The Old Parsonage is 6 bedrooms and sleeps 14/16guests. It is located in the hamlet of Galmpton, near Salcombe, Hope Cove and Thurlestone. Hope Cove is a mile away and has two beaches,one is dog friendly,good pub and village shop. The house has been extensively refurbished in recent years to provide a very high standard of accommodation for one/two families in a beautiful location. There is a large enclosed garden with lawns and glorious views.

Such a shame

House is really nicely laid out and decorated. The garden is large and well maintained with a great view over fields.

The location is good, with the lovely hope cove within walking distance.

The real shame was the house was not cleaned properly. This is not us being over fussy. The bedding had not been changed

before our visit, with hairs on pillows and the sheets smelling of sweat !! floors were dusty and the chairs stained.

Called the owner and left a message and emailed him but got no reply.

Disappointing... book with caution

We stayed here at this house for a week in early August the intention was for grandchildren and my ill parents to spend quality time together. I had read the reviews prior to booking this house and was anticipating some of the issues but unfortunately we seemed to have experienced even more. I will say at the outset that this house is a beautiful house, but there seems to somewhat a great reliance on the fact that it is a beautiful house to mismanage visitors.

In respects of booking I had to chase the owner numerous times to confirm whether he had received the funds that I had paid, there was no follow up from the owner unless I initiated. Two days prior to arriving I had not been sent basic details, how to get into property etc., again I had to chase the owner in order to provide this information.

On the day of arrival neither the internet nor the landline was working. The house is located in an area that has no mobile phone reception, so we were left with no means of making a call for an emergency or even booking activities for the children. The only method to make calls was to drive to Kingsbridge or go to Hope Cove where there is intermittent phone reception. From the Saturday of arrival until the following Thursday I was making almost daily trips out in order to call the owner to fix the problem. On the first report I was informed he would call BT to resolve ASAP the next day when he arrived back in the UK, when nothing was resolved I call him again the following day to be told because he had not heard from me, and so thought issue was resolved (despite there being no mobile phone reception, the landline and internet not working!). With no person close-by to manage the property the onus was me to go and chase the owner on each of the days that the issue had not been resolved. On a number of occasions the owner actually asked that I go and buy a device to fix his internet issue and he would reimburse me.

Beautiful Holiday Home

This is a lovely house in a beautiful setting. The house is a great size and easily housed six adults and three toddlers for the week - no easy feat! The garden is lovely, very safe for children and the view from the garden is fields and baby lambs.

During our stay there was only one area for contention and this was that the house could really do with a deep clean. We ended up cleaning the floors and we had a little trouble with the bins. Whilst we believe this needs attention, I would still return here as everything else was perfect.

Gorgeous place to stay!!

A wonderful house for a large group with a lovely homely feel, clean and very well equipped. The living/dining accommodation is open plan and very sociable but still allows privacy for those members of the group that need some quiet time. The bedrooms offer very flexible sleeping arrangements and therefore cater for mixed aged family groups, as well as groups of friends. We were a large party yet didn't feel like we were on top of one another. Off road parking is limited but road parking outside the property for a number of cars was not a problem for us. The garden was lovely, well kept, with a patio area and large lawn overlooking open countryside, perfect for children to play and for a BBQ. The house is in a beautiful part of South Devon near to Salcombe, with plenty to do and within a 15 minute walking distance of the child friendly beach at Hope Cove (there is a good car park too). There are also family friendly places to eat and drink. We enjoyed a very successful extended family holiday here last year, so much so we have booked again for this year!!

Family holiday home

Lovely house, very spacious and well equipped. Great location, a short walk to the Hope Cove and easy access to coast path. Our party of 4 adults and 8 children had a great week in the house. The only things for improvement would have been cleaner floors, simple kitchen things such as J cloths and tea towels and an instruction manual for how things worked and things in the locality to see and do.

However, it is a lovely house and we had a great holiday here

Disappointing

The house itself is a great size and in a nice location however our experience was far from luxurious. Shortly after our arrival it quickly became obvious by the disgusting colour of our children's feet that the place had not been cleaned properly. The floors were filthy, there was a lot of dust in the house and the downstairs bathroom in particular was dirty. We then discovered that the dishwasher didn't work, the shower in the master bedroom flooded and the sky viewing cards were missing. The owner did send someone to fix the shower and dishwasher, however the dishwasher then short circuited the electrics whenever switched on and this was not resolved, leaving us with 11 peoples worth of washing up to do every day for a week. There are also several bits of DIY that need to be addressed - not least the mouldy ceiling and damp walls in one of the upstairs bedrooms and some of the untended windows which leave the house unsecured. All of these issues were raised with the owner, who did offer us a discounted meal at his hotel but then didn't respond when we asked for compensation instead. We have been holidaying together as a group for more than 15 years and have NEVER had cause to complain, but as this was marketed as a luxury property with matching price tag we felt it appropriate to do so on this occasion.

There are many beaches to choose from. Hope Cove (5 mins) has two beaches, great for little ones. Bantham, sandy and good surfing,Thurlestone sands and many others.

Nearest railway station is Totnes, about 35 mins away.

Distances:

Hope Cove is 1 mile away, Salcombe and Thurlestone about 5 miles.

Further Details:

As far as eating out there great pubs - the Village Inn, Thurlestone, The Sloop, Bantham, The Ferry Inn, Salcombe and do try South Sands Hotel, Salcombe - its new and fantastic.
