The cottage is part of a 16C Devon Longhouse, set in it's own garden with plenty of off road parking. A fifteen minute walk away from Soar Mill Cove and the Coastal Path. Sitting peacefully amongst farmland with lovely views towards the south. The pretty garden is totally secluded. A few minutes down the road is South Sands Beach where quests are welcome to free trips on the ferry into Salcombe Town.

About Patricia Tucker

We are Tim and Tricia Tucker and moved to Salcombe in 1986. We have owned and run the South Sands Ferry for over 25 years, alongside welcoming guests to our holiday cottage to whom we offer free use of the ferry during their stay. We are always pleased to meet new visitors and are happy to share our extensive local knowledge.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: The cottage is centrally heated, with internet access, a full sized cot is available on request. Unfortunately we are unable to accept dogs. Outside: The cottage has its own private entrance via a honeysuckle clad porch and is set in a pretty, secluded garden. Garden furniture and a barbecue are provided. From the garden there is access to the owners 4 acre field with its well established large pond which attracts many species of birds and wildfowl. Guests are welcome to walk in the field and use the picnic table by the pond. There is off road private parking for 2 cars/boat. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen and towels provided. Please bring own beach towels! The cottage is cleaned weekly.

Fantastic home from home in a wonderful location.

We had a brilliant stay here made even better by Tricia, our wonderful host. We were greeted with a smile and a home made easter cake!

The property is probably the cleanest place I have ever stayed, well looked after with a beautiful garden. The garden is enclosed which was ideal for our little boy and beyond that is a field with a pond and geese which delighted our son. We had to drag him away from the window the first evening!

The kitchen is well equipped, sofas and beds very comfortable. We also made use of the free ferry pass a few times which was lovely and something we perhaps wouldn't have done without having the pass!

We had a brilliant stay and enjoyed exploring the surrounding area. We were lucky with the weather but had we not been we wouldn't have minded staying cosy in the cottage. Thank you Tricia, we hope to be back soon!

Beautiful location. Mr and Mrs Tucker were both very welcoming and helpful. They were helpful on information for restaurants and places to visit. Ideal location for lovely costal walks. The cottage was clean, bright and well equipped.

We enjoyed our week in your farmhouse very much. Your cottage is charming, comfortable, wonderfully equipped, and with a delightful outlook. It more than met expectations. We were blessed with lovely weather and enjoyed visiting much of the beautiful countryside in the area, including the views from your ferry. We shall not hesitate to recommend to others. Thank you too for your warm welcome – not to mention the delicious cake!

Perfect Holiday Cottage

We arrived on Boxing day and spent a week in this beautiful traditional cottage. We could not have chosen a better place to stay and can highly recommend it. The location is just perfect to enjoy walking and exploring the stunning countryside, coast and beaches of South Hams a lot of which is on the door step. The cottage was spotlessly clean and tidy and is set in a very peaceful, beautiful and tranquil setting with a very well kept garden around it, which was beautiful even in winter. It is only a short drive to all the towns and villages and there are lots of great pubs and restaurants to chose from in the area. We particularly enjoyed the Church Inn at Churchstow who do a superb carvery on certain days. We enjoyed the local beach just down the lane and also Bantham Bay, Hope Cove, bIgbury on Sea and Thurlestone. Blackpool sands and Slapton Ley is also worth a visit.

The heavy rain we had at times didn't spoil our trip as the cottage was really warm and cosy and a great place to relax.

The owners were extremely helpful prior to and during our trip and we were very grateful for the delicious mince pies, nuts and tangerines left for us on our arrival which was very festive. Thank you very much Tricia & Tim we hope to be back soon. Jackie, Steve and Hannah

Cottages, Coves and Clifftops

Having read some very positive reviews on Owners Direct, we were not disappointed to find that Higher Soar Farmhouse was a perfect choice for our family holiday. The accommodation had plenty of room, heaps of character, was meticulously clean and everything we needed was provided. Outside there was a pretty private garden and the owners allowed us use of their field with a beautiful wild pond.

We enjoyed many family days out to the local beaches, including the popular Bigbury-on-Sea with a walk (or sea tractor at high tide) to Burgh Island across the causeway (great fast food cafe), to the dramatic rock arch in the bay at Thurlestone and a quieter evening visit to the fishing harbour at Hope Cove. An early morning walk to Soar Mill Cove, including spotting buzzards, kestrels and peregrines, was a real treat.

For something different, we also enjoyed the inland estuaries at Kingsbridge with its child-friendly restaurant serving great pizzas at the Crabshell Inn and also the causeway and nature reserve at Aveton Gifford (great play park in the village centre). Further East, we enjoyed a pleasant sheltered walk down to Start Point lighthouse and the atmospheric ruins of the deserted village at Hallsands. We would also recommend visiting the pebbly beach and lagoon at Slapton Ley and broad seafood menu at the Start Bay Inn in Torcross.

Salcombe was the place to experience the real ‘boating’ feel especial arriving by the owner’s ferry from South Sands. The more choppy return was immensely enjoyed by our son who could have stayed on the boat all day!

The rugged beauty of Dartmoor was an easy hour’s drive, where we enjoyed the waterfall at Lydford Gorge and the wonderful panoramic view of the moors from the church at Brentor.

But our favourite place became Bolberry Down with its fantastic views along the coastline and finding lizards in the gorse. We had a superb meal on our last night at the Port Light Hotel with excellent service from the staff and a great wooden play park for the children.

In short, the farmhouse was the perfect base for a range of family activities in the South Hams, the owners were very welcoming and helpful, and we would happily return in the future.

Just wonderful !!

Can't really but into words how amazing this places is , the cottage is very clean with plenty of storage and all the things you need , all rooms are very good size with lots of space and very peaceful , lovely views from all rooms. Lots to do , amazing walks with fantastic views , lots of beautiful beaches , sailing , cycling ,windsurfing , ferry rides and more eg all on your door step !!! We had the best week ever and really didn't want to come home and that's with bad weather ! we will be definitely be coming back if Tricia and Tim have us , ( who were very friendly and helpful) can't wait to come back , feel jealous of Tricia and Tim who live in such a wonderful part of the country .
