About the Owner
My husband, Rob, and I retired to France nearly 8 years ago with our Westie, Sammy and have since adopted another Westie, Paddy. We had dreamed of retiring to France for many years and at last our dream has come true. Having bought our dream home, we decided that we would renovate the cottage, for our family and our grandchildren, the eldest of whom is 25 years of age, and then we decided to share our love of this area with other people. We live discreetly on site providing a personal service, if required.

Hosts, Sandra and Rob are fantastic from start to finish, welcoming and friendly and a wealth of local information. Accommodation had everything we wanted and more. Put simply... perfect many many thanks and we hope to be lucky enough to return. - Karen and Stuart, Nottingham.
A heavenly holiday in perfect surroundings with a gorgeous pool. The cottage is cosy and equipped with everything we needed. A generous welcome pack provided on arrival was a blessing after the journey - Carol and Ian - Huddersfield

4.5 based on 8 holidaymaker reviews
The photographs of Pinewood Cottage do not do justice to the quality, cleanliness and overall standard of accommodation of this wonderful place to spend a holiday. On top of which Rob and Sandra are so welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. We would like to keep this place secret so we can return again and again, but this wouldn't be fair to Rob and Sandra. So instead we have decided to buy a property in the Charente so we can pop in to see Rob and Sandra. We would recommend Pinewood Cootage without hesitation.
Peaceful idyllic retreat
If you are looking for a relaxing rural holiday in a lovely part of France, then this is the place for you. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel really welcome by Sandra and Rob, as well as Paddy and Sam, their two friendly Westies.
A lot of thought had been put into the welcome pack including produce from their garden, which was fantastic. Just what was needed after the drive down.
The cottage was very clean and tidy and had everything that we needed from a good selection of books, board games to a very well equipped kitchen. Sandra and Rob were also kind enough to let us use their washing machine.
We spent a lot of the time relaxing by the pool as well as making the most of the inflatables provided. We made use of the bikes provided and also went for walks in the woods next to the property past beautifu fields of sunflowers.
Sandra and Rob's local knowledge was really helpful, from giving us directions to the nearest supermarkets to recommending places to visit. La Vallee des Singes was a really good day out, and only 20 mins away. We also went kayaking in Ruffec.
We would highly recommend this cottage to anyone who is looking to get away from it all in a beautiful part of France.
Sandra and Rob were the perfect hosts.
We couldn't ask for any more from this holiday (apart from being longer). We were met at the gate by Sandra & Rob when we arrived who gave us a very warm welcome and introduced us to Sam and Paddy their two little dogs. The accommodation is first class, spotlessly clean, with everything in the kitchen you could want. The welcome pack is excellent, so no need to nip off to the supermarket when you get there, so straight into chill mode. The house and garden is immaculate with loads of wildlife all around. We went for a total chill but had a walk in the country lanes and the forest tracks most days usually returning to the great pool and a glass of wine (of course), but it also makes a good base for getting around the Charente region enjoying the empty roads and fabulous views. Sandy and I will certainly be back.
Pinewood Cottage is a great place for that relaxed holiday, thank you Sandra and Rob for making us most welcome.
After having stayed in a caravan for a week it was fantastic to drive upto Rob and Sandra's cottage. They were there to welcome us and show us around the cottage, which was amazing. It was beautifully presented, clean and spacious with everything you could possibly want for a relaxing self catering holiday. Sandra had also provided a welcome pack for us which was extremely generous. The cottage is in a lovely peaceful location and Rob and Sandra live on the grounds with their 2 Westies, who often popped over to say hello. We had our own private garden which was fully equipped with table tennis, badminton, boules, bikes, water volleyball, sun loungers etc. Nothing was too much trouble and if we needed anything we only had to ask. Rob and Sandra were a very hospitable couple and we found them extremely friendly. A very detailed book was provided which recommended places to visit and eat. We found plenty do and our 2 teenaged boys had a great time, bike riding, playing in the pool and chilling. We are looking forward to visiting again in the near future.
On arrival at Pinewood Cottage we were happy to find it in first class order with everything you could ever want, it could not be cleaner and the welcome pack surpassed any we have had in other stays in French gites. Supermarkets were only 10 mins drive and plenty to choose from. Rob and Sandra were excellent hosts and helped out whenever we needed advice on where to visit and recommending places to eat, we enjoyed many first class meals in the region. Rob and Sandra work hard to keep the gardens and pool in perfect condition and it was a wonderful facility on those hot days. A perfect base to explore the region, Pinewood Cottage would be our first port of call next time we are in the area. Good luck keep up the good work!!
We had a fabulous two weeks here with our three children. The pool was simply fantastic, uncovered and cleaned daily by Rob. Rob and Sandra were the perfect hosts - discreet but always available and helpful with local advice, ably assisted by Paddy and Sam, their two friendly Westies! The cottage itself was like Dr Who's tardis! We had seen it on google maps and feared it looked small from the outside but not at all! - once inside the space was more than ample for a family of five (kids aged 6 - 14). We found it to be immaculately presented, very clean and extremely well equipped. The availability of bikes was an added bonus, although we didn't use them as much as intended - it was much too easy to stay in the garden playing boules, swim or lie by the pool reading a book - the perfect place to unwind!
