About the property

Direct Access to Quiet, Sandy, South Facing Beach - Perfect for Families and Watersports

The house is in a stunning south facing position down a secluded fuscia- lined driveway and has a paved entrance, attractive garden, timber terrace and lawn leading directly to a causeway and beach with breathtaking sea views across the bay to St Vaast-la-Hougue and the historic Isle de Tatihou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This constantly changing panorama of sand, sea and sky, punctuated by seabirds, boats and beachcombers is mesmerising in its natural beauty. There are lovely clean, peaceful, sandy beaches on the doorstep which are perfect for sailing, kayaking, windsurfing and kitesurfing as well as rockpooling and sunbathing, so there's something for everyone. It is as close as you can get to the sea, offers the quintessential relaxed family holiday and must be a contender for one of the best views in France.

Accommodation:

The whole house underwent a complete renovation in 2011 to a high specification and still retains an attractive stone roof, antique fireplace carved from local Caen limestone and a spiral wooden staircase which all add to it's character and charm.

The interior is stylishly decorated in shades of white and comfortably furnished to include twin leather sofas in the conservatory. Framed by huge bay windows, these are the perfect place to view the picturesque scenery, with its abundant wildlife and breathtaking sunsets, at any time of the year.

Ground floor:

Living/dining room, wood burning stove, large bay window with sea views. French windows to terrace and garden. Kitchen/breakfast room, French windows to large stone terrace with pergola over. Utility, door to rear decking and beach access. Double bedroom (1.8m) with French windows to terrace, ensuite shower room/WC. Spiral staircase.

First floor:

All bedrooms have sea views.

Master double bedroom(1.8m). Double bedroom (1.2m). Children's bunk bedroom (1 x 0.90m, 1 x 0.80m, 1 x bunk 0.70m).

Bathroom, separate shower, WC.

Grounds:

Partially enclosed grounds with flower beds and lawned areas. Pergola over stone terrace, timber decked outdoor dining and seating area, gas BBQ, sea views. Outdoor heated shower. Path to beach.

Parking for 3 cars.

The Beach House is 2.5 km from St Vaast La Hougue and it's marina, and 32km from the ferry connections at Cherbourg or 110km from Caen. The region attracts visitors internationally and is renowned for its gastronomy and oyster beds in particular. Golf, tennis, riding and good local restaurants are nearby, along with many sites of interest including Norman Churches and Cathedrals, the Bayeaux Tapestry (1hr), Mont St Michel (2hr), Normandy Landing Beaches and WWll Cemeteries and Museums within easy driving distance. There are supermarkets and amenities within 10 mins drive and local shops only 5 mins away. Many visit the historic landing beaches, museums and fortifications along the coast but as a tourist destination the area remains largely unspoilt.

About Mrs N Saxton

We are a family with 3 children aged from teens to twenties living in Gloucestershire. We have been holidaying in this region for over 30 years with friends and extended family of all ages, enjoying the outdoor activities and friendly welcome. I am a graphic designer and my husband is a swimming pool architect and this is the third house we have renovated in the area so we knew a good thing when we saw it.

Mrs N Saxton purchased this house in 2010

Why Mrs N Saxton chose Jonville

It's hard not to be blown away by this view and we never tire of it. The constantly changing tides, sands and sky are quite hypnotic, particularly from the slightly raised viewpoint. There's always a gentle hint of activity such as locals walking out at low tide to collect cockles or a someone out on horseback but essentially it all remains

beautifully unspoilt and quiet.

What makes this house unique

The house is in a perfect position, overlooking a picturesque UNESCO World Heritage site, with a beautiful sandy beach only steps away, ideal for buckets and spades, and a favourite destination for wind and kite surfers, .

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We returned home, tired but happy after six magical days at the Beach House,

a little oasis of peace and beauty which soothes the soul. And the beach is the most wonderful seaside adventure playground for children. Our four young grandchildren adored exploring rock pools for crabs and shells! May '12

"...what a wonderful time we had at your house in Normandy. What a lovely place, no crowds and a spectacular view through your stunning window looking out on the Channel. We loved every minute." July '12

"Absolutely love your house and garden, not forgetting the fabulous view.

I'm going to have to go on a diet when we get home as I'm becoming addicted to the patisserie in St Vaast." Sept '12

Thoughtfully and attractively set up for a perfect family seaside holiday in a superb location

  • 5 of 5

A truly exceptional location with the beach adjacent to the well kept garden and fabulous views across the bay to St Vasst. The facilities both in the Beach House and the garden made for an exceptionally relaxing family holiday. Everything was presented to a high standard including the linen bathrooms and garden. A seaside theme throughout in the way the house is (slightly shabby chic) furnished coupled with a modern kitchen and bathrooms was much appreciated.

A good choice of restaurants in the area and excellent seafood from harbour side stalls coupled with evenings at the Beach House sampling from Gosslin's magnificent cellar, to help decide which to take home, all made for a truly lovely holiday.

Absolutely wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated our forthcoming Golden Wedding Anniversary with our family at the Boathouse, from the youngest, aged six, to the eldest, we all had the most wonderful holiday. The house is so comfortable, well equipped and situated right on the beach, just spectacular!! We all hope to return in the very near future.

  • 5 of 5

We just had the best time here. It's location right on the beach is fabulous for all the family and St Vaast has a wonderful tradition market on a Saturday. The house is very much up together and has obvious just been fully renovated. We loved it and can't wait to come back.

Start the day with delicious fresh bread, pastries, brioches and croissants from the bakers in Réville only a 5 minute drive from the house.

Follow this with a day trip to the nearby Isle of Tatihou which dominates the view. It can be reached from St Vaast either on foot at low tide through the oyster beds or by sea on an amphibious craft, a novel and exciting way to travel. Once there you can climb the unusual 17th century Vauban Tower, visit the Maritime Museum, Café and Bird Reserve or explore the beaches and rock pools. On returning to St Vaast you can't miss a trip to the famous local épicerie, grocery and wine shop of Maison Gosselin, Normandy's answer to Fortnum and Mason. Some sail over from England just to stock up from the treasures of his wine cave and he will even deliver to your boat using his quaint vintage red van. This bustling port also contains several good family friendly restaurants, informal cafés and bars serving the typical rustic, gourmet Normandy cuisine including fantastic local seafood, dairy produce and calvados. La Criee de Tomahawk has a superb selection of fish and shellfish straight from the boat and the best (and biggest) pizzas are served at the Debarcadere along the harbour front. La Marina is another favourite restaurant with comfortable chairs and alfresco dining on the large sunny terrace right on the marina. The family will often congregate there for lunch on a Saturday after visiting the market and will always receive a warm and friendly welcome. Weekly street markets are held in all the local towns on different days and are always worth a browse. Fresh fish and the famous local oysters can be bought either direct from the boat or from one of the impressive fish mongers in the town and if ever ice is needed in bulk for chilling drinks just take a bucket to a fishmongers and they'll fill it up for you.

Just 10 minutes up the coast is Barfleur, a charming fishing port which has a rich historical heritage and 900 years ago was one of the busiest ports in Europe. There is a plaque by the church here to commemorate the launch in 1066 of William the Conqueror's locally built ship, la Mora, to cross the sea to Hastings. If possible make time for a long relaxing lunch on the front at the Café de France where they serve possibly the best moules frites in the area. Follow it up with a trip to the studio shop of the local potter, Le Fevre, whose work includes stunning designs of fish and birds.

If you still have energy to spare then it's fun to climb Gatteville lighthouse, one of the tallest in France and only a few more minutes drive away, with it's spectacular view out to sea and the rocks below.

Other must-see day trips include Bayeaux, home of the famous tapestry, Mont Saint Michel, Saint-Lo National Stud and Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg. The region attracts visitors internationally and many visit the historic Normandy Landing Beaches, Museums Cemetaries and fortifications along the coast but as a tourist destination the area remains essentially unspoilt.

A perfect way to end the day is down at the Pointe de Saire, at the end of the peninsula. These beaches are a prime location for windsurfers and kitesurfers who frequent the local bay when conditions are favourable. It's fantastic to watch them on a summer's evening from the Goeland Bar, cold drink or ice cream in hand, looking out across the picturesque bay.
