About the Owner

We are a retired couple living in Surrey who enjoy having a home in the warm sunshine. We owned property in Gozo before we discovered Menorca.

The short journey time from the UK is a real bonus. Our family, with two sons, have loved our holidays on the island and now our grandchildren are following in the family footsteps to this island.

Perfect villa in the countryside.

  • 5 of 5

The villa suited our family holiday, we all had our own bedroom and bathroom. Very spacious and well equipped. The gardens are beautiful, we made good use of the BBQ with its own seating area. The pool is large and clean, whilst not heated we all had a swim, even in October. The tortoises are great to see and appeared everyday in the sunshine. A car is a must, but very quick and easy to pop to the nearest village. We would certainly consider a return visit.

Secluded and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We had the most wonderful holiday at this villa. There were six of us in total and we were very comfortable. My husband and I were with our daughter and son-in-law and our two grandchildren. We loved the large garden and the amazing pool. With lots of space and areas of shade there was always a quiet spot for everyone . We had many memorable meals in the lovely shaded area on the side patio. We didn't eat out a lot as we were content to enjoy the atmosphere at the villa. Breakfast was a great time of day and we all enjoyed the daily tortoise visit. In the evening it was geckos and bats.

We were a little surprised at how good the bird life is at this rather hot time of year. Listening to Cetti's warbler every day was a delight. On several occasions at night we were treated to the churring of nightjars. We probably would have heard a lot more but the heat during the night was such that we had fans going all the time to try and keep cool.

As I mentioned previously, the pool is amazing. Very well maintained and cleaned twice during our stay. The children could hardly believe that we had the pool just for us. We were often swimming well into the evening. The lighting is good so it looked stunning in the dark.

The location of San Juan was perfect for us. We had peace and privacy and not far to go for a good supermarket. We found that the ones in Cala en Porter were good but we also discovered that Lidl just outside Mahon was only a short drive and is excellent.Maybe 15 or 20 mins away?. If you venture out for a meal during the evening then our recommendation would be to drive into Mahon as this is were we experienced lovely food and fabulous atmosphere. There were many choices of restaurant and a walk along the port just as the sun was setting was beautiful.

This was our first visit to the Island and we will definitely return and if we do we wouldn't hesitate to choose San Juan. To us it was home from home in the Med. Perfect.

A lovely, quiet and engaging villa

  • 5 of 5

Our whole family loves this villa. It is large, well set out, has everything you need. Particular highlights are the large pool and the outside seating area, where may glasses of wine are consumed and the world is put to rights. The setting is isolated and quiet, but we found we could get anywhere on the island in under an hour from the house. The owners are helpful and friendly, as are the staff who come to maintain the grounds and the pool, and the management company. All in all, a great place to visit.

Unwind, relax and escape at this tranquil oasis

  • 5 of 5

A multi faceted oasis, with areas for all times of the day, whatever your mood. A multi levelled pool, for just cooling down, swimming or games, a wonderful location on the front patio for a sundowners, whilst watching the sun ebb slowly towards evening. A fountain and the waterfall's that cascade over the rocks make the morning cup of coffee somehow more refreshing, and a great place to sit and read. We had a superb time, the location has so many lovely relaxing areas, sun traps and views, but also great communal areas, that lend them selves to evenings eating and sipping long cool drinks. Internally very clean and nicely furnished, with bathrooms for all - with showers and good water pressure. We all particularly liked the local restaurant "Bernats" the steaks were wonderful. We all had a great stay and would recommend the property.

Attractive villa in peaceful rural location.

  • 4 of 5

We were all very happy with the villa. It was very clean and tidy, there was plenty of space for us all.

The pool was lovely - an interesting shape - and, very importantly, natural shade around it (and later in the afternoon over parts of it) which makes it pretty much perfect .

The location of the villa is really private since it's surrounded by spacious, and interesting, gardens; with lovely views out to Cala En Porter. We could hear some music in the evenings from the resort- but only very distant - not offensive at all! In fact, the crickets in the trees are noisier!! - but you get used to them - and are a feature of all mediterranean holidays.

The big white table was excellent for day time meals as its located such that you are shaded from the direct sun. In the evenings we moved it out onto the patio a little way from the house since it was a bit cooler there - so perfect for meals no matter the location of the sun!

We had an issue with a drain blocking, but the maintenance company sorted it out very quickly. Stuff happens - but if its fixed quickly you cant ask for more.

Some Suggestions;

Make sure all the bathrooms are lockable. One wasnt.

Improve the Internet. We lost connectivity for a few days - and I think the extender device was partly to blame since when off it seemed to work more reliably. Sadly these days internet connection is as necessary as breathing. Especially as far as teenagers are concerned!

We were 9 people and sometimes found the fridge a little small but managed OK.( And - no - it wasnt full of beer. Well ... not completely anyway) .

All in all a beautiful villa, lovely peaceful situation and well cared for,a car is essential for your stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind comments and suggestions. Regarding the Wi Fi, the connection is by satellite connection with a limited data supply. We are dependent upon the facilities which are available on the island. Glad you had a good time, hope to see you again.

The perfect property - Spacious & Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at San Juan. The house is very spacious and set in around an acre of delightful gardens, with a huge pool. Our children were thrilled at the daily tortoise visits, and spent the entire week adventuring around all the abundant gardens, and enjoying the water, with very little adult input required! The grown ups thoroughly enjoyed the comfy sun loungers, lovely breakfast area, and fab BBQ. We had some lovely relaxed evenings with fresh fish straight off the grill, excellent Minorcan wine, and local hams and cheeses. The bedrooms are really comfy, spacious and well appointed, with everything you need, including decent towels. The kitchen is well stocked with glasses, serving dishes, cutlery, utensils etc. The management company were really helpful and efficient, and the owners very communicative and friendly. Highly recommended.

Location

From the Owner

San Juan is located between Alaior and the south coast of the island. It is part of a gated estate of properties which gives privacy and security. The house is on slightly high ground which gives us views of the sea and a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside. We are close to one of the spectacular gorges on the island and where there are eagles nesting. It is extremely quite and peaceful and although the airport is only about 20 minutes drive away, we never hear the airplanes as the flight paths are in a totally different direction. The island has more beaches than all the other Balearic islands added together. There are wonderful restaurants and historic towns to explore and the island is a great place for walking through unspoilt countryside.

Coast/Beach:

The resort town of Cala en Porter, with its lovely sandy beach and sheltered bay, is about 10 minutes by car. Many other beaches are within easy, quick reach – in fact Menorca has more beaches than all the other Balearic Islands added together.

Travel:

The nearby towns of Alaior and SantCliment offer a variety of good shops, bars and restaurants. Despite its total seclusion, airport journey time by car (which is essential) is just 15-20 minutes.

Distances:

SanJuan is part of the estate of SantTomeu comprising 22 residences – each with its own 5 acre plot - and is located inland, off a road which connects the historic local town of Alaior with the road from SantCliment to Cala en Porter. Despite its total seclusion, airport journey time by car (which is essential) is just 15-20 minutes, and the resort town of Cala en Porter, with its lovely sandy beach and sheltered bay, is about 10 minutes.

Further Details:

Mahon - the current capital of the island is about 25 minutes by car, a fascinating town with a very interesting history and a huge deep water harbour – favoured by Nelson. The old capital town - Ciutadella is the farthest town from the villa and is 50 minutes drive. This is a must to explore with its medieval quarter and wonderful shops. Menorca is a small island with an area of 271 sq miles (702 km2), rounded by a coastline of 134 miles(216 km), a distance from north to south of 29 mile. The island has a golf course and can provide sailing and other water sports and horse riding. Bicycles can be hired from Mahon. You can discover the authentic countryside and stunning coastline of Menorca by walking on the ancient Cami de Cavalls, the Path of the Horses, which takes you around the coast of Menorca.

Facilities

From the Owner

San Juan is a very individually designed property with an unusual very large pentagon shaped swimming pool. With such a large area of ground it is wonderfully private and peaceful. The garden has a variety of trees offering shade – very restful in the heat of the day. The original owner went to tremendous lengths to create an interesting garden with its many terraces and water features and this is one it its many appealing features. As Menorca is on the migratory route for many birds, we see a wonderful variety of different species in the garden, also there are many “wild” tortoises who take regular walks around the garden, and will want to share your breakfast.
