About the property

Converted barn in Gaumier, nr Sarlat, Dordogne, France - A peaceful location, overlooking River Ceou, 10 mins from main tourist attractions, with Wifi.

An exquisite cottage in a peaceful location, with its own secluded pool, near to Sarlat (25 minutes in the car), Domme (15 minutes) and Gourdon (20 minutes). The property has stunning views, which can be enjoyed from the large terraced area, which overlooks the pool and has a wooden table and chairs for dining alfresco. The cottage comprises two bedrooms - a double and a twin - and a bathroom on the first floor and an open plan lounge/dining room and fitted kitchen on the ground floor. It is surrounded by beautiful French working farmland and breathtaking rural houses and buildings. There is Wifi and a television. The lower garden is large enough to play badminton and football on and there is a trampoline with a net which can be used at the guest's own risk.

Florimont Gaumier has its own winery - 'Vin de Domme' - where there is a tower giving panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. It is close to many popular attractions including the Dordogne river for canoeing and beautiful medieval castles in Beynac and Castelnaud. Also, Lascaux, famous for the Palaeolithic cave paintings is nearby, as well as the caves of Cougnac which also have prehistoric paintings.

Jules and Murdo Morrison. This is our holiday home and we absolutely love it here. We wish we could come more often but with work and school commitments, we are limited in time, so we thought we would like others to benefit from our beautiful house which is in such peaceful and inspiring surroundings.

Why Juliet Morrison chose Perigord Noir

As soon as we crossed the bridge over the river which meanders around the village we knew this was a special place. It is achingly beautiful, from the old French working farms which keep the charm of days gone by alive to the stunning views across the valley. We come here every year with our two children and immediately feel relaxed by the laid back pace of life, the welcoming villagers and quiet location.

The pretty stone cottage is a renovated cow barn. It is open plan downstairs with tasteful furniture. It is small but a real gem, with breath taking views across the valley.

The village is on a popular cycle route and because of its beauty it is a regular stopping point for passersby to stop and have their picnics on the tables and benches near to the river.

A picture framer and a bookbinder, with an adjoining cafe, have set up business in the village, adding interest. There is also a working church next door but one to our cottage.

There's a vineyard a 40 minute walk away, with a viewing tower and a great bar to have some cocktails. There are also the most amazing walks on the cottage's doorstep and with the River Dordogne just 20 minutes drive away, it is great fun to take out a canoe.

For us it is the tranquility of the cottage that we love so much. As soon as we arrive we take a deep sigh, relax and look forward to waking in the morning to the wonderful sound of birdsong.

What makes this barn unique

The property has a very private pool with a light for night swimming.

Sitting on the terrace you can look across the stunning valley, taking in the sound of the cows in the nearby field, tractors passing by and the odd gecko rustling in the undergrowth.

"We spent a lovely week here at this delightful little property located in a beautiful, and typically French village, well located to visit many of the highlights of the Dordogne. The property had stunning views and gorgeous walks and was very peaceful. We kayaked, went on long walks, shopped and when it got too hot we swam and sat around the lovely pool! The house was charming, clean and well maintained and we would definitely stay here again. Next time we will take bikes as there were plenty of local cycle routes."

Walking and cycling: there are several Grand Randonnees and cycling routes around the barn, one of which passes the front door.

Gastronomy: the area is renowned for its nuts, truffles and fois gras.

Canoeing on the Dordogne and the Vezère rivers.

Caves/cave paintings/grottes/prehistoric villages.

The area is of great historical interest - there are 1000 Chateaux in the Dordogne.

Coast/Beach:

There are a few beaches in the area along the rivers and lakes.

Travel:

The nearest airports are Brive-Souillac and Bergerac. However, Toulouse, Limoges and Rodez are only approx 2 hours away.

Distances:

The nearest bakery is in the neighbouring village, which is a 20 minute walk. The local supermarkets are 10 - 15 minutes away by car. There is a small cafe/book shop in the village selling soft drinks and sorbets and a church.

Further Details:

There is plenty to do with canoes, caves and chateaus on our doorstep. There is a plethora of restaurants, cafes and banks in nearby Gourdon and Sarlat, where there are also weekly markets. And for those who need a more cosmopolitan shopping hit, Cahors, Brive and Montauban are worth a visit.

The beauty of the property is that it has a tranquil location without feeling cut off, with neighbouring houses just steps away and working farmland giving the place a friendly, authentic and laid back feel.

A piece of heaven on earth.

My husband and I booked this property and took our two grandsons (aged 11 and 9 years). We all had a really lovely time. The cottage is very well equipped and was spotlessly clean. Being on the edge of a village it was extremely quiet and very peaceful. Amenities are a short drive away with Gourdon about 15 minute drive where there are excellent restaurants and supermarkets for supplies. Weather was beautiful so days were spent relaxing in the garden or in the pool, which was a definite hit with the boys. There are lovely walks around the village with cycle tracks for the more energetic. Booking was made extremely easy with the owner whom I found helpful and informative. All in all, this was a wonderful cottage and we had a wonderful holiday.. Would definitely recommend it to anybody.

Séjour très agréable !

Maison parfaite pour un couple avec deux enfants, décoration soignée, au calme, dans la verdure.

Un grand plaisir d'avoir une piscine pour soi, nos filles en ont bien profité!

La maison est proche de Domme, la Roque Gageac, et autres villages touristiques.

Nous reviendrons volontiers dans cette location.

Très calme.

Si vous aimez les endroits en pleines campagnes sans petits commerçants autour vous allez apprécier cette maison qui est propre, calme, et apaisante et qui est isolée.

Dans la description cela n'était pas indiquée qu'il n'y avait rien autour donc nous nous attendions pas à cela, et gros bémol aussi arrivé à la maison aucune prospectus pour nous indiquer ce qu'il y avait à faire aux alentours. C'était donc à nous de faire nos propres recherches ce qui n'est pas évident lorsque l'on ne connaît pas du tout l'endroit.

C'est dommage que vous n'ayez pas remarqué les dépliants que nous avions sur notre étagère avec des détails sur l'endroit où nos invités pourraient vouloir aller.
