About the Owner

We both have very demanding jobs, David in IT and Charlotte with the CAB. We first came out to the cottage for a week in May 1981 which was a 10th Wedding Anniversary present to us - the first holiday we had had without our children. We were fairly broke, but loved it so much we swore we would save like mad to bring the children with us for a summer holiday as soon as we could afford it. We managed that three years later and had a wonderful holiday. After that it was simply a priority that we had to rent the cottage every summer we possibly could and we only missed one. The original cottage was built by our neighbours in 1971. When they decided they wanted to sell they offered it to us and we jumped at the chance to buy it for ourselves.

Lovely quiet spot, and great comfort

  • 5 of 5

The house was a delight to stay in, and we greatly enjoyed our time. With cloudless skies every day but one, in late September the pool was warm enough to enjoy swimming for long stretches.

The house is large and the best equipped we have ever been to. Wifi worked perfectly. With just two of us there we were in great comfort. Unusually the lighting allows one to read everywhere. There doesn't seem to be a television, which is a blessing.

Great location

  • 5 of 5

This is a great base for a family holiday. The cottage is well equipped and comfortable. There was plenty of space for a family of 5. We found the location was excellent as all the main castles, places of interest and activities were within easy reach. It was ideally situated for a cultural visit in the morning and the afternoon spent playing in the pool. There are also plenty of places to eat out at in the evening within 10 mins drive.

I would thoroughly recommend this for a relaxing and memorable holiday.

A really enjoyable week

  • 5 of 5

Although the weather could have been drier and warmer we still really enjoyed the week, some of it spent in the pool and some of it visiting the nearby attractions. We particularly enjoyed our trips to Bergerac, Sarlat and the area around and above Les Eyzies. There are lots of lovely chateaux and villages to see. The holiday cottage was very clean and well equipped and gave plenty of privacy in the garden and pool area. Thank you Charlotte for the surprise bottle of wine and for letting us stay in your lovely house.

A Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful find this was. Our family of 4 (2 x adults & 2 x children) had a fantastic 3 week holiday exploring the Dordogne.

The house is in a great location allowing easy access by car in all directions to the various sights/activities in the area;- Chateaus, Caves, Markets, Shopping, Restaurants, Kayaking, Tree Trekking etc........ more than enough to keep our 12 & 10 year olds, active and interested for the whole holiday.

Returning in the hot afternoons, the inviting and good size swimming pool would keep the children busy for hours & the view across the valley is so peaceful & serene as you eat al fresco.

The house is clean, well looked after & equipped to a level you do not normally find when hiring a holiday home. The owners have thoughtfully provided well in excess of necessary cooking utensils, wine glasses, plates etc..... As we were there for 3 weeks, this was handy, as we did buy food at the markets and do quite a bit of cooking (which we enjoy). Great open plan kitchen/living area & a super Master Bedroom (room with a view).

The Owners are very organised & friendly & the whole process from initial booking through to the end of the holiday was seamless. In fact, we had such a wonderful holiday that we fully expect to return again in the future.

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a lovely review. We are delighted that clients enjoy the cottage as much as we do and have a fantastic holiday. We spend a lot of time there and like to feel clients are staying in our second home and should enjoy the same level of convenience and comfort that we want. We hope to see you again sometime.

Location

From the Owner

L'Emerillon is the most beautifully relaxing place we know and where we unwind instantly. After we bought the cottage in 1996, we put in the wonderful large heated pool and then built on the large third bedroom and proper bathroom. Apart from the wonderful view, often with deer in the valley , the cottage is brilliantly located; tucked away in a hidden valley, but not isolated. Meyrals is only 1 Km away, with bars, boulangerie, weekly produce market etc. St. Cyprien is 3.5 km which, while having the best weekly market in the area, is also very pretty and has all the necessary shops, Carrefour, Doctors, Dentists etc. We also love eating out and have many of the best restaurants in the area close by

Facilities

From the Owner

On a hot day the large shaded terrace always seems to attract a cooling breeze and keeps the rest of the house shady and cool. In cooler weather the open part of the terrace is a real sun trap and a sheltered corner for a sunny breakfast and lunch. The layout of the house means that there is ample scope to be sociable, but also there are lots of different areas for a bit of peace - quite useful with the grandchildren from time to time! We entertain a lot and I really enjoy cooking, so the kitchen is very well equipped with enough cutlery and china to cater for 12, so you can fill the dishwasher and not have to look around for a clean cup while it's washing!

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Clients have described our cottage as the best equipped they have ever rented. It is our second home and not simply a rental house. We provide all the essentials such as rubbish bags, washing up liquid and kitchen basics so our clients don't have to worry about them and have made sure there is enough china and glasses so you don't keep having to wash up between loads in the dishwasher. We like being comfortable and expect our clients to enjoy it too. Now we have grandchildren we have tried to make it as child friendly as possible, though care is needed as the floors are mostly stone! Outside: There are roughly half an acre of grounds, mainly wild flower meadow, but the space round the cottage is mown regularly. The pool is a superb 11mx5m heated, fenced and private, with a paved surround, there is also an internal light for night time bathing. We have sunloungers, a parasol and other garden furniture for the use of guests. We have a very large terrace with a sunny area for cooler days and a very large shady space for hotter ones where there is space for sitting and a separate outside dining table and chairs for al fresco dining. As we are on the side of the valley there is nearly always a bit of a breeze which makes hot weather a lot more comfortable. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: You can bring your own linen or we can provide it for a small cost. We can arrange maid service if required. We provide a good travel cot, high chair and booster seat if required, together with small cutlery, plastic bowls and mugs for small ones. Other: All three bedrooms are bright and airy, with comfortable beds and good bedside lights for reading. Lots of hanging and storage space. Travel cot and high chair available.
