Farmhouse in Ste Alvere, Dordogne, France - Peaceful Location In The Countryside

Set in the heart of the Perigord Noir, this property offers peace and seclusion as well as easy access to the nearby world heritage sites of Lascaux, Perigueux and the medieval town of Sarlat. It has a beautiful swimming pool and is set in 3 acres of grounds with views across the surrounding countryside, terraces and woodland walks. Canoe hire and boat trips are available nearby on the Dordogne and the Vezere. The nearest village is Sainte Alvere where the famous truffle market is held every Monday from November to January. In Summer there are wonderful markets every day of the week in local towns together with excellent restaurants. The property has 5 bedrooms and three bathrooms. There is extensive ground floor accommodation including a large family kitchen, sitting room with satellite television and a separate salon. A table tennis table, barbecue and children's swings are provided.

"I can say unreservedly it was wonderful. Les Chauffours met all our expectations, we found the accommodation excellent and just right for 2 families, we each had our own facilities which were super. We have stayed in a number of villas and cottages but we could see that Les Chauffours was a "loved family home" which contained everything we could possibly want, particularly the kitchen which is something my wife is keen on. The grounds were excellent, just right for the children, the swimming pool was also super, the largest in the area."



"It is one of the best equipped houses I have stayed in on my many visits to France. The children had a wonderful time in the pool making the most of the beautiful weather and enjoyed canoeing on the rivers and visiting the prehistoric sites and castles."

Outside: The pool is 13 by 6 metres, the largest in the area, is heated and is in a secluded and sheltered part of the garden away from the main house. It is protected by an infra-red alarm system. There is a large terrace area and several places to sit in sunshine or shade. There is a built-in barbecue to the rear of the property. Utility Room: Washing machine and fridge. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included, the property is cleaned after each rental.

Wonderful Dordogne

Stayed at Les Chauffours in September and so it was still warm enough to make use of the huge [heated] pool, the house was lovely and tastefully furnished. We were 4 adults but it would also be a great family holiday house. Loads to do locally and some great restaurants, although best to book, there is a brilliant wine shop in the local town. Would definitely go back.

Stunning Farmhouse

This gorgeous home is a real find. The farm house is beautifully appointed and very well equipped. We had many a lazy evening on the terrace watching the sun go down and sipping some of the region's delicious wines. There is plenty of space for 2 families to share and the games room keeps children and teens entertained should they wish to move on from the delights of the pool. There are gentle walks through lovely woodland and plenty to explore further afield. I can't recommend this home enough and I for one will certainly return.

Dordogne Charm

We have just returned from a wonderful house in the heart of the Dordogne. A fabulous experience for the whole family. Our trip included numerous outdoor activities - walking, biking, canoeing, cave and chateau visits. We would highly recommend visiting Perigeux, which offers a wonderful Gallo-Roman Museum and a Cathedral which is a World Heritage site on the Route of Santiago de Compostela. After which we treated ourselves to a wonderful meal at Bistro La Verriere. We visited the prehistoric caves at Lascaux and The Chateau de Castenault at Domme. Nearby towns we visited included Limeuil, Issigeac (check for market days) & Belves - all completely enchanting and worth a visit.

We would recommend dining at Chez Julian located beside Paunat Abbey. Also highly recommended is Le Vieux Logis, in Tremolat.

Another fabulous outing was to Josephine Baker's home Chateau des Milandes.

The nearest airport is Bergerac, half an hour away (16.3 miles). Bordeaux is approximately one and a half hours by car. Car is essential, approximately 8 hours from Calais.

Further Details:

Very convenient for the prehistoric sites of the Perigord Noir. The Dordogne and Vezere rivers are close by where you can go fishing or canoeing.
