About the Owner
We moved to Le Manoir du Forestier in 2007 after our decision to change our lives to escape the rat-race and stress we had experienced through our numerous businesses in the UK. We have a keen interest in history, art and antiques and we love the natural world and the abundant wildlife and plants that we are lucky enough to find on our doorstep. Le Forestier is a unique property and retains much of its original character and features such at original hand made wallpaper from 1907. The gardens and land also offer a diverse habitat for many animals and we do every thing we can to preserve this by operating eco-friendly land management. Not a lot changes here, which is more than can be said for the world around us.

"lovely, quiet house with large pool"
We had a wonderful week in this lovely house. Beautiful garden where the boys could play soccer and badminton, large pool and a lot of space, ideal for reading a book in peace and quiet. There is a lot to do in the environment of the manor but we stayed mostly at the house. The hospitality of our hosts was great. Again thank you for the nice week.

Away from it all
We stayed for a week with our two kids who spent virtually all their time in the lovely pool. The setting is beautiful. We spent many evenings sitting at the stone table with a bottle of wine. The house is quaint and beautifully furnished. The stairs are a bit steep so perhaps not for the elderly. The kids enjoyed the garden and Suzanne couldn't have been more helpful, even picking up a birthday cake for my husband and leaving it in the fridge for our arrival. We appreciated the welcome pack and the croissants each morning. The house, setting and owners are lovely. The cottage is attached to the owners property but the owners are very discrete. You will need a car to get to the village but if you are after peace and tranquility then this is a lovely place.
A Really Lovely Place to Stay
This is a charming property and Sue and Barney do their best to make you feel welcome. Its in a very quiet location with large grounds and a good sized pool. The cottage itself is very comfortable and very nicely decorated. There is a real sense of history about it. There are plenty of places to eat within easy reach to suit a variety of budgets. Its on our list to return to.
Can't fault it...
Spent a family week here, soon settled in and enjoying the relaxed environment over a complementary bottle of red and baguette after a grueling non-stop drive from Manchester.
Sue and Barney are the perfect hosts, attentive and supportive and yet non-invasive and respectful of privacy. Le Forestier is well situated in the middle of nowhere, a 'nowhere' that also happens to have the picturesque and locally-typical village of Javerlhac within 20 minutes' walk (or five-minute drive), offering a couple of bars, a decent local restaurant and a small supermarket. And the baguettes, croissants and pains-au-chocolate that are provided free-of-charge every morning are glorious.
Plenty to do in the environs, with Brantome and Oradour-sur-Glane being especially appreciated / respected / enjoyed by the family (for very different reasons).
The cottage offered a superb and secluded respite, and many late mornings (with dinner out) and late afternoons (with lunch out) were taken, the pool and terrace being obvious foci of attention, but the huge grassed gardens too with their massive appeal for the boys and their 'boules' and adventuring.
Great week away, couldn't fault it, go do it...
We have recently returned from our stay at this lovely cottage. We were looking for somewhere to get away from our hectic working lives and this was just the ticket. The cottage itself has been beautifully and lovingly restored by the owners. It makes a great base for exploring the surrounding area, however the cottage is so homely you may just want to stay around it and make the most of the peaceful environment there. The pool area is delightful and there are many other outside areas where you can just sit and chill, day and night. We received a warm welcome from the owners when we arrived and they could not have been more friendly or helpful throughout our stay. If you want to know about the history of the property, areas of interest to visit, nearby restaurants or have any other queries or questions they are always happy and keen to help. The nearby village is quiet but has all the amenities you need. We loved our stay and have recommended to our family and friends. We will be returning in the very near future.
From the Owner
“We moved here to the Perigord Vert as the area seemed ideal being unspoilt and generally enjoying fine sunny weather. We also love the 'proper' seasons. After nearly two years of searching we found Le Manoir du Forestier, a very pretty and historic manor house with landscaped gardens and overlooking 20 acres of its own land and forest. It is very tranquil and yet within easy access of all modern amenities. We have spent two years restoring the ancient guardians house so that guests may also enjoy this wonderful location and savour the special qualities of this wonderful place.”
