Traditional Cotswold House In Village Location At Top Of Toadsmoor Valley

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Peacefully Situated By Small Village Green

Lyncroft dates from the eighteenth century. It consists largely of three limestone cottages that were amalgamated many years ago. Everyone who comes here seems to love it. We live in an area which is good to look at, excellent for walking and geographically central. Everything feels mellow and peaceful.

We do not take bookings for more than one month duration.

The house has three bedrooms, kitchen, utility, two bathrooms, two reception rooms and playroom, as well as a garden which people usually call 'beautiful'. Not far away is a park with a playground which is fine for children and dogs to exercise in.

South Gloucestershire provides just about every type of walking imaginable in this country, save for mountains. The countryside is glorious to discover, whilst an advantage is that you can go on circular walks straight out of the front door.

The nearest pub/restaurant, the Ram is about five hundred metres away, whilst it takes fifteen to twenty minutes to walk to either 'The Lamb' or 'The Old Neighbourhood'. Within say half an hour's drive there is a plethora of other hostelries and eating places to try in such places as Cirencester, Cheltenham Tetbury and the surrounding countryside.

We are centrally located for car access to Bath, Bristol, Slimbridge, Stratford upon Avon, Oxford and all the Cotswold Villages.

About Meg and Rob Powell

We are Meg and Rob Powell, still wondering why we ever delayed moving to this loveliest neck of the woods.

Meg and Rob Powell purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Meg and Rob Powell chose Cotswold district

It has always felt so right. It took a while to get everything shipshape but the results of our work, it seems, have added to what were already a beautiful house and garden. The description ' beautiful' or 'lovely' is one which not just we but nearly everybody who comes here uses to describe the property. However often we sit in the garden with a drink in the evening, every occasion when we do it makes us feel a bit privileged.

What makes this cottage unique

We can also eulogise about the countryside which surrounds us.. Our part of the Cotswolds is not filled by crowds. Just as in other parts of the county, there are plenty of good cafes and pubs, But car parks here seldom overflow.

South Gloucestershire has so many valleys and hills which, along with riversides and canals, provide a rich and varied combinations of walking terrains. Whilst so many walks require short car rides to reach their starting points, one advantage of Lyncroft is that all you need do is to open the front door and set off from here.

Although so much enjoyment can be obtained from exploring the countryside on two feet, four wheels can quickly take you to a wide range of attractions. Children can go to the Cotswold Water Park for swimming, Adam Henson's and the Roves Farm Parks, the Matthew and the Great Britain in Bristol Harbour, the steam railway at Winchcombe, castles at Berkeley and Goodrich. Lovers of history will be able to visit Oxford, Gloucester and Wells Cathedrals, the superb Jacobean house of Chastleton, the many medieval churches. And easy on the eye for everybody will be the architecture of the Gloucestershire countryside. Our favourites are Chipping Campden and the villages of Eastern Turville and Stanton.

And what does one need after a day out ? The nearest pub, the Ram, is five to ten minutes walk away. Other pubs such as the Kings Head at France Lynch, the Lamb at Eastcombe, the Butchers Arms at Oakridge, the Old Neighbourhood at Chalford Hill and the Bear at Bisley are all less than ten minutes drive away. Restaurants? Try the Egypt Mill or the Wild Garlic or the Oldstone, all at Nailsworth. Just a cake and coffee? The Lavender Bakehouse at Chalford Vale, Mills Café at Stroud and The Kitchen at Minchinhampton are worth a visit.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Kate Campbell said : ' We could not have wished for a more delightful and comfortable house and location. The house is gorgeous - our children cherished what they called ' the cubby house room ' - full of toys ! The restoration/renovations of the property have been very professionally completed - giving the house a cosy feel. A fully equipped kitchen, facilities, bathroom and outdoor garden made our stay very comfortable. The area surrounding Bussage is full of a lot of thriving local produce which is worth exploring and tasting. Your house made our holiday in England comfortable, enjoyable and memorable.

Lucy Hampshire said : 'We appreciated all the creature comforts. The cottage was beautiful and in a lovely location. We had a nice relaxing time and the children really enjoyed all the toys in the playroom.

Julia Batavia said : 'We had a wonderful stay and all thought the cottage was beautiful. I must add that we lacked no amenities and the location was wonderful.'

Lovely stay in the heart of the cotswolds

  • 4 of 5

We had a great week in this comfortable and charming house. The house is situated within a village with a number of houses nearby. There is a pub within easy walking distance with okay food. The house is comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. It is a charming property. My only caution is for tall people - my father is 6'4'' and spent the week bumping his head on doorframe. My husband at 6' seemed to have no problems. Meg and Rob made the process of booking and our stay easy. Many Thanks for a great weeks holiday.
