Villa in Elie, Nr. St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland - Fall Out Of Bed And On To The Beach

Recently renovated, this 19th century house retains all of its traditional character including working shutters, original fireplace, stunning stone staircase, brand new sash and cash windows to the front of the house, stripped internal wood doors and original bay window. Modernised to a very high standard and furnished with contemporary, high- quality furniture, mixed with antiques from Asia and original art from around the world and local artists. Slate floors from Fired Earth, carpets from Crucial Trading, Farrow and Ball neutral colours, white glossy wooden floors throughout, cow hide rugs and recently renovated white bathrooms and modern kitchen. There are uninterrupted views from the front of the house over Elie beach and views over the large private garden and recently restored orchard at the rear. The garden is walled and extends right the way to Bank Street where the garage and rear gate access is situated.

The house is situated in the heart of Elie at the end of South Street at the beach. Parking is free and right in front of the house or at the rear entrance on Bank Street in front of the garage.

The house is extremely well equipped. Highlights include chairs for the garden, an indoor/outdoor full size tennis table, a piano, brand new Dualit appliances in the kitchen, original art throughout, .... The list goes on!

PRICING is 2300 for a week in Summer

1800 in LOW SEASON

900 for a short break ( MIN THREE NIGHTs) over a weekend in OFF- PEAK season only.

About Kirsty dougan

We are a British family of four, Kirsty and Patric, Riley aged fifteen and Tess aged eleven. We moved to Shanghai in 2003 where we spent five years until 2008 and we now live in Hong Kong. We are both ex-lawyers, still in the corporate world in Asia, but like all of us, crave an easier way of life! Patric spent most childhood holidays in Elie with his parents, who now visit their grandchildren on the same beach thirty five years later. One day we may live in Elie permanently but for now, we are keen to share The Sand House with others and contribute to the local economy in the village.

Why Kirsty dougan chose Elie

We bought The Sand House early 2012 and spent several months breathing life into it. It was in a very sorry state and had taken a hammering from the North Sea winds. When we first got the keys, there were 3 inches of sand across the entire ground floor. That was my inspiration for the new house name! The "garden" was also a sea of mud and has taken two years to put right.

Best features? The magnificent sea views, the light that floods the house in all weather, the roar of the waves (when it's stormy) which you can hear from inside and having the beach five steps from the front door which makes the location unbeatable. We love that we can see the kids on the sand from the lounge and call them in for dinner. Time has stood still in this part of the world and it is very safe for children.

What makes this house unique

You really can't beat the location of this house in Elie. Seconds from the award winning blue flag beach, stunning sea views and minutes to all local conveniences, (including pubs) and golf courses all on foot.

We offer a mid-stay clean and bed change (at extra cost) for those who stay longer than a week.

We want to make this a true 'drop your bags and flop' holiday and we like to ensure the house is fully stocked in terms of tea, coffee, condiments, washing powder, dishwasher powder, toilet rolls, fluffy towels galore, DVDs for adults and kids, tons of books, childrens' toys, adult and kids bikes, golf clubs, kids fishing nets and wet suits, travel cots, and highchair. If you need anything extra, please just ask.

Notes on accommodation: The Sand House is a strictly no shoe house due to the proximity of the sandy beach. Please remove all outdoor shoes in the front hallway. You will find yourself sleeping in sand otherwise. There are also white wood floorboards throughout the house and Crucial Trading carpets and we want to keep the house a high-end. * I don't take bookings for groups larger than the advertised 11 or hen or stag parties. Min charge for short breaks and 7 nights at Peak times ( please email to discuss). Outside: Huge private garden with a recently reinstated orchard, (rare in Elie), with comfortable outdoor seating (in summer months), but who needs the garden when you have the beach on your doorstep! Plums and apples when in season. Access to Bank Street from rear gate. Bikes stored in rear garage. Bins are stored out of sight at the back of the garden beside the garage on Bank Street. NO BBPBB Elie beach is accessed at the front of the house. The Sand House is positioned right at the very end of South Street beside the ramp leading on to the beach. We also own a little section at the sea wall opposite the house where we often put out chairs or beanbags. Utility Room: Washing machine, separate dryer, extra small fridge Iron and ironing board, wine fridge in the games room. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Ample white fluffy towels and quality white linen included. Price includes an end-of-stay clean. If mid-stay clean required, this can be arranged at additional cost. Requests for extra linen mid-stay will incur additional charges. **NO BBQ as impossible to keep clean Other: Large games room with piano, football table, toys for young kids. Accessed from the kitchen and separate entrance from garden. Flat screen TV. Large table tennis table for indoor/outdoor us

Totally amazing home!

Kirsty's home is totally amazing! If only we could bottle the view & relaxation you feel from the main sitting room to have taken back home! We were having a large family gathering to celebrate big birthdays, anniversaries & a graduation, so all ages! The house just made these celebrations extra special & the happy memories we will take with us all. So much to say! House, facilities, it's setting & gardens all just brilliant! Can't wait to return to this stunning home & to Elie which we just adore! Who needs to go abroad when places like this exist!

Beachside Perfection

Great base to entertain our 3 year old and guests. Location unbeatable and the house is perfect. Cellar restaurant in Anstruther highly recommended and Ship Inn was good too. Back next year for family birthday and looking forward to it already.

Our favourite place to visit!

This was our 4th visit and our 1st New Year stay. There are 8 of us; 4 adults and our 4 girls ranging from 17 - 21 and they, like us, love staying here and enjoy being by the coast. The house is absolutely wonderful, spacious, very well equipped and so tastefully decorated. The view of the beach is spectacular and every morning when we look out of the window it takes our breath away. Even in the winter we had such a lovely time with walks on the beach and along the coastal footpath to the next village and then returning back to the house and the lovely log fire.......perfect.

There is so much to do here and the surrounding area is beautiful............and the walk to the pub along the beach is an added bonus. In the Summer we love doing some of the water sports and also enjoy watching all the activities from the house. Thank you to the housekeeper for always making everything so spotless and perfect and to Kirsty for letting us come back every year to enjoy your beautiful home..

The award-winning famous Elie beach is outside your front door, distance is about a 6 second walk! Most mornings, if there has been a bit of wind from the North Sea, you'll be sweeping the sand off the front step!


Elie is just under an hours drive from Edinburgh airport. Or thirty minutes from Dundee (flights from LondonCity). Glasgow is about ninety minutes drive. Leuchars is the nearest train station in St Andrews (about 20 mins away) and we can arrange local taxi pick up for you if you give us notice.

A car is recommended to explore the fishing villages along the coast, but is not essential to enjoy a family holiday in Elie, in fact we bike everywhere in the village and try to avoid using a car.


Less than five minutes walk to newsagents, cafes, Elie deli. Less than ten minute walk to the local pubs, eg Ship Inn, Golf Tavern (or "19th hole"), The Pavilion sports centre and Golf course and a mere 5 yards from the front door of the house to the award-winning sandy beach.

The award- winning Ardross Farm shop is close by (1 mile) for fresh fruit and vegetables, artisan meats and spirits too.

Further Details:

Time has stood still in Elie and it hasn't changed in decades. This is part of its charm. Everything you need for a wonderful family holiday is right on your doorstep and you don't really need to use the car. Large supermarkets are 15 minutes away (by car) in St Andrews ( Morrisons) or Anstruther (Co-op), a wonderful farm shop, Ardross, ( UK farm shop of the year 2013) is a mile or so away on foot or 5 mins in the car and there are pubs, newsagents, and ice-cream shops within walking distance of your front door although some are closed during winter months. There is an ATM on Bank Street which can be accessed from the back garden.

The grounds of Elie House are wonderful for walks and are about 12-15 mins walk from the heart of the village.
