L'Ecurie (2 bedrooms, sleeps 5)
L'Ecurie has a large and bright open-plan living room, dining room and kitchen with lovely countryside views. The kitchen is of a high-spec, with a dishwasher, fridge freezer and electric cooker with a gas hob. Upstairs are two bedrooms - a master bedroom with a king-sized bed and a second bedroom with a double bed and a single bed, plus room for cots in either room. The bathroom has a large shower and a heated towel rail. The gite is insulated for year-round lets, with a log fire burner and extra heating upstairs. The living room has two large sofas and a TV with English freeview channels and a DVD player. The outside dining area has views across the surrounding countryside. Cots, high chairs and stairgates can be provided.
Wi-fi is available. A laundry room is located opposite the gite with washing machine.
La Chaumière (formerly called La Grande) and L'Ecurie are at Gites Guebernez, a two-acre rural retreat with a shared heated pool and decked terrace with beautiful countryside views and an indoor games room. Made of local granite, the gites are typically Breton in style and have lots of rustic charm and wood fire burners - but also Wi-Fi.
* Guests can take advantage of a 20% discount with Brittany Ferries.
La Chaumière sleeps 6 in three bedrooms and has a large open plan living space and two bathrooms. It's ideal for a large family or two families sharing.
L'Ecurie sleeps 5 in two bedrooms and is perfect for couples or families with children. It was once a cattle shed and has been beautifully renovated with lots of character. The large open-plan kitchen, dining room and living room has wood beams and a restored oversized granite fire-place.
A third smaller gite, Le Pressoir, was once a cider press and sleeps 4 people with two bedrooms - a double and a twin. It is ideal for couples or families with older children (not toddlers).
New for summer 2016 is our largest gite, La Maison du Puits. It sleeps 8 people and has four or five bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a large living space. One bedroom is on the ground floor and can be used as a children's play room.
We have a 5-star rating on TripAdvisor and were awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for 2016. We were recently featured in The Guardian newspaper, which described Guebernez as 'a gorgeous spot – a cluster of mellow stone buildings with wooden shutters, amid rolling farmland and forest'.
All gites have outside seating areas with tables and chairs, parasols and barbecues. They share an overground pool, which is open from late May until early September and is heated to at least 25 degrees. It is surrounded by a large decked sun terrace, facing south, and has lovely views across rolling farmland and woodland. Our oversize sunbeds are perfect for relaxing and taking in the views.
Next to the pool is our indoor games room, with a pool table, table tennis, punch bag, WII console, fancy dress box, books and DVD library.
We are just a mile (10/15-minute walk) from the pretty village of Ploerdut, with a fantastic bakers, grocery shop selling local produce, a pizzeria/creperie, a hugely popular restaurant, two bars, a tennis court, and a small weekly market. The village restaurant, Chez Marie Thé, does a great value three-course lunch and unlimited wine for just €11.50 and is hugely popular with locals and visitors. It will give you a real taste of life in rural Brittany. A large InterMarche supermarket is a 10-minute drive away in the historic Medieval town of Guémené sur Scorff, which is also home to more restaurants, shops, bars and a cosy cinema. We can also recommend the honey made by our neighbours and the delicious bread baked weekly in the old village bread oven and sold at the Friday market.
Guebernez is the perfect spot for families, but outside of the school holidays it becomes a peaceful retreat for walkers, cyclists, writers and those who want to experience the tranquility of rural Brittany, but still be within easy reach of the coast and big towns. Owners, Bev and Warren, also run walking holidays for groups of 8 or more, exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside, the stunning Brittany coastline, the Nantes Brest canal, ancient chapels and Medieval market towns. In 2016, they also introduced walking photography holidays and walking yoga holidays, in the spring and autumn. See their website for more details (website is listed under facilities).
Bev can ecommend routes for jogging or cycling. Yoga, zumba, boxercise, massages and beauty treatments can also be arranged. The village tennis court is free and there's no need to book.
Guebernez is the perfect place for a special celebration. Guests are welcome to use the party barn and the owners can arrange everything from catering to bouncy castle hire.
Warren, a keen gardener, has a well-stocked vegetable garden and there's usually plenty to share with guests.
Children will love the swings and slide, the rope swing, ride-on tractors, the fancy dress box, puppet theatre (children can make their own puppets), skittles, football, volley ball, and other toys and games. Bev runs a fun weekly Treasure Hunt. New for 2016 is a little 'den', made by Freddie and his Dad.
There's plenty to do on site but also quiet spots for relaxation. Take a stroll up the lane to admire the views across the rolling fields and woodland or settle down with a book on the sun terrace.
Bikes can be hired nearby and, with hardly any traffic, the area is perfect for road cycling. There are also plenty of dedicated routes for mountain bikers too. For more gentle cycling, the Nantes-Brest canal and the River Blavet are close by.
Gites Guebernez is ideally located to explore some of Brittany's best-loved tourist locations. The ancient stones of Carnac, the walled coastal city of Concarneau, and the upmarket resort of Benodet are all around an hour's drive. So too is the beautiful town of Pont Aven, famous for its art galleries and Paul Gaugin museum, the elegant harbour city of Vannes, plus Auray, Quimper, Pontivy, and Josselin. The Lac de Guerledan, Brittany's largest lake, is a 30-minute drive away, while smaller lakes, with kayaks, pedalos, sailing, and beaches, are even closer. The lake at Priziac is just a 10-minute drive away and is perfect for children, with a small beach, pedalos, playground and a little café.

About Bev and Warren
We (Bev, Warren and our son Freddie) are originally from Brighton but had always talked about escaping the city and living the 'good life'. After spending many summers exploring France in our VW camper van, we decided on central Brittany, viewed countless properties, and fell in love with Guebernez. Alongside looking after the guests and Freddie, and the cats and chickens that we inherited with the house, we have both managed to continue our careers as a travel journalist (Bev) and an interiors/landscape photographer (Warren). Now in our seventh year, we have welcomed so many lovely people to Guebernez and have made some great friends. Freddie, now 7, has enjoyed having a stream of new playmates and, luckily, he's very good at sharing! We're looking forward to lots more fun in 2017.

Why Bev and Warren chose Le Faouet area
As soon as you come down our drive, you'll understand why we fell in love with Guebernez. In all, we probably viewed well over 150 properties before we found our dream Brittany home. As soon as we saw the cluster of charming rustic buildings and the beautiful setting and views, we knew we'd found the 'one'.
We came to stay here before we made an offer and loved the feel of the place. It met all the criteria - quiet and yet within walking distance to a village with a bakers, bar and restaurant, surrounded by countryside but still within easy reach of the beach.
The roads are so quiet and we've discovered so many stunning beaches, lakes and walks, but there's still lots more to explore.
The locals have been so welcoming and we have already made lots of friends, and when we want to go back to the UK and see family, it's an easy hop across the water.
What makes this cottage unique
Guests at Guebernez always comment on the lack of cars on the road, how easy it is to get around, the beautiful beaches and lakes, the lack of crowds, the great food, the ridiculously low price of eating out (€11.50 for a three-course lunch with wine), the fabulous Friday night pizzas, the friendliness of the locals, the choice at the local supermarket, the views from our pool terrace, the peace and quiet, and how they wish they'd booked another week. Many families come back again, often bringing friends and other family members with them.
Children love having the space and freedom to run around and make friends, and parents love having time to themselves. The gites have been approved by babyfriendlyboltholes, which means they are well equipped for infants, toddlers and young children. Stairgates, baby monitors, potties, change mats, bouncers and lots more can be provided to help parents travel more lightly. Bev and Warren even make sure children arrive to find age appropriate books in their bedrooms.
Guebernez really is a special place and the perfect base to explore this beautiful part of France.

We have stayed at Guebernez twice now, and both times we have absolutely loved the freedom we've been able to give our two kids in the safe rural environment. Together we've all picked apples, fed the chickens, collected veggies, played with fancy dress, swam in the pool, climbed trees, had a treasure hunt, picked blackberries, gone walking, eaten baguettes, visited the beach and cooked up a storm. What a relaxing way to spend a holiday. We'll be back!
I've stayed in many other gites over the years, but I'll definitely be coming back to Guebernez and L'Ecurie. It's just the right side of rustic… very comfortable and clean. The grounds are very well kept, too. Beverley and Warren's son Freddie made a great little friend for my daughter Betsy to play with, too. Nothing was too much trouble either, when I had to knock on their door with any kind of question. As a travel journalist, Beverley was only to happy to share her knowledge with us, too, about the local area and the rest of France. I'd highly recommend a visit!

Activity and Interests
The Lake at Priziac is just a 10-minute drive away. It's perfect for children, with a small sandy beach, play area, picnic tables and a cafe in the summer months. You can hire pedalos or rowing boats and go fishing. Other lakes with beaches are within 20 minutes drive. The largest, the Lac de Guerledan, has beaches and a choice of restaurants. Surrounded by forest, it's a popular spot for walking and cycling. Guebernez is also around 45 minutes from the stunning coastline of Morbihan, a mix of sweeping sandy beaches, rocky coves, inlets and islands. There's plenty of parking and no parking charges. Even in the height of the summer, the beaches don't get crowded.
A short walk from Guerbernez is the charming village of Ploerdut, which has an excellent bakers, corner shop, a creperie/pizzeria, two bars and a hugely popular restaurant, all set around a pretty church square. The family-owned restaurant, Chez Marie Thé, does a hearty three-course lunch and unlimited wine for just €11.50.
The nearest large supermarket is just a 10-minute drive in the Medieval town of Guemene sur Scorff, which also has restaurants, bars and boutiques. It's got a quaint little cinema too, often showing films in English.
The town of Pontivy, on the Nantes-Brest canal, is a 30-minute drive. So too is the Lac de Guerledan, Brittany's largest lake. The stunning sandy beaches of the Morbihan coast are a 45-minute drive and within one hour you can get to the tourist hotspots of Carnac, Concarneu, Pont Aven and Vannes.
St Malo is 2hrs by car, Roscoff 1hr 45, Caen 3hrs 30, Cherbourg 4hrs 20mins, Le Havre 4hrs 50mins. Brittany Ferries sails to these ports from Portsmouth, Poole, Weymouth, Plymouth and Cork. We can get you 20% off with Brittany Ferries. Condor Ferries sails from Poole/Weymouth to St Malo and from Portsmouth to Cherbourg. The closest airports are Quimper (1 hr), Brest (1hr 30 mins), Rennes (2hrs), Nantes (2hrs 20mins) and Dinard (2 hrs). Fly with BA, Flybe, easyJet and Ryanair.
Guebernez is surrounded by hiking and cycling trails to suit all abilities. If you don't want to venture too far from the gites, there are some lovely walks on our doorstep. Cycling is a French passion and this part of the country is well-equipped for cyclists, with clear roads for racing and voies vertes (nature trails) for mountain biking. Bring your own bicycle or we can arrange for bike hire.
Morbihan's year-round programme of festivals means there is always a party going on, whether it's a moules frites night in the local village or Lorient's renowned annual celtic music festival. One of Brittany's most spectacular events, Le Son et Lumiere, takes place over a fortnight in August at the Abbaye de Bon Repos, beside the nearby Lac de Guerledan. It's not to be missed.
