Why Andrew Turner chose South Hams

Directions to : The Old Parsonage, Galmpton,Kingsbridge,Devon TQ7 3EY

The OP is just under 2 hours from Bristol. The easiest way , if you have not been here before is : When on A38, take TOTNES turn off, when approaching Totnes you need to take Kingsbridge sign, approaching Kingsbridge take the Salcombe Road, after about 4/5 miles you need to take the road to Hope Cove. When on this road, after ac ouple of miles (down then up !) you reach a T junction, go straight over (direction Hope Cove) and after a mile you are in Galmpton ; there is a left hand ‘fork’ road , take this and after an s bend the road straightens and the OP is about 200m on the left.. If you have got as far as the church you have gone too far.

There is a key box in the porch and the code is 1004.

A lovely house for a big group

  • 4 of 5

The Old Parsonage is a lovely house. Lots of practical space and nicely furnished. We had a great time with our friends and it's in an ideal place to explore the beautiful costal path and beaches. The communication regarding how things work was not good so a folder would be really helpful as we took some time to find out things like the heating. Also the house needs an overhaul as the shower was blocked, the dishwasher needs a service as does the Aga. Having said that we really enjoyed our stay so thank you.

Very disappointing

  • 1 of 5

House had poor parking space for multiple cars as the garage is locked. The door key was left in a safe box outside of the house, the code for which is online for anybody to find. Once we got into the house it was very cold as no heating had been put on prior to our arrival and we had no instructions on how to work central heating. There was no mobile phone service due to where the house was, and the broadband had been suspended so the WiFi would not work, and we were left with no means of making phone calls or messages while in the house. The house had not been cleaned before our arrival, some of the bed sheets had not been changed since the last guests and had hairs on. The sofas and chairs and floors were dirty and stained, and everything was dusty. The aga did not heat very well. The house has a strange layout, having to walk through one main bathroom to get to a double room and the rooms do not look as they do on the photos

Incredibly disappointing- do not waste time or money staying here.

  • 1 of 5

Arrived to find a dusty dirty cobweb filled freezing house. When it came to bed time bed linen had not been changed since last visitors. Indents still in pillows from last use, sheets covered in hairs, fluff and dubious looking debris. House advertised as having wifi- none. No mention in property description of having to walk through bathrooms to get to bedrooms, which is not ideal when sharing with people you are not that intimate with. Very disappointed.

PERFECT FOR A LARGE GET TOGETHER

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the OP for a family New Year get together - 12 peops and 2 dogs. Directions and access to the property was easy and accurate. On opening the front door we were greeted with a warm cosy atmosphere, the smell of furniture polish, and the added bonus of the 2 Christmas trees having their lights on ready for our arrival. What a perfect place it was - large, homely and well equipped. We all loved it there and didn't want to leave. We all had our own rooms when we wanted quiet time, and never a wait for a bathroom as with 2 showers, 2 baths and 4 toilets, plenty to go round. The communal space was fab and we thoroughly enjoyed big family sit togethers for all meals and party games. Plenty of comfy seating to go round too. We did all our own cooking and the kitchen was super equipped for all our needs there. Fabulous location for walks to beaches and coastal paths. We would not hesitate to book this property in the future.

Good property for a family celebration

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the old parsonage over Xmas. The property was ideal for us and the wonderfully mild weather helped us make the most of the area. It is very much a family property and one that has a comfortable lived in feel to it that allows you to relax when holidaying with grandchildren and dog - 12 of us stayed celebrating Xmas and my wife's 60 th birthday. The only negatives revolved around - the property needing a bit of an extra clean when we got there, some glasses needing stocking up I guess due to previous breakages and some bed linen looking as if in some cases it had seen better days. Only minor and I share them for your information. Nothing that stopped us having a fantastic Xmas and really enjoying our stay. Great location too.

Owner's Response: Hello The Old Parsonage is a lovely house I am a family person and have had some of the most amazing times here with family and friends. Such a shame

  • 2 of 5

House is really nicely laid out and decorated. The garden is large and well maintained with a great view over fields.

The location is good, with the lovely hope cove within walking distance.

The real shame was the house was not cleaned properly. This is not us being over fussy. The bedding had not been changed

before our visit, with hairs on pillows and the sheets smelling of sweat !! floors were dusty and the chairs stained.

Called the owner and left a message and emailed him but got no reply.

Owner's Response: This booking for some reason was not entered into the booking calander. I was in Central America at the time and was without Internet. My booking process has been changed to ensure this does not happen again . The guests are returning next year gratis .
