Farmhouse in Cariatiz, Sorbas, Nr. Mojacar. Almeria, Spain - Peaceful Location Set In Andalusia's Beautiful Countryside

Casa Maravilla enjoys panoramic views whilst being surrounded by olive, almond and pomegranate trees. Open plan living area accommodates kitchen, dining area and lounge. Two double bedrooms and the family bathroom are located upstairs, the Master bedroom having en-suit facilities. Through patio doors both bedrooms open to first floor terrace where you can either soak up the sun or simply soak up the fantastic views over the mountains. Our charming courtyard garden has shaded dining area, built in barbecue and grill, dip pool and shower. Excellent walks into the surrounding hills on your doorstep.

About Gail Whitwell

My husband and I have lived here in Spain for the past 12 years. Buying our farmhouse just over 10years have spent our time restoring it to its present standard. Both now retired we feel our choice in location is perfect. Beautiful surrounding countryside, peaceful yet not too remote and of course the fabulous Mediterranean within easy reach. An estimated 318 days of sunshine here helps to make life pretty good! During rentals we will be living on site (next door). Whilst totally respecting your privacy, we can offer as little or as much help and advise as required.

Notes on accommodation: Mosquito nets are fitted to all windows. Upright fans are provided as needed. Woodburner for use during the cooler months. The property is suitable for children although we ask supervision is given around the pool area and upstairs terrace. Outside: The front aspect of the property has parking area and seating with open views over the almond and olive trees towards the Sierra Cabrera Mountains. The crazy paved area to the rear of the house leads to a shaded dining patio equipped with table and chairs. Adjacent is a pretty courtyard garden with built in barbecue and grill. Sunbeds are provided for use beside your 4x5 dip pool and outdoor shower. Access by stairs to 1st floor terrace where adjacent to both bedrooms comfy seating can be found under shade, alongside which is an unshaded sunbathing area. From here, the backdrop of the beautiful Sierra de las Filabres is truly a tonic. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property is cleaned and prepared before and after each rental. All towels and linen are changed weekly, although there are plenty on request. Poolside towels are also provided. Other: The washing machine and drying area are located on the 1st floor terrace.

A superb restored Cortijo, comfortable inside, great outside space, plunge pool and mountain views

Owners, Gail and Gren, are a warm, welcoming, friendly, hospitable couple who will do whatever they can to make your stay pleasant and enjoyable. The cortijo is gorgeous and has been thoughtfully restored with terrific attention to detail and many original features retained. There are numerous outside seating areas offering either shade or sun throughout the day, as well as a lovely, refreshing plunge pool with a further sunbathing area alongside. There are great views all round to the mountains and some wonderful walks nearby, plus countless whitewashed villages tucked away up in the hills.

The local village has two bars (Spanish guitar playing last night in one of them). The other bar is a traditional Spanish Tapas Bar with welcoming staff who also run a small shop selling wine, beer, bread, milk, chorizo sausages, pork from their own pigs and a wide range of other essentials.

The beaches of Mojacar and neighbouring resorts are a 30 minute drive from the property on uncrowded roads.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and would definitely revisit. Looking through the guest comments book, it is evident that Gail and Gren receive many repeat visitors and we can fully understand why. For those looking for an authentic Spanish holiday in the real Spain, staying in accommodation that is comfortable and full of character, but still only short drive from beautiful beaches, we can absolutely, highly recommend this restored farmhouse.

It is rightly popular, so I'd book it while you have the chance!

Very clean and tidy in a lovely rustic setting with owners that made us feel welcomed.

Had a lovely time and were able in have out door bbq’s in mid October. The out door facilities were great and the plunge pool is rather large. The interior of the farm house has been kept with rustic charm but with all the mod cons that you might need. The fact that the owners welcome dogs was a great plus point for us as they were safe and secure in the court garden.

The farmhouse is in a hamlet with the village within walking distance. There are two bars/ restaurants and a shop (with in the restaurant) in the village and can cater for most general needs. This area is the real Spain with exceptionally friendly locals.

We have a really great time and it wasn’t long enough. We are already planning for next year.

Lovely restored farmhouse with great character and space, situated in remote and quiet village. Lovely outdoor area with plunge pool and upstairs terrace overlooking backdrop of rugged mountain views. Very clean, nicely decorated and well equipped. Owners were extremely helpful and accommodating and made the accommodation feel home from home. They provided great directions and recommendations on places to visit. Car essential but worth the effort for such a jewel in a desert place. Would love to return some time!

Within a 25 minute scenic drive, Mojacar Playa offers miles of unspoilt sandy beaches, many superb beach bars offering local cuisine with locally caught fish being a speciality.

Boat excursions can be taken from the fishing port of Garrucha which, along side a sandy beach a new Marina has been built.

A Naturist beach can be found can be found at Vera Playa. Whilst a stunning drive south along the coast will take you to the famous and fabulous National Park of Cabo de Gata.


Car hire is essential. Motorway links too and from all airports are excellent.

Almeria Airport is approx 45 mins drive.

Murcia Airport is approx 90 mins.

Alicante Airport is approx 2hrs.

Directions can be given on request.


The centre of the village is about a 10 min walk. The coastal towns of Mojacar and Garrucha are about 25 mins drive. Slightly inland, Turre and Vera are about 15 and 20 mins drive. Sorbas, again inland, about 10 mins by car.

The circuit de Almeria is only a 20min drive from the property.

Further Details:

Fresh bread and most essentials can be purchased from the village shop. In addition to this, a bread van stops outside the property each morning. 3 Bars all serving good basic snacks can also be found in the village, one operates a public swimming pool during the summer months. Banks, cashpoints, good restaurants and larger supermarkets can be found in all the towns mentioned above. Most surrounding towns also hold a weekly open air market.

Take a spectacular guided tour of the "Caves" in nearby Sorbas, or browse the traditional pottery workshops in the town. A further 30 min drive passing the "Circuit de Almeria" will bring you to "Oasys" The Mini Hollywood theme park and Zoo. Set in the desert landscape of Tabernas, this film set was used in many famous spaghetti westerns. Granada and the magnificent Alhambra Palace is a 2hr motorway drive away.
