Situated in the Perigord-Limousin natural park, this property is close to several airports - Limoges (45 mins), Bergerac (90 mins) and Bordeaux (2 hrs) and the TGV train (Angouleme 1.5hrs). An enjoyable 2 hours drive will bring you to the wonderfully scenic Dordogne River valley with its many historic towns and chateau. In the immediate area there are two swimming lakes, canoeing, tennis, tree aerobics, fishing, karting, horseriding, bowling, golf, caving, mountain bike trials and numerous walking paths (there are 9 from the house). Regular markets, fêtes, parades, gastronimal fayres and many more local events run in the area throughout the holiday season.
I live in Australia with my teenage son. I work, but we will spend time each year in France, as we love its relaxed lifestyle and lovely scenary.
About the house
Our converted barn is situated in the tranquil setting of the Perigord-Limousin natural park, about 8kms from Nontron. The house is comfortably renovated with a hot tub in a private walled courtyard, sauna, gym, large garden and fishing lake. 2 fishing rods and 2 adult bikes are available for use.

The history, ideal climate and relaxed country lifestyle drew me to the area but the mixture of beautiful panoramic views, forest and farm land caused me to buy with a view to residency in the long term.
The best of all worlds - the property is conveniently located between airports for either that short break or longer stay. It is within walking or riding distance of the nearest village for those morning croissants, yet far enough away to be peaceful and relaxing. There is plenty to do at the house if you want to stay and relax in comfort but there are plenty of activities and attractions in a 2 hours radius if you are keen to explore.
The property is a beautifully modernised old barn with all the comforts of home. The house has 3 good sized bedrooms with large windows looking out over the garden. The living area is huge and the stone walls keep the property cool on hot days. Close to the village of Abjat and 10 mins from Nontron where the large supermarkets are. A car is definitely needed to get around though.
The house has most things you would need. A well stocked kitchen and plenty of towels. The hot tub was lovely and the sun loungers in the garden an added bonus.
A few niggles with the property.
1. The shower heads. A massive build up of lime scale and dirt. They could have done with a soak or a good scrub.
2. Cobwebs. Lots of cobwebs with dead spiders and flies.
3. Lots of lights and lamps with no bulbs or broken bulbs.
As I said, just niggles. We would definitely return to this property.

For booking enquiries, please contact Robyn Bell.Bookings are generally for 2 night weekends or weekly (Sat to Fri). A 20% non-refundable deposit (direct transfer to a French bank acct in Euro only) is required on confirmation of booking availability. The balance is payable (same method) no less than 4 weeks before the accommodation commencement date. Directions and key collection details will be provided when the balance rental is received.
The preferred change over day is Friday. Guests are requested to vacate by 11am.
Notes on prices:
Linen provided. Towels Euro3 per towel. Euro60 cleaning at end of accommodation period. Basic shopping can be arranged on request, reimbursement on key collection.
20% non-refundable deposit needed to confirm booking. Balance due 4 weeks before start of stay. Owner will provide bank account details for payments when a reservation is sought. Breakages to be paid for.
