About Edward Harland

I live and work on our farm here in France, where we grow organic vegetables. We moved here in 2002 to work on a small farm, and then decided to stay and create something of our own. My wife, myself and our two teenagers have all been working on restoring and developing this fantastic place into a comfortable and peaceful family home.

Edward Harland purchased this farmhouse in 2004

Why Edward Harland chose Esterel - Fayence

The property was an old vineyard, which had been left derelict for many years. It has plenty of land and space , with fantastic views all around , which is what enticed me to buy the place and restore the existing bastide...a monumental task which has really become something beautiful and satisfying. We love the area with its rugged terrain and rock formations. It also offers the conveniences of the nearby village and shopping areas, with great access to the beaches and motorway, which pleases my wife!

What makes this farmhouse unique

You will enjoy the rural beauty of the farm land, which gives the impression of being very remote. There are many attractions for nature lovers, ramblers and sportsmen, as well as entertainment at the nearby lake for the kids. The beautiful Argens river runs alongside part of the property, offering wonderful bird life and a tranquil canoe ride in the evening.

We also offer catering services!

A lovely traditional farmhouse ideally located for the coast and inland exploring. Much enjoyed by all with the bonus of a wide range of wildlife from hummingbird hawk moths to the star attraction, nightangales!

Thank you!

Breathtaking farmhouse in a planet of its own

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Ed and Melinda for a magnificent week in Bastide des Planets.

Ed and Melinda did the catering, decorating and hosting of our 40th birthday party

for 70 people in their enchanting glamp site close to the house. It really was the party of a lifetime. What a find! Ed and Melinda are friendly, helpful and worked tirelessly to organise the party and glamps for our guests.

Surrounded by a charming woodland, brimming with birdsong, on the banks of the Argens river.

This unique farmhouse is beautifully restored with views directly onto Roquebrune for the perfect sunset. Very comfortable, clean, full of character and well equipped, including BBQ, outdoor dining spaces, pool and garden, it exceeded our expectations.

There's so much to see and do here from kayaking, beaching, hiking, croquet, wining and dining or just lounging by the pool. An unforgettable week in a magical place, many thanks

What a fantastic find!

  • 5 of 5

This was ideal accommodation and area to celebrate our daughter's 30th birthday. There were 10 of us ranging in age from 2 to 56 and it was perfect for all of us.

The garden, house and pool provided lots of spacious and well equipped accommodation. The owners were extremely helpful and accommodating.

Definitely need a car to get to shops, beaches and other places.

Fantastic beaches 20 minutes away and other places of interest.

Definitely need mosquito spray and cream for the evenings.

We would not hesitate to recommend this place to our family and friends for a holiday in the South of France.

We spent many hours playing croquet, swimming, sunbathing and enjoying the garden.

Thanks for a lovely holiday.

John, Carolyn and family.

Fantastic Family Accomodation

  • 5 of 5

We're Two families with grand parents.Large beautiful garden with pool, BBQ area with fountain. The farmhouse was clean and renovated to a v. High standard. Cool during the hot day. Stone floors. Oozing character. Bedrooms were elegant and bathrooms to good standard and air conditioned which made sleeping easy. A family home with books games for children, Tv and all mod cons. Really private. Fantastic for two families. Kitchen equipt With everything you might need beautiful!!! A gem. The pictures don't do the place justice on the website. So much more to experience in the farmhouse. Good taste through out.. Thank you for such a memorable holiday and for all of the extras you provided for us. Definitely recommend to my other family and friends. They have been blown away by the photographs😲 The Pool was great to cool off and children played. Lidl 3 minutes by car nearby. Mossy spray needed for sitting out at night. Many thanks.

Two weeks in Provence

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a super fortnights stay at this property as part of a celebration of a special birthday of my daughter. This a a lovely rustic farmhouse that has been beautifully restored and furnished by the owners ( who incidentally were charming and helpful) The extensive garden gave ample opportunity for eating outdoors with a super gas BBQ that we used on several occasions. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you might need including a big cooker, dishwasher, washing machine and tumbler dryer. Comfortable beds, lovely showers, towels for the bathrooms, and big towels for use round the pool. Food locally was fab, we ate several times at Le Basilic 26 euro set menu was brilliant value. The bakers down the road would not be out of out of place in the smartest parts of London. If you need some exercise after all that food and wine we played table tennis in the garden and boules

of you can always cool off in the pool.

Great holiday and accommodation

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 6 stayed at the Farmhouse for a week in September 2014 and had an absolutely fantastic time with great weather.

The accommodation and grounds really exceeded our expectations and we spent a lot of time enjoying the pool. The kitchen was well equipped and the house was spotlessly clean. The décor was lovely and the house has retained its traditional character whilst having modern bathroom suites. There was a 2 year old within our group and the house was child friendly too.

The farmhouse is well located and a 20 minute stroll took us into the village of Roquebrune where there are a number of shops, bars and restaurants. We also walked to the nearby lake where there are activities such as pedaloes, mini-golf and canoeing.

We enjoyed a trip to Sainte Maxime which was approximately a 20 minute drive, and then caught one of the boats that frequently go over to St Tropez where we indulged in a lovely (but expensive!) meal. We also did another trip to the nearby town of Frejus with its Roman amphitheatre.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property and we are considering another visit in the future.

The Hardy and The Seymour families.

Just Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this lovely property in the last week of July. We are a family of 7 including 2 children aged 3 and 5. The property exceeded our expectations and was set in beautiful, peaceful countryside. The pictures on the website don't really do the property justice! We all enjoyed watching the bats, the dragonflies and the amazing tree frogs and we even spotted a bee- eater.

The property had everything to meet our needs with numerous outside seating areas to catch the sun. The pool was adequate with plenty of comfy sunbeds and shading to suit all. Ther were terraces off of 2 of the bedrooms with beautiful views.

The property was well maintained with a mixture of old and contemporary. Everything was spotlessly clean and welcoming, the chilled bottle of wine in the fridge was most welcome. There were plenty of towels including beach towels.

We visited various beaches all within about 20 mins, took the ferry From St Maxime to St Tropez and ate out once locally.

We shopped locally at Intermarche and Liddls and our son used one of the house bikes to cycle to the local Boulangerie to get fresh bread in the mornings.

I would thoroughly recommend this property and wished I could have stayed longer than one week.

Special interest holidays:

We are interested in starting up painting and cookery courses for the off season months where we will offer two double bed and breakfast rooms or possibly a studio. The light here, as everyone knows is extraordinary and the spring and autumn periods are our favourites. That coupled with the glorious views and beauty of the surrounding countryside would make this a super experience.

to the beach takes 15 minutes depending on the time of day, longer in the summer. There is a choice of either St Aygulf or Les Issambres locally or further afield, 30 mins or so, St Maxime and St Raphael. St Tropez is 20 mins by boat from St Maxime, by far the best way of getting there in the summer months. Getting there early is a good tip but St Aygulf is the most spacious with long sandy stretches of beach, the water is clearer at Les Issambres, however, as the water is calmer.

Nice international airport is 45 mins by the A8 autoroute. Les Arcs and St Raphael are the nearest train stations for links from Paris. These are both 20 mins drive from Roquebrune. It takes roughly 8-10 hours to reach here from Calais, 762 miles. Toulon/Hyeres is 1 hour away.

Roquebrune village is 2km, St Maxime is 25 kms, Nice is 60 km, Les Issambres 15km, St Tropez 40km and Frejus 11km. Aix en Provence is an hour down the A8 autoroute.

Further Details:

The village of Roquebrune is 15 minutes walk where you will find an assortment of local markets, bakeries, restaurants. The Rocher of Roquebrune towers over the lake where you rent boats or water ski or just enjoy the scenery from the cafe restaurant.
