Stunning Villa With Pool In Peaceful Olive Grove

Overview

Property

Updated: 26-Nov-2016
Villa in Elice, Nr. Penne and Pescara, Abruzzo, Italy - Fantastic Mountain Views And Only 20 Mins Drive To The Beach

Casa Toti, so named because it is on Via Toti which was named after the Italian poet Gianni Toti (1924 - 2007) was completed in October 2011. It is a new build but built in the Abruzzeze style in old Maiella stone. Inside and out are beautiful arches and stunning use of stone. The ground floor has vaulted ceilings and the entire house has terracota tiles with marble detailing. Beneath the traditional features is a totally up to date house with underfloor heating, photovoltaic energy panels and every mod con!

About the Owner

We are Jane and Sophie. Sophie lives in Hampshire and Jane in Wiltshire with lots of teenagers between them! Jane was a music teacher and Sophie, a photographer but now we enjoy running Casa Mimosa and Casa Toti as holiday lets as well as organising and catering for 4 or 5 yoga weeks each year. Casa Toti

What a jewel! Casa Toti was everything and more. Everything was as the description described and more. The villa was spacious, clean and bright, we couldn't wait to unpack and get in the pool. Plenty of local information was at hand being compiled by Jane in a handy folder. We certainly felt totally relaxed and chilled. Having teenagers it can be difficult to get the villa that has everything - this certainly did!

We ate out a couple of times in restaurant's that were recommended in the folder, they don't do 'small portions' so be careful when you order!! They also tend to eat later on in the evening.

I would highly recommend Casa Toti for a family with teenagers or a group of friends, as the location has something for everyone.

We are looking to return next year and taking a longer break this time.

This villa is delightful. Set on a hill top amidst an olive grove, it has wonderful views. It has been built quite recently in the best vernacular architectural style, to a very high specification, to be both attractive and highly functional. Great attention to detail and thoughtfulness has been employed in its construction, fixtures and contents. This is the best equipped villa I've ever rented. The pool is glorious. The villa is safe for children and has a ground floor room suitable for the disabled.

The nearest local village is not very pretty but has a shop, some restaurants and a welcoming ice-cream/coffee/bar all within walking distance of the villa (up hill on the return!). The nearest medieval hill top village, again within walking distance (tiring in the heat), is pretty but we only found one coffee shop and a bakery. You definitely need to hire a car at this location.

I would certainly consider returning.

Location

From the Owner

We first saw this stunning plot of land in 2009 and decided it was a must have - over 5 hectares, including over 100 very old olive trees and lots of woodland and a lake at the bottom of a ravine! Building started in February 2011 and the house was ready to move in to in October 2011. It has been designed and project managed by the same wonderful geometra as Casa Mimosa and there is the same attention to detail. It has every mod con and the ground floor has been designed with wheelchair users in mind. Every aspect has a stunning view - jaw dropping at every time of year.

Coast/Beach:

The closest beaches along the Adriatic sea are about 20 mins drive from Elice. There is something for everyone in Silvi Marina and Pineto - from busy beaches with restaurants and loungers to quiet unspoilt public beaches with the backdrop of beautiful pine trees. The sand is always clean and the sea usually calm and very blue!

Travel:

It is essential to have a car in this area as there is little public transport.

Pescara Airport is 30 mins drive from Casa Toti, Ancona - 2 hours and Rome Ciampino 2 hours 15 mins.

Elice 1 mile. Penne 6 miles. Pescara 28 miles.

Further Details:

Elice is a beautiful hilltop village with a post office, bakery and little supermarket.

Madonna degli Angeli - a 20 minute walk downhill has 2 restaurants, a small supermarket, 2 bars, one of which makes and sells the best ice cream in Abruzzo.

There are lots of other medieval towns within easy reach - Atri, Citta St Angelo, Penne etc. All have market days and fantastic festas throughout the summer months - local food, wine, music and dancing.

The Abruzzo national parks are the biggest green areas is Europe. There are vast areas to be explored with hiking and cycling trails plus of course all the ski resorts in the winter months. The main resorts are about an hour and a quarter easy drive from Casa Toti.

Facilities

From the Owner

Because Casa Toti was a new build we were able to make it as environmentally friendly as possible. Large amounts of insulation keep the house warm in winter and cool in the summer but in extremes of temperature the underfloor heating system which doubles as a cooling system in the summer, keeps the house at a constant ambient temperature. So much better than air con!
