Lovely Villa nr river Aude with balcony, garden, patio. 8 ms east of Carcassonne

Overview

Property

Updated: 02-Dec-2016
House in Floure, Nr. Trebes / Carcassonne, Aude/Languedoc - Newly renovated, excellent decor and comfort. Convenient for the sea, Montagne Noire and the Corbieres hills.

Chez Magali is approached down a quiet lane which runs to the weir on the river Aude. Drive into your private parking space through lockable gates, walk up the path surrounded by Mediterranean shrubs and bushes, and enter the porchway. You will see your other grassed garden to your left. The patio has a barbecue, table and chairs, and outside lighting. To the right of the porch is the downstairs wc. Beyond the porch is the very large living-room which has everything - the kitchen, dining table and living area, all very convenient. A chandelier illuminates the dining table. Comfortable settees, satellite TV receiving UK programmes, DVD player, DVDs & cassettes, many books. Very well equipped kitchen. Antique beams cross the ceiling. Windows to the south and west.

Chez Magali has wi-fi.

Stairs lead to the 1st. floor & the one double (with en suite) & two twin bedrooms, bathroom & separate wc. One twin bedroom has a wide balcony looking towards the river. There are nice quiet walks round the fields. The village of Floure has little to offer except its wonderful Chateau restaurant for that special evening out.

The house is very well equipped and furnished, comfortable and convenient. It has proved to be very popular with visitors over the years. Now, eight weeks are let each year to the same three groups who return for their holidays. Access is easy by road and air.

Floure lies in the Minervois plain which stretches from Carcassonne to Beziers and Narbonne. It is overlooked by the Corbieres hills, with the Montagne Noire to your north. The Canal du Midi lies about three miles away, offering delightful walking or easy cycling along the tow-path. There are boat trips arranged at Trebes and elsewhere. The autoroute is about 3 miles away and it takes you quickly to Toulouse to the west or to Narbonne and the coastal resorts to the east. The nearest resorts are Narbonne Plage and Gruissan, but there are many more places to choose from - either St Cyprien and Canet Plage to the south, or Sete, Agde, Montpellier to the north.

Please get in touch with any questions. We hope we can help. You will not be disappointed, we assure you.

About the Owner

We are a domestic concern, not a commercial company, so our processes are very simple. Alexis and I live in Glasgow. Alexis was born in Edinburgh while I am from a Yorkshire mining town. We have both worked in the social services. Alexis has been the chief inspector of social work in Scotland and is now a panel member on the national enquiry into child sexual abuse. She wrote the report on CSE in Rotherham. I have worked in Macedonia and Albania with the Dept. of International Development. More recently I acted as a consultant to voluntary organisations in Scotland with the Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland. We bought our first house in France in 1989. We try to make them 'a home' rather than just 'a house'.

Great house in an ideal location

  • 5 of 5

This is a large, comfortable and well equipped house ideally situated for touring the area. The citadel at Carcassone is a short drive away, there is a lake with beach close by and the coast is less than an hour. We spent two weeks here and were sorry to leave.

Location

From the Owner

Chez Magali is simply a very nice house, comfortable, convenient and relaxing. It is in a lovely position so near the river and yet it is easily accessible. The Minervois plain has many small villages, all of them worth visiting. It offers wonderful walking and cycling country. We don't make claims for Chez Magali which are not justified. It is simply a very nice, welcoming house for an easy holiday, as our 'regulars' will testify.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Carcassonne at 16 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Floure at 1 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Carcassonne at 14 Kilometres Nearest Train : Carcassonne at 12 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : Trebes at 4 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Floure at 1 Kilometres Nearest Ski : Mijanes at 100 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Narbonne Plage at 64 Kilometres Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

Your nearest autoroute access is 3 miles away near Trebes. From there it is a quick easy drive round to the east of Narbonne (35 miles) where you pick up a country road (9 miles) leading to the nearest resorts of Gruissan & Narbonne Plage. Gruissan is scenic and interesting, with its castle, marina and houses on stilts by the sea. Narbonne Plage is an unpretentious, undemanding and relaxing resort. There are many resorts along the coast (e.g Peyriac de Mer) and the autoroute runs near them all.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Carcassonne airport about 10 miles away, almost all by autoroute. It is served by Ryanair which also flies to Montpellier, Beziers, Perpignan, Nimes(?), Girona - but please check. Otherwise Toulouse Blagnac airport is about 70 miles away by autoroute. As far as we know, there is no public transport service to Floure and a car is therefore essential.

Distances:

Floure has no shops, only the magnificent Chateau restaurant, a military museum & (we are told) a naturist camp. You will find supermarkets, banks, cash machines, tourist office, internet access, post office etc. in Trebes two miles away. There are boat trips on the Canal du Midi starting from Trebes, Carcassonne & Bram, and with some research you may be able to hire a boat for yourselves for the day. You must spend a good day in Carcassonne. There

is wonderful walking in the Corbieres hills.

Further Details:

All the basic facilities are in Trebes 2 miles away. Trebes has some good restaurants, but the choice is far wider in Carcassonne old and 'new' towns. The travel journal in the house will give you some guidance on this. A wide range of sports facilities is available at Trebes and Carcassonne - the staff at the tourist office by the Canal du Midi at Trebes will explain more. It is delightful to walk or cycle along the tow-path of the Canal, now a World Heritage Site. You can pick up the Canal at Marseillette nearby. A good Monday market at Mirepoix, and a more 'local' one in Lezignan on Wednesdays. Watch out for the numerous vide-greniers or jumble sales which are held at weekends in villages round about. Carcassonne festival is held in July, beginning with fireworks over the walls of the old city, very spectacular. There is an inter-commune piano festival in August where the standards are said to be very high. The Minervois plain between Beziers, Narbonne and Carcassonne has many small villages, all very individual and worth exploring. To the north you have the Montagne Noire, the last bastion of the Massif Central, and to the south the wild Corbieres hills. Both offer wonderful walking country, interspersed by many ruined Cathar castles. In the Montagne Noire is the vast cave at Cabrespine, one of the largest accessible in Europe. And there are other caves like it in the area. Further afield you can drive up the Aude valley to Limoux, Ales and Quillan, and for a longer day up to the Cerdagne, Font Romeu and Mont Louis. The drive to Andorra is spectacular but you may be disappointed with the town itself. A good day out would be to see the new bridge at Millau, stopping at various place en route. It is a spectacular sight. Of course, you must go to Carcassonne old city and look round its ramparts, fortifications, basilica, its moat and narrow streets. The 'new' town also has several ancient monuments and churches, as well as art galleries, museums and good shops.

Facilities

From the Owner

It is nice to stroll down the lane towards the river Aude, less than 100 yards away, and walk along the bank or round the adjacent vineyards. That's not unique of course, but we don't pretend that it is! Come and see and enjoy.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Chez Magali is one end of a long one-storey building. The house at the very far end may be let during your stay, but you probably won't set eyes on the people staying there - it is sufficiently far away and it faces the opposite direction. The arrangement is good for security, however, since the property is a little off the beaten track. Your patio, garden and parking lot are exclusively yours. A cot is provided. A high chair and push-chair may be made available on prior request. If there are problems in the house or grounds, a handyman will resolve them if you call him. He knows the house very well. Heating in all rooms is by electric heaters. Bring your own mobile phone(s). Lovely to sit on the balcony with your morning croissants looking towards the river. Outside: You drive into your private parking space through lockable metal gates. The parking space is big enough for one car, and possibly a second if you leave the gates open. Between the parking space and the house is the dining patio which has a table, chairs, barbecue, outside lighting. It is surrounded by Mediterranean shrubs and bushes. Loungers etc. are stored in two outhouses which also accommodate the central heating boiler and the second washing-machine. The patio is overlooked by the balcony attached to one of the twin bedrooms. Adjacent to the patio is a grassed garden which you are welcome to use. Away from the washing-lines, there is plenty of space for sitting out in the sun or for children's play. There is a pleasant walk (or morning run?) along the lane and the riverside and round the fields back to the house. There are fishing lots on the river bank. Utility Room: Opening onto the patio, an outhouse has the central heating boiler, the second washing-machine and various loungers etc. The boiler does not serve Chez Magali which is not centrally heated. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Sheets, pillow-cases and towels are provided without charge. Please bring your own towels for the beach or sunbathing and bring your own cot sheets. The house will be cleaned and linen washed before and after your stay, not during it.
