Bryony Cottage Sleeps 2 (1 Bedroom)
Bryony Cottage has one bedroom with direct access to the deck and feature picture windows with blinds operable from the bed - so you can check the state of the weather before getting out of bed!
Bathroom is adjacent to the bedroom and has a bath and power shower.
Open plan living space includes fitted kitchen with dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, oven, hob and extractor. Dining table and chairs. Lounge area with wood burning stove (logs provided), TV and ipod dock, books and comfy chairs. Looks out onto the deck through French windows.
Deck is secluded, west-facing, a sun-trap. Looks across fields and often spectacular sunsets.
We are a small farm, now non-working except for a few chickens, four sheep and our friendly dog Meg. The two cottages, Rose and Bryony, were converted in 2011 from former cowsheds by the architect Nigel Stock, and are furnished with furniture from Mark Product - our expanding high end furniture business. The design is contemporary with wooden floors and fresh colours. All amenities are new and to a high standard. The cottages are all on one level with views across fields and each has a private west-facing deck with seating and barbecue. You are free to roam over our eight acres with a stunning view from the top taking in the span of Cornwall from north to south coasts.
Flexiblity in accommodation is available for larger family or friends group as we have an adjoining door that will enable you to access both cottages.
For children we have a field with a swing and trampoline sunk into the ground, treehouse and lots of space to explore and make dens. We are also close to many of Cornwall's finest beaches on the north, south and west coasts. The towns of Falmouth, Truro and Penryn are all close by. A perfect base for a Cornwall holiday.

About Kathryn Miller
We are John and Kathryn Miller, we have 3 children, Rosie, Eve and Charlie.
We moved to Higher Lidgey in 2005 from east London. It had been in the same family for many years. Kathryn runs her own HR Development business and works for Falmouth University. John is a director of furniture company MARK Product. We are a typically busy family!
Kathryn Miller purchased this cottage in 2005
Why Kathryn Miller chose Cornwall
What we loved about this property was its seclusion whilst still being very accessible. It is a proper rural area - the real Cornwall, not a tourist honeypot. However it is so close to beaches, amazing walks and in between the towns of Truro and Falmouth.
What makes this cottage unique
Because the owners are on-site the properties are very well looked after and we are available if there are any problems. We also make sure the cottages are warm and cosy and there is fresh milk, flowers and wine for you when you arrive.
In spite of this convenience, most visitors won't see anything of us while you are here as the cottages have independent access and face away from our farmhouse.
We have 8 acres, away from the road, which you are free to roam (livestock permitting which occasionally use 6 of the acres).
The cottages are brand new conversions of old farm buildings, and very high specification in terms of design, comfort and furnishings.
You can rent one or both of the properties. We find some of our returning guests often do this. Grandparents or friends stay in one cottage and the family in the other. You have your own seclusion but can get together very easily as and when you want to!

Peaceful, contemporary, light, comfortable.
Visiting daughter at uni for the week. Cottage exactly as advertised. It was perfect, very light, plenty of room for the two of us and our puppy. Walks straight from cottage. Although close to Penryn and Falmouth it is situated down country road surrounded by beautiful fields. We were entertained daily by seeing the sheep outside the bedroom, dog especially liked watching from safety of fenced little garden. Chickens provided fresh eggs if wanted. Saw the stars by night. So peaceful. We loved lighting the log burner from wood pile and playing the provided games. We visited Mousehole, Port Isaac, St Ives, The Lizard, lots of beautiful beaches nearby, National Trust Gardens. Always nice to come back to the warm cottage. Kitchen well equipped. The owners are delightful, friendly and helpful. Nearby if needed. Would recommend to friends and we intend to stay again.
CLEAN ,TIDY QUIET LOCATION,IDEAL FOR WALKERS .
QUIET PEACEFUL LOCATION , ENJOYED THE MODERN KITCHEN , THE PATIO WAS NICE TO SIT IN DURING THE AFTERNOON SUN, FOR US PERSONALLY THE LOCAL PUBS WERE TO FAR TO WALK TO ENJOY AN EVENING MEAL. THE LOCATION WAS EASY AND ACCESSIBLE FOR FALMOUTH, WE ALSO VISITED OTHER BEACHES AND PUBS WHICH WERE ON YOUR LOCAL INFORMATION CARDS.
Lovely peaceful place to stay in the countryside.
My partner and I stayed with our 2 dogs and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Lots of fields and local walks and wildlife. Good facilities in the cottage. I would recommend Bryony Cottage to anyone looking for a peaceful place to stay.
Fantastic cottage lovely area
Had wonderful time at Bryony Cottage and a much appreciated bottle of wine on arrival! Photos of cottage didn't disappoint. Great position for visiting many areas. The Pandora Inn nearby and lots of restaurants/pubs in Falmouth serving good food. Hosts very friendly and helpful. A great place to stay - would definitely recommend.
Quiet, and cozy, yet modern cottage in farming environment
We, parents and our one-year old daughter, had a great time in this well-equipped, modern cottage. Everything was working well and fitted our needs. The animals (dog "Meg", some sheep, chicken and lots of rabbits) were great to watch for our kid and Meg and one "crazy" chicken (sometimes trying to enter the cottage through the front door, at times successfully...) were even wiiling to be petted. The cottage is located in the coutryside, but Penryn and Falmouth are sufficiently close to do shopping or dining. As a small point, the kittchen outfit could be completed a bit, e.g. by a second frying pan and a large cooking pot. The bedroom is a little bright in the morning, so our daughter became active somewhat early at times. The owners, living across the driveway, were very nice and helpful, but we had all the privacy we could hope for.
Relaxing , comfortable accommodation for an elderly dog and his humans
The cottage was comfortable and well equipped and felt quite spacious. It was very nice to come home to after a busy day exploring, to find the sun shining on the sheltered patio from which we had a nice view of fields and rabbits. Although at first the winding lane to the property felt very long we quickly realised that in fact we were not far from lots of nice beaches and beautiful gardens. We particularly liked Trebah and Tressilick Gardens, also Grebe Beach and Church Cove. (Because we had a dog we couldn't go on most of the best, sandy beaches).
It was good to have the friendly, helpful owners close by and to find essentials such as tea, coffee, milk and especially a bottle of wine to welcome us on arrival.
The facilities for the dog were excellent - everything on one level, an enclosed garden and fields for him to exercise in.
I would certainly recommend this property to anyone who likes to be in a quiet location. The one-bedroom cottage was fine for us as a fairly elderly couple but you could also have a real family holiday here by renting the adjoining cottage as well.

Activity and Interests
Our central location means you can access beaches on the north, south and west coasts according to the weather and your inclination! The beaches in Falmouth (15 mins) and the Helford River are sandy, bordered by rockpools, and renowned for their diving, sailing and kayaking. North coast beaches (20-25 minutes) are reliable surfing beaches, linked by stunning stretches of coastpath. To the west, the Lizard offers renowned beaches such as at Gunwalloe (30 mins) and Poldhu.
Newquay airport - 40 minutes drive.
Exeter Airport - 90 minutes drive.
Truro mainline station - 15 minutes drive.
Penryn station - 5 minutes drive.
Ponsanooth bus stop - 20 minutes walk.
Ponsanooth 1 mile.
Stithians 2 miles.
Penryn 3 miles.
Falmouth 5 miles.
Truro 7 miles.
Just walking up our lane Wood Hill is particularly lovely - it's a double avenue of mature beech trees and differs with every season as daffodils, primroses and bluebells come and go and the leaves change their colour. Also from Higher Lidgey the walk to the old gunpowder mills at Kennal Vale is a popular choice - this deep wooded valley of the ruins of a long gone industry is very evocative with its many aqueducts and rusting water wheels. We are spoilt for choice for other walks, but walks around Flushing and Mylor, Trellissick, Mawnan Church, Porthtowan, Prussia Cove and Godrevy are among our favourites and in easy reach.Cycling - is a network of safe cycle paths following the old mineral tramways. Bike hire is available nearby at Bissoe.
Watersports - surfing, sailing, kayaking, waterskiing, kite-surfing, sea fishing are all available close by.
Pubs and restaurants - this part of Cornwall is well served for both pubs and restaurants. Our own local pub, the Stag Hunt in Ponsanooth, has a music night on a Thursday which is friendly and fun and even better, in walking distance! If you turn up without an instrument you will be in a minority but made to feel very welcome. Better known are the Pandora Inn at Mylor, The Ferryboat on the Helford River, The Golden Lion in Stithians, and in Falmouth the Chain Locker. Restaurants in Falmouth include Rick Stein's, Hunkydory, the Cove, Indaba Fish, and a recent discovery, the amazing Wheelhouse which specialises in local seafood.
Gardens - also very famous in this part of the world, the legacy of the Victorian plant collectors, and of the mildest climate in the UK. The National Trust's Trellisick, Glendurgan and Godolphin House are all nearby. The Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are a day trip (45 minutes). Also there are charming and less well known gardens like Trebah, Enys and Pottager.
