Cottage in Le Petit Fougeray, Thouarsais Bouildroux, Vendee, Pays de la Loire, France - Quiet, Rural Location

Situated in a tiny hamlet, within the beautiful Vendeen countryside, the converted farm-workers cottage has plenty of outdoor space and a large swimming pool with decking area, just right for relaxing and unwinding. Located close to the Mervent/Vouvant Forest, the area is ideal for walking, cycling and horse riding and also boasts a zoo, outdoor adventure park and tree-top climbing venue. The River Vendee, which meanders through the forest, provides a safe river beach, kayak and pedalo hire and fishing. There are a number of restaurants and bars nearby and an excellent creperie in an old moated chateau in the forest. The medieval village of Vouvant, 'one of the most beautiful villages in France', is home to many artists whose work can be viewed in various workshops and galleries dotted around the picturesque streets. Notes on accommodation: No smoking inside property. Outside: The cottage is situated on a large plot with barns,courtyard, garden and private swimming pool. There is ample parking space within the gravelled courtyard area. There is a BBQ area with charcoal BBQ and table, a patio with furniture behind the house, a decked area next to the pool with loungers, a large area of grass and a selection of pool inflatables and garden games [cricket, tennis, football, etc..]. Utility Room: The utility area is situated in the cellar and contains a washing machine, ironing board, iron and fridge. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen is provided. The property is cleaned and linen changed on changeover day.

Coast/Beach:

Less than one hour's drive away are the beautiful, sandy beaches of the Vendee coast. La Rochelle and Ile de Re are about one hour away.

Travel:

Travelling via ferry to the ports of St. Malo, Caen, Cherbourg, Roscoff and Le Havre you can expect a kdrive of between 3.5 and 5 hours. Alternatively you can fly into the airports of La Rochelle, Nantes and Poitiers which are all around one hour away.

Local amenities:

La Caillere [5km] is the nearest village with a bakers,butchers, Spar, pharmacy, post office, bar and restaurant. Vouvant [8km] picturesque medieval village with keep, ramparts, river, bars, cafes and restaurant. Mervent Forest offers many activities. La Chataigneraie [12km] small town with three supermarkets and all amenities.

Fontenay le Comte [20km] beautiful renaissance town with large supermarkets, shops and a traditional Saturday market.

Further Details:

Puy de Fou (30 mins away) is where time stands still - and will be an instant hit with children and adults alike. You'll see villages from different eras, gladiators still doing battle and Vikings launching attacks on fortified castles! In the summer there are 28 evening/night shows with 300 fireworks per show, 2000 digitally-controlled projectors, 1500 computerised fountains, 4500 costumes and many more special effects. There are minstrels in the heart of the woods and master falconers in the meadows. This attraction is very popular so be sure to book early. The historic town of Fontenay Le Comte is 16km away. Discover gourmet restaurants, visit the Chateau and Museums, browse at the Saturday market, sit and relax at a pavement cafe, whether studying the architecture or just walking along the banks of the river Vendee, the ambience of the town is totally French. It also has a new indoor swimming pool and a go-karting facility. Just the other side of Fontenay is the Marais Poitevin or Venice Vert (Green Venice), a network of canals where you can hire boats by the hour or longer and go for a punt. Futuroscope at Poiters has many educational attractions and is a great day out for young and old alike. La Rochelle has many attractions including the Vieux Port, Aquarium, restaurants and shopping. Just off the coast of La Rochelle is the island of Ile de Re which is very chic, has lots of restaurants, cycling paths, beaches and shaggy donkeys in pyjamas. Further up the coast is Le Sable d'lonne, home of the Vendee Globe yacht race.
