No.12 Victorian Townhouse in Whitby, North Yorkshire - Central location 2 mins walk to the beach and 5 mins to centre of Whitby

The House, built in 1858 by George Hudson, the visionary developer of Whitby’s West Cliff, stands proudly on a street once trod by Bram Stoker and Lewis Carroll. A Victorian town house, it offers the discerning family the best of old and new, with modern facilities but still maintaining its character right in the heart of Whitby. The house is a pebbles throw from the beach, near to Captain Cook’s monument. Looking to the right, out of all the front windows you can see the sea and the old pavilion booking office, now Clara’s Tea Room. Although located in the heart of town, the house has both off street parking and a private back garden for sunbathing and barbecues away from the hustle and bustle or just relaxing whilst listening to the seagulls swoop overhead. No.12 was fully refurbished in 2008, and redecorated again in January 2014. The house has everything you need for a fantastic stay.

About the Owner

We have been together for 11 years, getting married a little over four years ago in a helicopter whilst flying over Las Vegas. For the last 4 years Whibty has been our home from home, and we finally moved up hear permanently in early 2011. We feel genuinely priviledged to call Whitby home, and we hope that our love and knowledge of the area will help our guests have a great time and go home sharing our enthusiasm for this part of North Yorkshire.

Wonderful, cosy home from home...

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful short break here in May. The location of the property could not have been better. Turn right outside of the front door and within a minute's walk you are breathing in bracing sea air with a fantastic view of the abbey. Turn left and within 3 minutes walk you are at the start of Whitby's quaint streets, shops and numerous pubs/bars.

The house was spotless, equipped with everything you need and great for all ages - including my 86 year old Mum.

We would highly recommend as great value for money and would love to return.

Location

From the Owner

We bought No.12 in 2007 and spent the next 8 months fully refurbishing the house with the expert help of Julie's Dad, Jim, a retired Joiner and Builder. For the last three years we have spent as much time in Whitby as we can and both No. 12 and the town have become very dear to us and our family, to the point that a few months ago we decided that the time was right to move permanently to the area.
