After a road trip of more than 2,500 miles, up and down and back and forth across Britain, my daughter, granddaughter, and I spent a perfectly peaceful week at Chydane. The property is everything it's advertised to be: serene with breathtaking sea views, gorgeously decorated, and meticulously cared for.

The location is ideal for day trips throughout Cornwall. We went to the tip of the Lizard peninsula (the most southerly point in Britain), Land's End (the most westerly point in Britain), Penzance, St. Ives, and saw much of the Cornwall and Devon Mining Landscape (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). For good measure, we visited a stone circle (on the solstice) and enjoyed the Southwest Coast Path, which crosses the property.

The property is close enough to Helston that buying groceries and other supplies is easy, and yet you feel a million miles away. As we left, we said a loving good-bye to "our" house and beach, the pub (the Halzephron Inn), and the magical trees, birds, flowers, and hedgerows.

We wholeheartedly recommend this property to anyone looking for peace and quiet, and will absolutely be back next time we cross the pond.

What can I say!

  • 5 of 5

It is hard to improve upon the reviews that have already been submitted. Our two weeks at Chydane could not have been more perfect. Swimming, walking, kayaking, cycling, reading in the garden and peeking out of the porthole window to watch the surf and the stars in the middle of the night were just a few of our pleasures during our stay.

We all had our favourite moments: the boys spent hours skimming stones and climbing across the rocks at low tide to the hidden cove; my husband and I loved the walk across the cliffs to Porthleven to shop for fresh crab and lobster; and my mother (82) enjoyed sitting in her chair on the beach watching the world (you were right Trish, she did make it!)

The house lacks for nothing and really is as comfortable and warm as your own home. Even the wealth of board games meant that we continued to enjoy each others' company right up to bedtime.

And as for the scones and cake...

What wonderful holiday memories - thank you!

Stunning views, beautiful luxurious house

  • 5 of 5

An absolutely beautiful holiday home with stunning views, only a short (and I mean short, just down a slope and you're there) walk from the beach. It was glorious to fall asleep watching and hearing the sea from my bedroom window. Stunning surroundings of Cornish countryside and craggy, rocky moors. I read Jamaica Inn and watched Poldark whilst here, so it was very atmospheric when the storms came! We went on a few cliff top walks to little harbour towns, which were well worth visiting. We met the lovely housekeeping couple who went out of their way to make us welcome, even giving us a lift back from Mullion where we randomly bumped into them, having failed to call a taxi! The local pub became a favourite venue and we joined in the pub quiz (to disastrous results!) A thoroughly relaxing holiday enjoyed by us all (myself, pregnant twin and her husband, our parents) I recommend to all who want to escape for a while.

'Chydane' is a beautiful home in a stunning setting, with a beach just below. Inside, everything is to a high standard and it has all you could wish for to be comfortable. It is a little piece of 'Heaven'. I loved the luxury of being able to lie in bed and watch the sea! I enjoyed watching the waves rolling in and out and the colours and light changing depending on the time of day. The garden was just as perfect, a place to relax with many sheltered spots where you could sunbathe, read or just listen to the sounds, like the blackbird that sang its heart out every evening! For those who like to do a little more, we enjoyed the cliff top walks with their amazing views. Walking to the sunken church, 'The Church of the Storms', was well worth it. The pub up the road was only a few minutes walk away and they provided excellent food if you didn't feel like cooking. By car you could visit numerous places and we enjoyed nipping across to St Ives for the day. 'Chydane' provided everything you could wish for, whether as a family or couples. I would love to visit there again.

Owner's Response: That blackbird is a Cornish Chough! Choughs have been recorded as part of Cornish history since at least the 13th Century. Cornwall, and especially this part of Cornwall has such an incredibly interesting history. Shipwrecks, tin and gold mining, ancient settlements are just a few of the things that contribute to its wealth of interest. One could never tire of Cornwall!

The owner and staff are to be complimented on the wonderful property that has been made available to those who truly appreciate the ambiance that such a location and facility can afford. There is not a place on the property inside or outside where the views are anything less than spectacular. The coastal path which is literally at your door step takes you for scenic walks to numerous destinations icluding a short walk along the cliffs and beach to a town which has everything you could want.

The house (actually more like your own private resort) is furnished to the point of extravagance with not only such things as linens, like new kitchen ware, furnishings, and wonderful appliances but also every imaginable thing that you would want to enjoy time on the beach.

The Summer House was one of our favorite places to relax and enjoy the evening sunset close to the barbecue grill.

Those of you who enjoy reading will be pleased to know the house is well stocked with a wide variety of books. Two of the books on hand were written by a very interesting person, she actually lives next door and is quite an authority on the history of the Gunwalloe area and the county of Cornwall.

Not that I deserve to go there but if the standards are lowered and I do make it to heaven then a place with some of the characteristics of Chydane would be most welcome.

Owner's Response: We do try and provide a home from home. As many of our guests come with children, or from overseas, we thought it would be nice to arrive at the house to find refreshments, essential provisions, books, games, DVDs, toiletries, breakfast material for the first breakfast. We consider Chydane to be our home rather than a "holiday let", and as such we wanted all our home comforts around for us and our guests.

From the Owner

We saw the house about 12 years ago while walking along the coastal path and because of its truly stunning location it took our breathes away. Like many people before and after us, we dreamt of owning a home like this.We came back every year for afternoon tea and became friendly with the owners who assured us that they would only ever leave the house in a box! We are happy to report that they are alive and well and living a few miles down the coast! We still pinch ourselves as we often cannot believe that this particular dream did indeed come true! The Lizard Peninsular is steeped in history and with beautiful gardens and walks, museums, theatres, galleries, theme parks, maritime centres and wildlife reserves, there is something for everyone.
