La Cancela Verde was built by the present owners to a very high specification. The design was by a renowned designer who worked with Cesar Manrique on a number of projects on the island. The house reflects many features of the island architecture. The villa is located on a private development of three individual villas, all separated by substantial gardens and a traditional house nearby. The villa is in an elevated position, overlooking untended farmland commanding panoramic views of the sea, the islands of Lobos and Fuerteventura to the south-west and the mountains of Femes to the West. The south-westerly aspect offers clients sunshine from dawn to dusk on the ample terraces and armchair views of the splendid scenery. The villa is easily reached by the main trunk road from the airport - a journey of 20 minutes by car and is on the outskirts of the village of Puerto del Carmen which is five minutes by car and close to the attractive yacht marina at Puerto Calero.

About the Owner

La Cancela Verde was our private residence before we moved to mainland Spain. We were instrumental in creating quality villa holidays on the island since 1972 and managed 1000 beds in various developments of apartments and villas. Our tour operator, (now part of First Choice), set the standard for quality villa holidays and our management company offered a high standard of service for many years. Our company built the villa in 1979 and we have looked after it with care over the years and continually upgrade and improve the facilities. We often visit to relax and enjoy the peace and unsurpassed views that the villa offers. Many of our clients come back to stay year after year and we listen to their comments and recommendations which are always helpful.

La Cancela Verde is a lovely comfortable relaxing villa with beautiful unobstructed views and well maintained large gardens. It benefits from having different areas outside where you can sit in shade or sunshine throughout the day. The outdoor barbeque is large with a good sheltered seating area alongside.

The villa is well maintained throughout and the managers are friendly and respond quickly and efficiently to any enquiries.

The setting is peaceful and the gardens look out to sea towards the island of Fuerteventura to the south and the hills and volcanoes to the west. The villa is within quite easy walking distance of the many bars and restaurants in the old town and port area of Puerto Del Carmen and this can be achieved on well lit and well paved side roads with little or no traffic.

Fantastic home in an ideal location

We stayed in this villa over Easter 2016.

Excellent facilities, plenty of room, clean and well maintained.

The villa is very large and there were plenty of different areas to sit during the day to get the most of the sun. Loved the new outdoor shower area, it was a great addition to the villa.

The location was ideal, not too close to the town centre but within walking distance and because of this the views from the villa were amazing.

We really enjoyed out stay at this villa and as a result we are returning next Easter.

Paradise !

The villa was absolutely wonderful.So spacious,clean and well maintained. Suzana was there on our arrival to help us settle in and show us where everything was,she was so sweet and kind ,a pleasure to be in her company.

The views from the villa where spectacular especially at sunset,as was the new outside shower.You could look at the sea when you were having your morning shower,amazing!!

There was a restaurant less than 5 minutes from the villa that did the most wonderful steaks,try the t bone,you won't be disappointed!

To sum up this villa was one of the best we have stayed in and we have stayed in quite a few. Lanzarote is a fasinating island to explore with plenty of activities for all ages,even a trip on a submarine.Excellent location of the villa made it very easy to see everything we wanted to. Perfect.

Coast/Beach:

One of the principal beaches on the island is in Puerto del Carmen which is five minutes by car. A landscaped promenade runs the length of the beaches for several miles eastwards. There are bars, restaurants and shops set back from the road. For quieter beaches, Playa Blanca, (40 minutes by car) with spectacular natural outcrops encircling white sand beaches are enticing. In the north, the pristine and untouched white sand of Orsola or the dramatic Atlantic scenery of Famara are memorable.

Travel:

The airport is 20 minutes by car - 4 kilometers. The nearest beach is five minutes' drive - 1.5km. The ferry to Fuerteventura leaves from Playa Blanca - 40 minutes drive - 15 km. The nearest golf course is a five minute drive, the nearest bar and restaurant a short five minute walk towards Puerto del Carmen. The nearest (private) hospital is a six minute drive. Hotels, shops, restaurants, banks, supermarkets, night clubs, a diving school and hire car facilities are all in Puerto del Carmen.

Further Details:

The yacht marina of Puerto Calero nearby offers trips on a submarine to view marine life, a catamaran for sailing excursions and a sailing school. Puerto del Carmen has a sub-aqua school. The waters off Lanzarote are clear with good visibility and a variety of underwater fauna and flora. Camel rides and horse riding are available from Yaiza (a 15 minute drive). There are interesting coastal and inland walks and bicycles can be hired. Wind surfing is a strong sport on the island and at La Santa, a sports and leisure complex, there is a windsurf school as well as in Puerto del Carmen. For excursions, the "Green Caves" - a series of volcanic tubes offer a fascinating insight into the effecta of a volcanic eruption and the nearby "Jameos del Agua" with its lagoon with blind white crabs and spectacular setting forms an enchanting night club. The volcanic history of the island is evident all over the island, however, at the "Fire Mountain" one can actually feel the heat and see the effects whilst dining in the unique restaurant. Driving through the vineyards of "La Geria", stopping off at a bodega to sample the wine and then going on to the mountainous northern tip of the island brings you to the "Mirador del Rio", a remarkable lookout point from where in the comfort of the cafe one can view the island of La GraCiosa far below. A visit to the cactus garden in Guatiza and to Cesar Manrique's fantastical house, built part underground amongst the lava caves is a special experience. the many small villages each have a distinct character and one can find enchanting bars and restaurants as at "El Golfo" in the south, where one can dine on the beachside and visit the green lagoon nearby, finding the semi-precious olivine (peridot) in the black sand. Wherever one travels on Lanzarote there is always something different to experience and the island provides interest and entertainment for all the family.

Booking Notes:
Once we have confirmed your reservation by Email, we require a deposit of £250 to secure the villa booking. Within eight weeks of arrival, the balance due is payable. All payments are by transfer only, regrettably we cannot handle cheques or credit card payments. In the event of a cancellation prior to payment of the balance, a full refund of the deposit will be made. After the balance has been made no refund can be guaranteed although we shall try to resell the period booked if possible.

Changeover Day:
Usually Thursdays, however, at certain times of the year on other days. Please enquire.

Notes on prices:
The prices quoted are for 1-4 persons. For each 5th and 6th person add £350 per week. A cot and high chair are provided free of charge. A breakages deposit of £100 or 150 euros will be required to be paid along with the final payment balance. This is returned within a week of departure unless there is material damage or breakage.

Pool heating can be requested out of season at an extra cost.

La Cancela Verde has an elegance and charm that modern properties cannot match. It also has unsurpassed views that many have said offer the best grandstand seat on the island. It is difficult to disagree. The location offers convenience yet seclusion. One can walk from the villa to the village and yet one is in the country and there are no closely adjoining properties. Since we built all the villas in the vicinity we ensured each one's privacy. The villa occupies 500 sq metres in gardens of half an acre and this space and the clever design afford privacy for all our guests - there is always a quiet spot at any time of the day as the sun moves around the terraces. The villa has enormous character and comfort and is warm in the winter and cool in the summer due to its solid construction.

  • Notes on accommodation: A portable fan and electric heater are available as required for a small fee. Outside: The gardens are private and secluded. The main terrace offers spectacular views to the south and south-west. There is a private covered breakfast and dining terrace for alfresco meals, a sunken BBQ area with built-in double BBQ and seating with adjoining bodega. Each bedroom has a private walled terrace and there is built in seating around the gardens to take advantage of the sun and views at different times of day. There is a giant inlaid chess board, seating and sunbeds. The main landscaped pool measures 13 x 7 metres and is accessed by classic steps from an astroturf area. The separate circular shallow children's pool measures 2 metres in diameter and is accessed by classic steps. These are heated from November - April inclusive. There is an outdoor shower. Meandering paths wind through gardens of Palms, Bougainvilea, Hibiscus, Oleander, Buddleia and other sub-tropical plants. At night, the gardens are illuminated bringing a romantic atmosphere to this special place. Utility Room: Washing machine, two scullery sinks, iron and ironing board and an adjoining, enclosed drying patio. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: One main clean on arrival and departure, towels changed once per week and for stays longer than two weeks additional cleaning.
