Contemporary cottages In rural location, very near to Falmouth and beaches - Rose Cottage Sleeps 4 (2 Bedrooms)

Overview

Property

Updated: 04-Dec-2016
Well designed one and two bedroom cottages in a fantastic area to accommodate all age needs

We are a small farm, now non-working except for a few chickens, four sheep and our friendly dog Meg. The two cottages, Rose and Bryony, were converted in 2011 from former cowsheds by the architect Nigel Stock, and are furnished with furniture from Mark Product - our expanding high end furniture business. The design is contemporary with wooden floors and fresh colours. All amenities are new and to a high standard. The cottages are all on one level with views across fields and each has a private west-facing deck with seating and barbecue. You are free to roam over our eight acres with a stunning view from the top taking in the span of Cornwall from north to south coasts.

Flexiblity in accommodation is available for larger family or friends group as we have an adjoining door that will enable you to access both cottages.

For children we have a field with a swing and trampoline sunk into the ground, treehouse and lots of space to explore and make dens. We are also close to many of Cornwall's finest beaches on the north, south and west coasts. The towns of Falmouth, Truro and Penryn are all close by. A perfect base for a Cornwall holiday.

Rose Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Rose Cottage is ideally situated between Truro and Falmouth, making it an excellent base for touring the rest of Cornwall.

We had a lovely week at the cottage which is clean and well equipped.

An added bonus was to have open space for our two dogs who loved running in the fields.

A lovely week and happy to recommend this property.

Rose cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week in Rose cottage which provided an ideal location in peaceful countryside yet within an easy 15 minute drive of the coast.

The listing description was accurate and the cottage itself surpassed our expectations. Everything was clean and well maintained. We loved the mix of traditional buildings and high quality contemporary interiors.

The weather was super and we can recommend a trip to Swanpool and Gillyvase beaches. Gilly cafe was brilliant for a seafood lunch.

We also headed south to the Minack theatre and north to the Eden Project_ both were first class and took about an hour to get to.

We spent some lovely relaxing evenings with our 2 18 year old sons on the rear deck, enjoyed a bbq overlooking the fields and were treated to a couple of spectacular sunsets. All absolutely tremendous....thanks very much.

Tranquil setting, yet within reach of the very best parts of Cornwall

  • 5 of 5

This is our second visit to this wonderful property, in a fantastic location for seeing all the parts of Cornwall that a tourist wants to see but also finding the hidden gems that this fantastic part of the world has to offer. The property is in a really quiet location, sitting on the decking after a busy day shopping or on the beach with no sound around is just heaven, the owners are fantastic, always on hand for advice on where to go or what to see and yet you don't know they are around. Our children loved exploring the fields surrounding the property, and our little girl loved the swing and trampoline. The property is spotlessly clean, and has everything you need, we can't recommend this property enough, we are hoping to book again and the cottage next door with some more family next year.

Tranquil rural idyll

  • 5 of 5

quiet and pretty rural corner of Cornwall yet literally minutes away from beautiful beaches. Have had a great time down here on yet another visit to the area and a repeat visit to Rose cottage. Dog friendly and flat accessible entry (great for me as I have mobility issues) the cottage is the perfect antidote to the daily grind. Perfect for country walks, trips out and around the area or just sitting watching the wildlife with a glass of wine. What's not to like?

Cottage is clean, bright and airy with comfortable furnishings and well equipped kitchen. Television is a little small - but who watches it when you're on holiday anyway? Overall a great retreat for friends or families alike. Little pleasures like watching the rabbits in the field or being greeted by Meg, the friendly farmyard dog or by the equally friendly Juliet, the pet chicken just made the stay perfect!

Owner, Kathryn, and family are caring and friendly and go the extra mile to ensure your stay is a memorable one.

Location

From the Owner

What we loved about this property was its seclusion whilst still being very accessible. It is a proper rural area - the real Cornwall, not a tourist honeypot. However it is so close to beaches, amazing walks and in between the towns of Truro and Falmouth.

Coast/Beach:

Our central location means you can access beaches on the north, south and west coasts according to the weather and your inclination! The beaches in Falmouth (15 mins) and the Helford River are sandy, bordered by rockpools, and renowned for their diving, sailing and kayaking. North coast beaches (20-25 minutes) are reliable surfing beaches, linked by stunning stretches of coastpath. To the west, the Lizard offers renowned beaches such as at Gunwalloe (30 mins) and Poldhu.

Further Details:

Just walking up our lane Wood Hill is particularly lovely - it's a double avenue of mature beech trees and differs with every season as daffodils, primroses and bluebells come and go and the leaves change their colour. Also from Higher Lidgey the walk to the old gunpowder mills at Kennal Vale is a popular choice - this deep wooded valley of the ruins of a long gone industry is very evocative with its many aqueducts and rusting water wheels. We are spoilt for choice for other walks, but walks around Flushing and Mylor, Trellissick, Mawnan Church, Porthtowan, Prussia Cove and Godrevy are among our favourites and in easy reach.Cycling - is a network of safe cycle paths following the old mineral tramways. Bike hire is available nearby at Bissoe.

Watersports - surfing, sailing, kayaking, waterskiing, kite-surfing, sea fishing are all available close by.

Pubs and restaurants - this part of Cornwall is well served for both pubs and restaurants. Our own local pub, the Stag Hunt in Ponsanooth, has a music night on a Thursday which is friendly and fun and even better, in walking distance! If you turn up without an instrument you will be in a minority but made to feel very welcome. Better known are the Pandora Inn at Mylor, The Ferryboat on the Helford River, The Golden Lion in Stithians, and in Falmouth the Chain Locker. Restaurants in Falmouth include Rick Stein's, Hunkydory, the Cove, Indaba Fish, and a recent discovery, the amazing Wheelhouse which specialises in local seafood.

Gardens - also very famous in this part of the world, the legacy of the Victorian plant collectors, and of the mildest climate in the UK. The National Trust's Trellisick, Glendurgan and Godolphin House are all nearby. The Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are a day trip (45 minutes). Also there are charming and less well known gardens like Trebah, Enys and Pottager.

Facilities

From the Owner

Because the owners are on-site the properties are very well looked after and we are available if there are any problems. We also make sure the cottages are warm and cosy and there is fresh milk, flowers and wine for you when you arrive. In spite of this convenience, most visitors won't see anything of us while you are here as the cottages have independent access and face away from our farmhouse. We have 8 acres, away from the road, which you are free to roam (livestock permitting which occasionally use 6 of the acres). The cottages are brand new conversions of old farm buildings, and very high specification in terms of design, comfort and furnishings. You can rent one or both of the properties. We find some of our returning guests often do this. Grandparents or friends stay in one cottage and the family in the other. You have your own seclusion but can get together very easily as and when you want to!
