About Gail Whitwell

My husband and I have lived here in Spain for the past 12 years. Buying our farmhouse just over 10years have spent our time restoring it to its present standard. Both now retired we feel our choice in location is perfect. Beautiful surrounding countryside, peaceful yet not too remote and of course the fabulous Mediterranean within easy reach. An estimated 318 days of sunshine here helps to make life pretty good! During rentals we will be living on site (next door). Whilst totally respecting your privacy, we can offer as little or as much help and advise as required.

Gail Whitwell purchased this farmhouse in 2006

A lovely place to stay. Great hosts, very helpful. Loved the plunge pool and the lemon tree. Plenty places to sit in sun and shade. The property was very clean and very well maintained. Home from home. We felt very comfortable there. Would recommend to anyone. We will be back. Thank you Gail and Gren.

Perfect countryside retreat

  • 5 of 5

The other reviews are right - this is a gem of a place to stay, up there with the best we've had on OD. Almería airport is small and unhurried with easy roads in and out. The 40 minute drive is easy (car essential, though). The owners are warm and friendly, yet utterly sensitive to the renters' privacy. This beautifully furnished coverted farmhouse is very comfortable with lots of places to hide away inside or outside or to seek sun/shade. The village is away from it all, quiet and calm, yet close enough to walk to a reasonable shop and bar. There are lovely walks from the doorstep (try going up the Rambla from Los Martínez to El Chive). It's a short drive to the motorway/main roads and 20 minutes brings you to a great selection of stunning coastal landscape, much of it unaffected by the tourist sprawl that has overtaken much of the Costa del Sol. The Sierras on the doorstep offer great walks and drives. We loved the flora and fauna, the great food, the Karst landscape of the Sorbas Basin and the Tabernas desert. If you're not claustrophobic, the Cuevas de Sorbas are an interesting guided scramble and the restaurant there is exceptional for value and quality. We were really sorry to leave. Thank you to the owners for all their suggestions and kindness. A real gem!

The Best Yet

  • 5 of 5

We have visited this area now on the last three years and without a doubt this has been our best holiday to date. The cottage was exceptional and our hosts Gail and Gren were the loveliest people you would wish to meet as we had some lovely chats and they were there when we needed them. The cottage was extremely well equipped and the furnishings were of a high standard. The outside space was well planned and had everything you wanted from sun beds ,outside dining facilities and a splash pool to shaded areas where you could relax the day away. Knowing the area was fine for us ,but we still discovered places we had not been to before. We would thoroughly recommend this location to any body,so much so we are going again next June.

A lovely hidden gem!!

  • 5 of 5

Karen and I stayed here in the summer of 2012 for two weeks, we were the first guests Gail and Gren had welcomed to their lovely house.

To say it's a wonderful place to spend your holiday is an understatement.

Very stunning surroundings, lovely village location and a warming welcoming couple to greet you upon arrival.

We were in touch soon after our return home in 2012 to book another holiday for 2013, this time for three weeks and have done the same for 2014!!

We like this place so much we are seriously contemplating moving permanently to the village upon our retirement.

If you've never been to this area before you should seriously consider Gail and Gren's house as it's an ideal place to stay.

Please leave the last two weeks in June and the first week in July free for Karen and Eddie!!
