Delightful Old Stone Cottage In Picturesque Lakeside Village

Overview

Property

Updated: 21-Aug-2016
Cottage in Jugon les Lacs, Dinan, Cotes D'Armor, Brittany, France

Our gite is only 45 mins drive from the ancient (ferry) port of St Malo and some 15 mins west of the medieval town of Dinan. It is a 3 mins stroll into the beautiful village centre with the mini-market (for your grocery needs), 2 boulangeries, 2 bars, 2 good restaurants and a pizzeria. It is also a 3 min walk to the large lake for walking, fishing, sailing, canoeing and peddleoing etc! There is a large well equipped heated outdoor public swimming pool adjacent to the lake. Also there is a local tourist office with much info on what to do and see both locally and further afield. Just 30 mins away to the north are the beautiful beaches, cliffs and little harbours of the Emerauld Coast. There are also several golf courses within a short drive, some good equestrian centres for trekking and riding lessons and a nearby kart track for the 'big boy' drivers! There are several good large supermarkets 15 mins drive away, at Dinan to the east and Lamballe to the west.

Location

From the Owner

Jugon les Lacs (petite cite de caractere) is well known for its beauty and character. Our little cottage is just three minutes from the centre where you will find boulangeries, a boucherie, bars and the very popular charity shop. It is also just a short walk to the beautiful lake where you will be able to partake in fishing, sailing, walking or just watching if you prefer. In the winter Jugon is quite quiet but in the summer it is quite different with plenty organised events to entertain the locals and the tourist alike. There is also a local tourist office where the staff there will advise you on where to go and what to see locally. Jugon is ideally situated to travel by car to all the larger towns, the beautiful north coast and the many tourist attractions, zoos and parks etc.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

There is a local tourist office with helpful staff to advise on what to do and see, both locally and further afield.

Coast/Beach:

There are many beautiful sandy beaches to find within a 30-40 minute drive. St Jacut (plenty of rock pools!) and Erquy (beautiful and lots of sand!) are among our favourites. The north coast of Brittany is a very beautiful area to visit with many places of interest. There is a local tourist office with much info on what to do and see both locally and further afield.

Travel:

Our nearest port, St Malo (just 45 mins from here), is serviced by Brittany Ferries and Condor, it is also possible to travel via Cherbourg, Caen, Le Havre or Roscoff. Calais & the Channel Tunnel are about a 5 &1/2 Hr drive away. Ryanair fly to Dinard (from Stansted and Luton).

Distances:

How to get here: From Dinan keep on the N176 - direction St Brieuc.

(It is 18km from Dinan to Jugon les Lacs.) Take the exit for Jugon les Lacs.

At the top of the exit turn left (stay on the right hand side of the road), go down towards the village. Turn left into the Market Squaree turn right at the far end of the square and then left at the cider house, go straight up and on to the main road towards Plenee Jugon. No. 12 is on the right about 100 mtrs from this junction.

Further Details:

For the not so nice days there is an ice skating rink and indoor bowling in St Brieuc (approx. 30 minutes drive).

Dinan, a medieval town is a must for a day out with its well preserved castle, quaint streets and buildings. The famous Rue Jerzual is a very steep narrow lane down to the old port of Dinan but the way back is not for the fainthearted!(pushchairs not recommended!). There are many good eateries.

St Malo is not just a port, but a beautiful town in its own right. The walled city was heavily bombed during the second world war, but has been wonderfully restored and is full of sights, good restaurants and shops. There is also a very good aquarium to visit.

Dinard is a famous resort worth visiting.

Further afield another 'must visit place' as is the stunning Mont St Michel, built out in the bay, this town is topped by an amazing abbey, the spires of which can be seen inland for miles (Warning: you have to pay an entrance fee when you get to the top of the steps!). The tidal ranges are world famous and it is said the incoming tide can beat a galloping horse! It's about an hours drive from the gite.

There are many places to walk and cycle locally. Fishing, canoeing/sailing and "pedaloing" on the lake can be arranged. Market days vary, but Dinan on Thursday and Dinard and St Brieuc on Saturday are probably the largest and well worth a visit to buy typical Breton presents and souvenirs.

Facilities

From the Owner

Our beautiful little cottage is ideally situated for walking around Jugon and driving to see other attractions a little further afield. It has its own garden where you can sit, relax, have a glass of wine and watch the local wildlife nearby. You could always put some sausages on the BBQ. It was Sean our friend who encouraged us to let out our cottage and as he has his own gite and looks after a couple of others he was an easy choice to look after ours. He has a very good reputation with the other gite owners and many visitors have left appreciative comments after their holidays As your point of contact in Jugon, Sean will meet, greet and try to ensure that your stay is trouble free. He also looks after the reservations. We sincerely hope you have a wonderful holiday, Margaret & Laurie
