The Garden Flat has been described by guests as charming, in a brilliant location and so beautiful. Accommodation is very spacious, a large sitting room overlooks the flower filled courtyard at the front of the flat.

The flat has been tastefully restored with luxurious furnishings, whilst retaining many of its Victorian original features. The kitchen has a dining area which seats four people and has everything you need if you enjoy dining in.

Thirlmere is located just 15 seconds walk to the beach, on the outskirts of New Romney often referred to as one of Kent’s best kept secrets. Quiet and peaceful, yet only 20 minutes drive to Hythe and Camber Sands. The historic town of Rye is just 30 minutes away. Littlestone has easy access to all amenities, with many excellent restaurants in New Romney and Hythe for eating out.

About the property


The coastline enjoys a unique micro-climate which makes it one of the driest and sunniest places in Britain. The area has a stark beauty of its own, and also has unique wildlife, which is visible at the Nature reserves at Rye Harbour and Dungeness. The area around Littlestone is steeped in history which includes Dover Castle: Discover its labyrinth of secret wartime tunnels built deep in the White Cliffs of Dover. Kent Battle of Britain Museum: The most important collection of battle of britain artefacts on show in the country. It has its own unique steam railway the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway which runs along the coast. This narrow gauge miniature railway is a great attraction for visitors. The coast provides the best sandy beaches in the South East of the country, with shallow water allowing safe access for children.

Notes on accommodation: This 4 storey Victorian town house is split into two. Main house has 6 bedrooms, two bedrooms have showers and sinks. Bathroom, Shower room, separate toilet on first floor of main house. Large kitchen dining area. Dining room has seating for 16 people. The main bedroom, king size bed with a shower and sink, it overlooks the sea with far reaching views of the English Channel. Victorian bedroom, double bed. bedroom 4, daybed which converts into a double bed. Bedroom 3, king size bed with shower and sink. Bedroom 2, double bed. Bedroom 1, single day bed with TV/DVD The bedroom in the garden flat has two three foot single beds, which may be used as a queen sized bed. The sitting room has a large double sofa bed. Large Kitchen/dining area in Garden Flat. Two courtyards at front and rear Shower room. Flat is self contained and has its own exit to the street and to the rear courtyard. It can also be accessed internally should both house and flat be rented at the same time. Outside: The Garden Flat has access to the front courtyard. Both courtyards are available to guests who rent both the garden flat and the main house, those guests may also use the barbecue in the rear courtyard. outdoor furniture is available in both courtyards. the owner is delighted to offer guests use of their beach hut. Use of beach hut is however subject to discussion with the owner at the time of booking. there is a small charge for this facility. Both courtyards are private and are surrounded by various flowering plants.

Good location, accommodation let down by poor maintenance.

On arrival we noted the following:- broken wardrobe, broken chest of drawers, broken and stained blind. Very dirty oven, and under equipped utensils and glassware. No instructions re appliances, heating or local amenities. No keys provided for yale lock on kitchen door. We also had to provide all bed linen and towels which was unusual for the price.
