About Henry Visconti

We bought the Chateau 12 years ago and decided to allow other people the chance to enjoy this very historic chateau as much as we do. The Chateau has been restored and we have kept all the original old features whilst installing all the modern conveniences for everyday life. It has a wonderful family feel and all guests especially children feel instantly relaxed upon entry.

Why Henry Visconti chose Perigord Vert

Why this property ? It is a Rental Property with a difference. Like the idea of self catering because it costs less. This Chateau has its own Chef and Maid whose services are included in the price are there to ensure you have a real holiday. The staff are on hand for medical emergencies for example. They can help with sightseeing tours, wine tours, party celebrations etc. The Chef can handle all allergies and dietary needs. You can organise in advance a birthday cake, wine tour or perhaps a band. We do not charge extra for this planning service. Food is payable at the end of the week upon presentation of receipts directly from the shops so it costs no more than self catering. Bring your own wine or allow us to buy it in for you.

Event Planner is on hand to help with planning a wedding or perhaps an anniversary celebration or perhaps just hire the venue and organise your own party. We have a large function room capable of accommodating 100 people please enquire for the price. A church nearby for the blessing. Outside catering to accommodate up to 100 guests.

Notes on accommodation: The accommodation is 5 star with all the possible luxuries one would expect of a top class hotel. The free chef and maid service enables the guest to concentrate on family time and not worry about the shopping or cleaning, cooking or washing up. The chef will shop for you in accordance with what you wish to eat, this service is free of charge and the guest just pays against receipts thereby managing a budget. The eating areas inside the house are rarely used by the guests who much prefer the romantic settings of the pool side or the exotic gardens. The accommodation is quite extensive in the living areas of the house which enable the guests to escape with a book out of the midday sun or during a childs quiet time. The childrens rooms all have monitors installed which facilitates security issues and just gives parents a peace of mind. Naturally the products in the kitchen belong to the client and the clients help themselves if they so wish. The maid and chef can be asked at any time. Outside: There are extensive gardens surrounding the house within which areas there are numerous eating facilities, the poolside area is directly in front of the pool and seats up 12 adults around a large mosaic table, there is a music centre here with a Bose system too for those who have their particular music on their smart phones. There are two further external eating areas which can seat up to 16 persons. There is a barbeque. The swimming pool was designed with children in mind with Roman steps but is large enough for adults too 10x3 Mtrs. The pool is heated and this is the sole extra charge of the property a charge of 30 euros per day. Having said this the pool heating has only ever been needed twice during the summer period in years. The pool is walled and has a locking gate and is under video if required. It is very private and not shared except with fellow guest who have travelled with the main booking person. There is a trampoline, swings etc for children. Utility Room: This is also fully equipped and again the laundry is another of the free of charge services offered by the house. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels, linen and pool towels are provided by the house and are changed weekly. The maids service is free and the house is cleaned daily along with the making up of beds. Heating of the pool is charged as well as additional heating when required. Other: Alongside the kitchen is a further breakfast room leading into a formal dining room. There is an outside folly-Wendy house where the children love to play. A further play-room upstairs for children who need some quiet time.

Beautiful chateau in lovely garden setting. Warm, responsive hosts with delicious fresh food. Highly recommend!

Owner's Response: One of the finest principles of the hospitality industry is to have the finest guest, also. By this I mean a party isn't always about the place but more about the people. When this house receives guests of fine quality which also reflected in the fine quality of the surroundings and hosts then it is destined to be a successful venue. As with all ""get-togethers" a tango comes to fruition when the dancers are in complete sync. It is always a pleasure to host a loving and caring family, to see same enjoy quality time together, without the pressure of the normal "self-catering venue", who does this who does that which invariably invites , sometimes heated debate. Close family ties and united values prevail. Not having to lift a finger when on holiday and just relaxing and enjoying the quality, unhindered, time speaks volumes for those wishing to catch up and relax. Made more simple by the quality of the guest, too. Sheila Hanson and her lovely family would make it difficult for any venue "to not be delighted" with its guests, a breath of fresh air accompanied by that old fashioned but those e'er loved, good manners and excellent etiquette, made the family very easy to look after. Welcome back here any time.

Perfect for a family holiday with young children

  • 4 of 5

The chateau has three ensuite double bedrooms and plenty of additional space for children. It has beautiful grounds, a lovely small swimming pool, a trampoline and a table tennis table. We always eat al fresco with scrumptious food provided by our hosts Henri and Laura Visconti.

Beautiful château in Riberac

  • 5 of 5

Rarely do you get to experience the kind of hospitality on offer at Les Etoiles.

Henry and Laura are consummate hosts in every sense and took such good care of us during our week with them that by the time we left we felt like old friends. The house and gardens are beautiful and the food was superb - it was such a treat to be cooked for every day.

We would love to return and couldn't recommend more highly.

Owner's Response: The secret of all hosts is e'er reflected by the qualities of the client. A good time can be had in the worst place in the world with a good host and quality clients, fortunately our clients were of the highest quality, enjoyed the finest food and wine and, as is usual, were and are, always treated as kings and queens. Client is king.

This was our second year running at Château des Etoiles as we love it so much, we're trying to see if we can go again next year too. It is without doubt the most relaxing and enjoyable holidays we've ever had. Everything is taken care of for you, the cooking, housework (like dish washing and laundry), food shopping, special requests (a special birthday evening meal for example). Henry, Laura and any of their staff are a joy to be around (their daughter Isabella was great while we were there, especially with the children) they can't do enough to make your stay as perfect as possible.

The château has 8 bedrooms available, most ensuite, with a large family bathroom separate. There are 2 childrens bedrooms packed with toys and books to entertain them. These bedrooms could easily accommodate 5 children between them. The other 6 rooms are all doubles/twins and are all beautifully decorated and furnished. Our super king size bed was incredibly comfortable both times we stayed.

The facilities/amenities are extensive at the Château, everything you would want for babies (cots, highchairs, pushchair, bouncy chair, microwave steriliser, hand blender, travel cot/playpen, monitors, changing station, baby bath) and children (TV, dvd library, games console, toys, drawing things, monitors, toilet seats, steps, baby gates) outside entertainment (trampoline, Wendy house, bikes, table tennis, swings, secured heated pool, pool inflatables, extensive walled gardens with gate).

The food at the Château is amazing, Henry and Laura do a fantastic job, each night you let them know what you want the following day and they do the shopping and cooking of it. They will make suggestions if you want their input too and special requests aren't a problem. Then at the end of the week they present the receipts for the food and drink consumed for you to settle the bill. This year Henry was happy to work to a budget for us too which was very good of him.

In terms of dining space, there is a large formal dining room, a breakfast room and an outside terrace. We also made use of several areas in the gardens setup for eating too.

The setting for the château is stunning, the gardens are beautiful but also safe for the children to play as they are walled and gated, as is the swimming pool so the children can't access it unsupervised.

This is simply the best 2 holidays we've ever had and we can't wait to return, I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone. Thank you Henry and Laura!

Owner's Response: Well, naturally we are always pleased with such positive feed-back but as most of our clients do return year in year out, it is difficult to know who to thank. We pride ourselves on being as flexible as is possible and always strive to meet special request and keep as close as is possible to budgets, so we are pleased that our clients take the time to pass this message on to prospective newcomers to the house. Thank you.

My Happy Place

  • 5 of 5

We cannot recommend Chateau des Etoiles highly enough. Our family gathering went flawlessly and there are a lot of us (16 plus 2 newborns) coming from Australia, Spain and the U.K. The staff were so warm and welcoming, and they worked tirelessly to ensure everything went smoothly. Their local knowledge was impressive and they were extremely helpful enabling us to visit the many interesting places in the area from prehistoric caves, canoeing adventures and to the lovely Lake Jamaye for the beach and swimming. There is so much to see and do in this area that we have resolved to make a second visit. The Chateau is a delight, spacious rooms but with a warm homely feeling so it was very much like visiting a friend and not a hotel. The chef cooks to demand and the food was superb all week especially the desserts. It was such a pleasure, not to mention relief, having the domestic details taken care of - no shopping, cooking or clearing up - bliss. The gardens were glorious but entirely kid friendly, we loved the pool and the table tennis facility. Chateau des Etoiles is a very special place, a romantic secret buried in the French countryside where you could stay for the duration without ever leaving the grounds, but also central to many of the marvelous places the Dordogne is justly famous for. Cannot wait to go back.

Owner's Response: Of course, it pleases this house to receive such a glowing and kind report from its guests, the house strives to supply and pander to the requirements of its guests. The finest accolade is always the return visit of its clients, nearly 80 % of whom re-book nearly every year, if not within 2 years, it is always the aim of the house to meet the special requirements of the clients, especially birthdays and anniversaries, usually a special cake is baked and on occasion a live band is also requested as was the case here. We look forward to future visits from this family. Ideal guests.

A very special place

Chateau des Etoiles

My wife and I wanted to marry in Europe but circumstances were not right at the time; we were able to achieve this goal last year and decided to renew our vows in France.

We were after a location which would provide us with an authentic French ambiance and tradition, yet giving intimacy in wonderful countryside surrounding to enjoy our special day. We looked on the internet (of course!) and found the Chateau des Etoiles. The chateau's proprietors, Laura and Henry, were kind enough to make an extra special exception to facilitate us on this date (they are only open between April and October). The Chateaux is near the village of Riberac, in the Dordogne, with the backdrop of rolling lush countryside hills, it has the environment we were after. The chateau itself is not too large but ideal for our group fourteen people. Throughout our stay, everything ran like clockwork, and it seemed that everything we required had been anticipated and provided. The flower arrangements were beautiful, and the chateau, garden and salt water swimming pool provided a lovely backdrop. The food was superb for and well received by all guests. Laura and Henry, (both excellent chefs) provided a wonderful menu. The photographers were truly amazing and were able to capture the best photos and moments around the Chateau. It was a truly enjoyable experience. We were able to take short sightseeing tours to some very interesting sites as well. We would highly recommend Chateau Des Etoiles to anyone wanting to capture their special day or vacation in France.

Thanks again

Owner's Response: We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at the Chateau. It was such a pleasure to be able to accommodate you and your guests considering it was out of season and the staff who normally work at the Chateau were not there. Having said this, the quality would not have changed with our normal staff who are all very well trained and of an egalitarian nature. We also thank you for you recommendation from which we have already booked a party of 16.

Car: necessary

Special interest holidays:

Although the property is in the countryside just a fifteen minute drive takes the guest to a wonderful run lake resort, the resort is free, is fully monitored by lifeguards, has numerous cafés and restaurants, a beautifully maintained white sandy beach and 2 very well equipped playgrounds for tiny tots and older children.

The house is able to accommodate children of any age including babies, providing all the necessary equipment I.e. high chairs, sterilization kit etc.

The nearest airports are Angouleme & Bergerac these are less than 40 minutes drive from the house. Bordeaux airport is circa an hour and 15 minutes depending on traffic/times of day etc. The ports of Callais Le Havre and Cairns are all within a maximum of 9 hours from this area of the Dordogne.

If one wishes to visit the many interesting place in the Dordogne, such as, the caves or medieval towns or chateaux then a vehicle is essential.

The main town of Riberac is the closest, just a few minutes walk along the House's private rd. The medieval town of Sarlat is an hour away the town of Brantome called the Venice of the Dordogne is 1/2 an hour away, wonderful canoeing centre and superb restaurants and one of two cathedrals built into the mountain side quite spectacular, the lovely town of Aubeterre boasts the second of these cathedrals with crypts. The town has a wonderful array of typical French cafés and eateries.

Further Details:

The area of the Dordogne abounds with things to do, locally there are wonderful horse riding stables and for beginners too, tree climbing with harnessing, of course, golf. Plenty of cafés restaurants, banks and shops. Interestingly Riberac is considered to be the capital of the fois gras production in France. Duck is on the menus at nearly every eatery in the Dordogne. Wine tasting trips to some of the world's finest vinyards are a stones-throw and abound in the areas surrounding the house. Activities in the town of Riberac include superb tennis courts, canoeing and lovely walks.
