Overview

About the property

Apartment in Ryde on the lovely Isle of Wight. A Short Walk To Everything Ryde Has To Offer, Shops, Beach, Restaurants And Hovercraft Terminal

This top floor apartment has been a well reviewed and highly rated holiday let for some time. With views over the rooftops to the golden sands of Ryde, and the Solent beyond. Standards are high and every detail catered for, including quality linen to all the beds, towels and hand towels provided, just bring your own beach towels! Washing up is a delight, as you watch the container ships, yachts and ferries passing by on The Solent and you can see the top of the iconic Spinnaker Tower of Portsmouth. A trip across The Solent in the Hovercraft or Sea Cat is a must, to visit the historic dockyard and Nelson's flagship, Victory, and Henry V111's flagship The Mary Rose in its new state of the art site. Ryde town and the shops are but a short walk away, with the iconic Liz Earle flagship store in the main street plus other excellent shops, and with some good eateries, catering for all tastes and pockets, as are the supermarkets for food shopping. Ryde is a perfect base for visiting the wonderful Isle of Wight and all it has to offer and the apartment is a tranquil haven to return to each day.

BT infinity WiFi installed.

Dedicated parking bay in the car park to the rear.

The apartment is on the top floor, (easy stair flights) of a converted Victorian building. There are very grand old buildings on The Strand, a conservation area, where the apartment building is situated.

The apartment is within a 10 minute walking distance of the Hovercraft station across to Southsea.

Less than a 5 minute walk to the wonderful golden sandy beaches of Ryde and Appley Sands.

The apartment has its own dedicated parking bay, which is a real bonus as parking on street is time limited.

Worth mentioning that the pub in Simeon Street to the rear of the block and car park, has live music nights and music quizes on some Friday/Saturday nights throughout the year.

The apartment is well placed for all amenities, beach, shops in Ryde and the Hovercraft and Sea Cat ferries to Southsea.

About Deborah Elliott

I live in Hampshire, with husband and 2 whippet dogs.

Why Deborah Elliott chose Ryde

Living in Hampshire, the Isle of Wight has always been a 'get away' for a few days, or even longer, to blow away the cobwebs, so it was obvious that we had to purchase a property eventually! The apartment was ideal as we didn't need to cross on the ferry, just the hovercraft from Southsea. It was a no brainer really, top floor with amazing views from all the windows, a short stroll from the beach and shops, and of course the hovercraft, the convenience was the key. Ryde is the gateway to the Island, and is a graceful, wonderful old Victorian town with so much to offer by itself but if you bring the car across, and park in the apartments own parking space, then there is the whole Island to explore!

What makes this apartment unique

The benefits of staying at the apartment are the convenience if you don't have a car, as the transport system around the Island is the best from Ryde, and you can take the train to Portsmouth, and cross on the hovercraft. You are right by the best beaches, Appley beach being one of the best on the Island. The convenience of having the shops of Ryde within walking distance, and the restaurants. Planet Ice, and the bowling centre, plus the boating lake, and the children's play park are all a short stroll away. The little train starts and finishes at Ryde, and the main bus station is by the Hovercraft terminal.

However, the apartment is fresh and modern, with views from all windows, so where else would you want to be!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Well furnished, spotless apartment. Great views and a wonderful location for the ferry, beach and days out around the Island. Brilliant place for a family holiday. we didn't want to go home.

A very spacious, spotless, beautiful apartment, with stunning views from every window. fantastic location to explore the lovely Isle of Wight. The apartment has a great atmosphere and we were very comfortable here.

I have stayed at Sandlands twice now for the week of the Isle of Wight scooter rally and had a brilliant stay both times. The apartment is lovely and spacious, very clean and fresh, with all mod cons for a comfortable stay. The location is perfect.

Great apartment, centrally located

  • 5 of 5

The Strand is a quiet street in Ryde, but is very central to both the beach and the city center itself.

The apartment is great. Even though we were only two, we both appreciated two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The kitchen is well equipped, nothing missing. And - Simeon Arms, a nice and friendly pub, is located right behind the house.

In addition to the fact that the apartment is central to both the city and the beach, it is nevertheless good located for exploring the whole island, even for those of us who come without a car. The bus system is well developed and the buses have quite frequent departures. In addition, there are trains.

By bus from Esplanade you will easily reach both Freshwater or Yarmouth, Ventnor or Cowes, yes, the buses take you to all parts of the island. So, you have the possibilities to walk much of the coastal path from different points of departure.

Ryde has many restaurants, Michelangelo's is worth a visit, but if you want to experience a really gourmet dinner, you book at Thompson's in Newport - a truly exquisite experience.

We had a great week at Ryde and appreciated the apartment! Should we wish something, the bathrooms should have fitting rail to the shower head. Then we could adjust the height of the shower. No one under 175 cm can control the shower head.

A lovely, bright, well-maintained apartment that is very close to the beach and a short walk to the center of town. Deborah responds to inquiries quickly and was friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again should we return to the Isle of Wight.

We loved our stay at Sandlands. It was very well appointed , tastefully decorated and kept us warm in wintery weather.I enjoyed good walks along the beach and inland while my husband did the research that brought us there. The views are exactly as shown in the photographs.

Wow...super apartment and fantastic location!

  • 5 of 5

We (myself, Husband and 7 year old Daughter) were thoroughly pleased with this holiday home, it was a super find and the description is spot on! The apartment is very clean, well presented and very well equipped. Great communicaton from the owner Deborah before and after our stay. She made us feel very much at home.

We've been to Ryde before and love the area...the beach is just a few mins walk away as the apartment is a couple of roads up from the Esplanade, plus we had perfect weather!

I would highly recommend this apartment, Ryde and the Isle of White to anyone who wants a chilled out family holiday x

Owner's Response: Thank you so much, looking forward to having you back very soon. Ps (it's the Isle of Wight), that auto correct is a real nuisance. 😁

Location

Car: not necessary

Special interest holidays:

plenty of cycling, walking, riding, tree climbing, sailing and children's activities nearby.

Coast/Beach:

The huge sands of Ryde and Appley are within a 4 minute walk away, with the marina close by. A boating lake is a few hundred yards away. Large park areas, and bowling greens on the seafront.

Further Details:

There are a wonderful array of individual shops in Ryde, all within walking distance, as are the restaurants. Appley Sands beach is a short walk away, and there is a boating lake and children's play park and fun fair close by. Planet Ice skating Rink and ten pin bowling, and the bowling greens are all within a short distance, about a 10 minute walk. Further afield, there is Queen Victoria's retreat, Osbourne House, The Needles, Carisbrooke Castle, Blackgang Chine, The famous IOW glass makers and the IOW Zoo with its white tigers to name but a few!

Cross on the hovercraft and visit Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard for a great day out. See Admiral Nelson's flagship Victory, and the brand new internationally famous multi million pound Mary Rose Museum, housing King Henry V111's tudor warship that sank in the Solent and was raised from the seabed in the 1980's, and houses many fascinating artefacts from that period, showing a glimpse of life in Tudor times. A must see!
