About the Owner

The property is jointly owned by friends Kath & Mark, Jo & Will. We all became great friends after spending a month sharing a house in Goa, India in 1996. We have all remained the greatest of friends and shared lots of travels and fun times since. In 2004 we had this mad idea that we’d build a house in Spain.

We ended up buying this beautiful plot of land and then spent a couple of years camping and sleeping in our hammocks on the land whilst we watched our jointly designed house slowly being built and coming to life.

We had a great time! No complaints! The house was great and everything was setup nicely. The kids loved the pool, we enjoyed the weather and the local establishments. It was very convenient located and the books and brochures in the house were very helpful. 5 stars!! Andrew Casper - June 2012.

Casa Mojo was absolutely lovely, you have a lovely villa in a beautiful place.

We had a fabulous week, I am sure we would love to visit again sometime. Brian McKee - July 2012

The house was idyllic and we had a fabulous time. Julie Holland - July 2012

We had a brilliant time at Casa Mojo. We really enjoyed the walks – GR7 from Pampaneiro to Canar, GR142 Lanjaron to Orgiva and the round town route.

Never had such a well fitted out kitchen area in a rental before – very much appreciated.Having your own almonds and olive oil is very cool!

Have raved about the property to loads of friends – I hope extra business comes your way from that. Alan & Margaret Russell - October 2012

Casa Mojo.

  • 5 of 5

My friend and myself booked Casa Mojo as a base to climb and canyon in Sierra Nevada. I loved the casa that much I booked to return in June, 2017. A lovely welcome pack, food and wine. The cupboards stacked with herbs and spices, great as I love cooking!

The pool was so enticing after a climb on the limestone cliffs. The gardens are a pleasure, fruit and nuts to pick, obviously dependant on the time of year but we landed lucky. Excellent place and the owners are fantastically helpful. Try it!

Idyllic hideaway in the Annapurnas

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful, relaxing holiday at Casa Mojo in June.

The villa is beautiful, very well equipped & maintained.

We loved exploring the surrounding areas & found some stunning villages with breathtaking views.

Our 6 year old daughter spent many an hour in the lovely pool, we picked lemons from the trees, searched for local wildlife & enjoyed evenings sat chilling on the terrace with a glass or two of rioja.

We had a lovely, relaxing holiday & would definitely go back. Casa Mojo is a hidden gem.

Thank you x

Falling in love for the second time!

  • 5 of 5

Our second stay @ Casa Mojo has been such a treat! It has only proven to us that we were so right to fall in love with the area- the mountains, the food, beautiful Lanjaron with its Barrio Hondillo and numerous water fountains, and obviously the house itself. This time around we came at the end of August- best time for picking figs and almonds straight from the trees (fresh figs+smelly cheese=heaven). Air was so full of wonderful, sweet aroma, the weather was fab-the pool provided a very welcome escape from the heat. Customer service that the owners provide is second to none! We loved every minute of our stay (yet again) and we will be back-for sure!

Owner's Response: Many many thanks for your lovely review Edyta. I'm so glad that you enjoyed your second stay at Casa Mojo and once again enjoyed the beauty of Lanjaron and the surrounding area. Late August and early September is also my favourite time to be at Casa Mojo with the abundant figs, almonds, the warm water of the pool and the sweet smells of the Spanish countryside. Thank-you for being such fantastic guests you will be forever welcome! All our best wishes Kath, Mark, Jo & Will x (Thank you for your compliment about our customer service, sorry I haven't responded to your review earlier. I thought I'd submitted it but it had failed to post!)

A Special Place

  • 5 of 5

Casa Mojo was a peaceful retreat for myself, my husband and two teenagers, especially following GCSE exams. The layout of the villa is perfect, and cleverly designed, especially the lounge kitchen/diner which has a view from every aspect. Cash Mojo is modern, clean, and has a great kitchen with every conceivable utensil. We even had fun making cappuccinos with the small milk whisk! Communication with the owners was faultless, fantastic customer service, which was really appreciated. Robin, the gardener, was also a font of knowledge, recommending lots of things to do. The local town of Lanjaron became a real favourite place to spend our evenings, very "Spanish", great places to eat, and the Lanjaron Spring Water tasted great (maybe more so because it was free, and straight from the mountains!). We never tired of the mountain views, conscious that we had to leave it behind eventually! Thank you for a great experience.

Owner's Response: Ruth Thank you so much for such a lovely review. I'm glad you enjoyed relaxing after the stress of exams. I'm thrilled you enjoyed the views from all angles in the living area. Our builder thought we were mad wanting so many but we couldn't choose where to put the windows, so we chose to put them everywhere. Thanks for your compliments regarding customer service and the plethora of kitchen utensils! Many thanks for being such wonderful guests. We all hope you come back some time in future. Kindest regards Kath, Mark, Jo & WIll x

Another fabulous holiday at Casa Mojo

  • 5 of 5

This was our second holiday at Casa Mojo and was equally as great as the first. We decided to return as we wanted to see more of the surrounding area which we had not done the first year. The house is perfectly situated and has everything you can ask for for a relaxing holiday. Plenty of amenities in the surrounding towns so you don't need to go far to shop, eat out etc.The weekly linen change half way through our 2 week stay was a nice touch as was the arrival pack of the essentials to get you started. Many thanks to Kath, Mark, Jo and Will for their wonderful holiday home. We hope to return againin the future.

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at casa mojo and have always been impressed. We love the position of the house and the way it is laid out inside, The views and the peacefulness is wonderful. The mountains are forever changing in colour and beauty. The pool is in a great position and is a real delight wether its for swimming, relaxing or cooling off.If you time your visits as we have done you can enjoy the lemons, oranges, almonds or figs.

We would recommend this to anyone who wants peace, tranquility, great views and a well maintained clean accommodation.

Two restaurants to recommend.

In Orgiva-The Pizzaria with its wonderful orange grove courtyard.

In Lanjaron-The new modern looking Restaurante Asador Parque.Amazing food at a reasonable price.

Location

From the Owner

We ended up buying this beautiful plot of land and building a house! We all spent a couple of years camping and sleeping in our hammocks on the land whilst we watched our jointly designed house slowly being built and coming to life.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beaches are at Motril and at the old Arab fortress town of Salobreña, a half hour drive through fabulous scenery to the south. Here you can eat in the excellent fish restaurants and visit the old Arab fortress. La Herradura, a little further along the coast, is in a dramatic bay, with some wonderful beach bars and restaurants.

Travel:

Malaga airport is 140km from Casa Mojo, approximately a 1 hour 30 minute drive and Granada airport only 60km, under an hour away. A car is highly recommended.

Distances:

Casa Mojo is situated 500m off the main road up a concrete track, in between the interesting towns of Orgiva and Lanjaron, both 5km away. Orgiva is a bustling place with a colourful Thursday market. Lanjaron is a noted mountain spa town and known as the gateway to the Alpujarras. It's home to a lovely shaded park and an interesting ruined Moorish castle. Both offer a wide range of shops, restaurants, cafes, banks supermarkets and Internet cafes.

Further Details:

The villa is named ‘Casa Mojo’ as the area it sits in is called ‘ La Mojoneras’, meaning ‘markerstones’, which are white stones on the land to mark out the borders between properties. ‘Mojo’ is a shortened version of this. The villa is set in an acre and a half at an altitude of 650m above sea level, with magnificent views of the valley and mountains, olive and almond terraces intermixed with oranges, lemons and pomegranates. Nearby is a wild rocky hillside, glorious with thyme, rosemary, gorse and broom from autumn to spring. The terraces look their best in the spring, dappled with poppies and borage amongst clovers and grass. You can weave your way along the terraces from top to bottom, or use the naturally crafted steps to take you to the lower terraces.

The pool is available for the months May to September. Because of its secluded position the villa and grounds are a perfect spot for complete relaxation. Please note: Young children must be supervised in and around the pool at all times. NO DIVING as the pool is not deep enough.

The swimming pool and nearby ‘acequia’s (irrigation stream) attract a lot of wild life. The arrival of the swallows, followed by the bee eaters is a joyful experience. Hoopoes dip over the terraces and eagles and other birds of prey swoop down from the mountains. A pair of eagles can often be seen soaring on the ridge above the villa. Lizards and geckos abound as well as intriguing praying mantis and numerous butterflies and moths.

The valleys and foothills between the Sierra Nevada and the coastal range are of great interest to walkers, birdwatchers, botanists, writers and painters. There are many activities including pony trekking, paragliding, golf and skiing. The last outpost of the Moors after the fall of Granada in the 16th Century, their Berber villages dot the mountain sides. The small towns of Orgiva and Lanjaron are both a 10 minute car ride away, where you can find all the shops and conveniences you will need.
