About the Owner

Yannick and Malcolm bought Panjas 15 years ago having fallen in love with it. Many years have been spent in a labour of love renovating the house and landscaping the garden while both working in England. Yannick was born in France and qualified as a teacher of both French and English, then was foolish enough to spend time in England where she met and married Malcolm over 30 years ago. On their retirement they moved to Panjas to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the area, the friendliness of the "Gersois" and of course the excellent gastronomy that the region is so well known for. We both look forward to welcoming you to our small piece of Paradise.

We can say without hesitation that your hideaway is well worth the 900 mile journey.La Bonne Auberge at Manciet is truly wonderful and dinner there rates in our top 3 meals of all time. (2 adults, Manchester)

(If paradise exists, it (must) resemble Panjas a lot) (2 adults, 2 teenagers, Belgium)

The kindness and warmth of our hosts, the calm and beauty of the property, a region rich in culture, the welcome of the Gersois, have contibuted to enjoy our holiday "en famille" (Translated from French) (2 adults, 3 children, France)

A truly wonderful retreat in a beautiful location which fully aids the relaxation process. Our only complaint is that our stay is not long enough. (2 adults, 1 child, Devon)

Our 4th visit, each time gets better and better.(Bournemouth)

Should have been 4 weeks instead of 2 (2 adults, Glasgow)

This is what Paradise is like, its so peaceful. (2 adults 2 children, Truro).

Peace and tranquility with beautiful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

Following a week of camping in the Pyrenees, we arrived at Panjas ready for some relaxation and were immediately awed by the beautiful setting. The garden is large and varied and very well maintained, with a backdrop of the local farmers' maize and sunflower fields. The pool is cleaned every morning by Malcolm and was perfect for cooling off and keeping our 8 year old entertained. The gite is very well equipped - I can't think of anything which was lacking, and Yannick was the perfect host giving a thorough tour round and ensuring everything was to our satisfaction. A bottle of the local aperitif 'floc' was left for us, together with some water and soft drinks in the fridge (though the tap water is fine for drinking).

The balcony was decorated with lovely hanging baskets and perfect for spotting wonderful insects (hummingbird moths, big black bees, butterflies, etc) and it was great to see so many bees around the abundance of lavender at the foot of the entrance staircase. Lizards were also aplenty and intriguing to watch.

We ventured out to a couple of local villages/ towns for markets and food shopping which were 10- 20 minutes away by car and had everything we required. I had a few early morning jogs down the lane and back along the road to Averon-Bergelle, seeing perhaps 2 cars each time. It really is such a haven of peace and tranquility, I can't stress enough how relaxing we found it.

Yannick and Malcolm were great, usually on hand to offer advice if we needed it, but leaving us to ourselves for the most part, as we weren't really bothered about going anywhere much! I would definitely recommend this gite to those who crave slipping away from it all and whiling away the hours, though I'm sure there is plenty to go and see locally should the urge take you! We will definitely be back sometime...

Fantastic Gite in Lovely, Peaceful Area

  • 5 of 5

This gite (Panjas) is located in a very peaceful part of Gers. It is in a rural area surrounded by corn fields and vineyards. The gite is at the end of a small road and the only passing traffic is the occasional tractor from the neighbouring farm!

The gite itself is immaculately clean and very well equipped. It has everything you need. It has a very large balcony which is perfect for sitting out, especially in the evenings with a glass of wine!

The pool and gardens are very well maintained and we were very lucky to be able to try some of Malcolm & Yannick's homegrown fruit and vegetables.

Malcolm and Yannick were perfect hosts. Friendly, informative and always available but also allowed us privacy. They kindly took us to a local village fete on our first evening there and this was a lovely introduction to the local culture with a lot of wine being consumed! It was something that is not experienced by visitors very often.

All in all, Panjas is a fantastic gite in lovely, peaceful surroundings - everything that is needed for a relaxing holiday. We would very highly recommend Panjas to anyone who wants to chill out while still being able to explore the beautiful countryside and towns.

Beautiful location perfect for a visit to Gascony.

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful part of Gers and where better to stay than here. It is even more beautiful than the photographs. They do not capture the peace, tranquility and the stunning flaura and fauna in Yannick's lovely garden or the views across the countryside from the balcony which is hung with pretty flowers. The first thing that greets you is the aroma of lavender and the welcome from our hosts was fantastic. Warm and friendly, they were the perfect hosts, giving advice on where to eat and visit, taking an interest in their guests, on hand yet unobtrusive. We felt perfectly 'looked after'.

There is so much to do here too. Jazz at Marciac was fabulous and we will return again and again to that wonderful festival. We also enjoyed visiting the numerous Chateaux, beautiful villages, vineyards as well as attending some of the many festivals. The annual one at Lupiac ( home of D'Artignan) is a must. For those who like shopping and history, the city of Auch is also nearby and well worth a visit. We also drove to the Pyrenees, which was not far and offered a feast for the eyes, so spectacular was the scenery.

The food of Gascony is quite simply fabulous and Malcolm and Yannick advised on several places to eat all of which were great.

All this and after a day spent basking in the wonderful Gers sunshine, a great pool to refresh you with a lovely private area to sunbathe. I will certainly return. Thank you Yannick for a truly memorable holiday.

A village in East Sussex near Tunbridge Wells.

A place in the country

  • 4 of 5

Panjas is a charming old property, with lovingly tended gardens, set amid fields, hedgerows and woodland at the end of a narrow lane which immediately morphs into a track.

A holiday here is about peace and quiet and the open air.

Favoured pursuits for us were sitting in the garden of the gite which abuts the main house, lying by the pool or sipping a drink and eating a leisurely meal on the balcony.

Then there was the exploration of the countryside, whether walking or driving, visiting the excellent market at Eauze and dining at local restsaurants.

The closest of these in Manciet - about three miles - was particularly good. Those with deep pockets can order an 1848 armagnac at 400 euros a glass. That's right - not a bottle, a glass.

La Cave at Aignan, some six miles away, serves robust peasant food that will sate the heartiest appetites.

The gite's owners Yannick and Macolm were friendly and helpful - particularly in booking tables and suggesting places of interest to visit. Yannick organised a visit to a nearby armagnac distillery where I bought a good bottle at a very good price.

A peaceful and delightful retreat

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful location for a relaxing holiday....beautifully quiet location in fantastic countryside. A gorgeous garden with lovely pool - just great for hot sunny days.

Accommodation as pictured and description. Owners Yannick and Malcolm are warm and friendly and exceedingly helpful when required....just the right touch.

Good restaurants in the area...great wine, lots of wildlife and birds. So many places to go and see, so many fabulous markets and activities...even after two weeks we were left wanting more.

Relaxing holiday in a charming gite.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our fortnight in this peaceful location. Yannick and Malcolm were most welcoming and hospitable, as well as providing useful information about the locality and what it had to offer. The gite was clean, well equipped and just right for the two of us. We particularly enjoyed meals and drinks on the balcony overlooking the beautiful garden and pool area. The nearby village of Aignon was handy for food shopping and had incredible views towards and along the central chain of the Pyrenees. We enjoyed touring the beautiful villages near Condom, the medieval festival at Cazaubon and longer day trips to the mountains. Highly recommended for a relaxing holiday deep in rural France.

From the Owner

We looked all over the South West of France before settling in the Gers. The area is like France used to be 50 years ago. Quiet, unassuming and so welcoming. Mainly agricultural with thousands of acres of woods, many lakes and as much open space as you could wish for. The air is clean, no factories, motorways or even trains to disturb the calm, as we are at the end of a road it is not unusual for weeks to pass with only the postman or an occasional tractor disturbing the peace At night there is no light pollution, to gaze at the pitch black sky with its innumerable stars is a joy not often experienced in the UK.
