Sa Blava is, without doubt, the perfect base for a relaxing family holiday. Located between two of Catalonia’s most beautiful coastal villages, Llafranc (2.5km) and the pretty fishing village of Tamariu (2.75km). Set in enclosed grounds of over one acre with lawns and pine woods this south facing property enjoys delightful views across meadows and hillsides to the sparkling Mediterranean beyond. A large, private, Roman stepped swimming pool (9m X 4.5m) is conveniently positioned in the centre of the garden within full view of the upper terrace. Decorated in a light and airy style with contemporary furnishings Sa Blava comprises of one double bedroom, two twin bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen and an open plan living/dining area from where patio doors lead out to a spacious covered terrace. Internal stairs lead down to a comfortable poolroom replete with kitchenette, shower room & WC. Nearby Palafrugell (2km) has all amenities including a daily fruit and vegetable market.

Perfect relaxing family holiday

This villa is perfectly equipped and located for a superb family holiday. The villa is clean, stylish, comfortable and thoughtfully equipped with everything you need for a relaxing family holiday. For us the highlights were the beautiful and well maintained pool, the terrace with views down to the coast and the surrounding pine forest which smelt amazing as well as providing a useful bit of shade for little ones. The grass had suffered in some areas due to the hot weather.

The villa is easy to reach from Girona airport and the directions are very clear and helpful. It is perfectly situated to access the gorgeous beaches of Llafranc, Tamariu and Aiguablava.

The owner is very helpful and attentive to ensure you enjoy your stay in the villa. This is a very special place to stay and we would recommend it to family and friends and hope to be able to return one day ourselves.

A mixed bag for a holiday house

Having read the previous reviews and communicated with the owners we were very excited about our pending stay in Sa Blava. Upon arrival, we noted, as had others, that it was very well located with easy access to the local Costa Brava beaches, in particular Callela de Palafrugell, Llafranc and Tamariu. Unfortunately, we found the photos and previous reviews to be quite misleading in terms of the condition of the grounds: instead of being "beautifully maintained" as described by others and apparent in the photos, we found an arid scrubland with virtually no grass to speak of anywhere on the property. This led to a "mud management" policy we employed to try to limit the dirt tracked in and out of the pool and made us feel we would rather be elsewhere than on the grounds - really the first time we have felt this in many years of renting holiday houses in Europe. The house also has a significant ant problem which annoyingly meant no food could be left on any surface (inside or outside) for more than 30 seconds before ants appeared, which was fairly hard work for a "relaxing" holiday. While the interior was comfortable and as described, overall we couldn't help but feel this was a house that must have once been nice but had been left to deteriorate and needed additional work. We would also recommend the owners include more detailed and current photos of the house and grounds to ensure appropriate management of expectations.

Owner's Response: I thank Lucy P. for her comments. I’m afraid that this summer has been extremely dry with practically no rain. The garden does have a watering system but despite this I accept that the grass has suffered as a result. Ants are a constant problem in this part of the world particularly when the summer is very dry due to lack of rain. I know many owners who rent their properties in this area and they have all had the same problem. Yes, I agree that ants can be very annoying! This is the first year that I have had problems with ants and have been putting down a non toxic product as a deterrent. As can be seen from last year’s reviews, there was no mention of ants or dry lawns. This year has simply been very dry. I’m sorry for any inconvenience caused to Lucy. Carmen

The Extra Mile

We travelled a very long distance from the UK three girls, my wife and my mother in- law....the wait was well worth it. This is superbly well positioned Villa with more than adequate accommodation for 8. The pool was clean warm and set amongst a stunning Forest of Pine trees. I went for some personal walks in and around the hills....so quite and lovely. The accommodation was clean well presented in every way. We were warmly greeted and given the freedom to just get on with our holiday. Information about the surrounding area was well presented in their info pack. We felt lime we were back in South Africa....Wow.. Most notable is the honesty and kindness of Colin and Carmen who returned two hard drives I left behind safely and securely..these had over ten years of our family pictures and I can only express my deepest thanks.... My only suggestions would be as follows Get a nicely designed board on the main road to Tamariu ....say ' awesome Villa this way>>

Perfect location, very comfortable accommodation .

Sa Blava offers everything a family would want, lovely clean spacious accommodation with a good sized deep pool all to yourselves. The grounds of the property are beautifully maintained and the house is very comfortable and well equipped. You can easily spend a peaceful day in the garden or go to one of the close by beaches. Whilst there, we went on many walks that were well signposted and have spectacular scenery. Nearby resorts have lovely restraunts and the market at Palafrugell is great. Overall it's a great location and we had a wonderful holiday, we would love to return.

I love the house because it is located in a protected area of natural beauty, peaceful yet very close to the most beatiful beaches and coves in the region.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Barpub : Llafranc-Tamariu at 2.5 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Llafranc-Tamariu at 2.5 Kilometres Car: necessary

Special interest holidays:

The area is a walkers paradise and the property is located near one of many signposted walks. Info. & walking maps are supplied for clients at the property.

The area is also excellent for mountain bike enthusiasts. Bike hire can be arranged by the owner. Sea kayaks can be rented on Tamariu beach. Motor boats can be rented in both Llafranc & Tamariu. The are scuba diving clubs in Llafranc & Tamariu.

Coast/Beach:

Both Llafranc & Tamariu beaches are approx. 2.5km from the property and have fine sand and shelve gently making them suitable for children. Close to Tamariu there are a number of rocky inlets & cove that are excellent for snorkelling.

The renowned beauty spot of Aiguablava is a 20 minute drive away.

Travel:

Nearest airport is Girona Airport (Ryanair) & is approx. 45 minutes drive away. Barcelona airport (Ryanair, easyjet etc.) is withing a 2 hour's drive.

Car hire can be arranged by the owner.

Distances:

Llafranc 2.5km; Tamariu 2.75km; Palafrugell 2km; Begur 9km; Girona (wonderful medieval quarter) 47km; Figueres (home to world famous Dalí museum) 59km; Pals (delighful medieval stone village 9km; Barcelona (a great day out) 125km

Further Details:

Nearby Sant Sebastià lighthouse offers spectacular views. Botanical gardens of Cap Roig, Calella de Palafrugell are sheer delight, in July & August the Music Festival of Cap Roig is held with world class singers from around the world performing there. Palafrugell Sunday market is a must. Beautiful inland medieval stone villages such as Pals, Peratallada and Ullastret are all withing a 20 minute car journey and well worth visiting. Palamós fish market is fascinating (boats come into harbour between 4pm & 7pm-Mon to Frid.)
