About the property

House in Lalinde, Bergerac, Dordogne Aquitaine, France - 3 Minutes From Lalinde And Walking Distance To Sauveboeuf Village

'La Tuiliere' has the feel of an exclusive country estate with electric gates and superb quality furniture and fittings, but with all amenities close by. Bergerac airport is twenty five minutes. The house has three/four bedrooms, TV room, three bathrooms (one en-suite) with separate toilets, a large kitchen diner, prep kitchen, utility room, and stunning living room with beams, original working fireplace and French doors overlooking the river. Also overlooking the river is the covered terrace leading off the master bedroom. There is a further terrace outside the kitchen with electric awning and table and chairs seating ten. In the five acres of grounds is a large secluded heated pool with sun loungers, a table tennis table, football goals and thirty fruit trees. This is a fishing paradise with the river at the front, the canal at the rear and a stream running through the grounds. Cycling is superb along the river or the miles of canal towpath at the rear.

Stunning with French Charm

  • 5 of 5

A local couple, Sonya and Jon, checked us into the house and were very helpful with the local knowledge of restaurants and where to go. We stayed for a week in September and were completely overwhelmed with the charm of the house and its stunning views of the river.

The kitchen is fully equipped and just outside the kitchen door is the patio with BBQ and table and chairs. Inside is very comfortable and well furnished to a modern standard. Amazingly though, it still maintains it character, due to the large fireplace in the lounge and also the thought into the way the house is furnished.

We were very relaxed sitting in the lounge in the cool September evenings but equally so outside during the day. The garden is very large and well maintained with many fruit trees. The pool is a good size and long enough to swim some lengths.

My favourite place is the terrace outside the main bedroom. The morning views of the river and wildlife are especially tranquil. At sunset, it's the best place to relax with a glass of wine and listen to the fish jumping and be quick enough to see them!!

Thoroughly recommend it and will hopefully go there again!

Such a beautiful house with amazing grounds

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week in the October half term with my 2 children and my parents. We had just a wonderful week relaxing. The house is very homely and fully equipped. My children had a wonderful time exploring the grounds and playing and they even went in the pool (crazy). Even though it was later in the season it was wonderful to see the grounds during the autum . The pictures if I'm honest don't do the house justice it's a beautiful magical place and we have some wonderful memories. I highly recommend the property.

Simply the best!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in several houses in France but this was beyond question the best. The farmhouse is beautiful and has been adapted well to fit its current rental purpose. We had wonderful weather so particularly enjoyed dining on the patio next to the BBQ area. The electronic canopy sheltered us from the sun and the very occasional shower. The grounds are vast and open opportunities for swimming, table tennis jogging etc. Some bikes are provided but others can be rented locally. With the river on one side and the canal on the other there is no shortage of cycle and jogging paths, and the views are spectacular. There are lovely villages in the area with good food on offer. We rented the house for three weeks and invited family and friends to join us. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Jon and Sonya, who look after the property certainly deserve a special mention for their cheerful friendship and helpful outlook. The proof of our satisfaction with La Tuiliere is that we have booked for another three weeks this year, because it is, simply the best.

We booked for a week and left wishing it had been for longer. The house is a typical old Perigord two storey building that has been added to over the years. A vast garden and heated (if necessary) swimming pool for the idlers, and 4 bikes for the more active. Other diversions are a ping pong table and other games. The pool has a solar heated shower.

The master bedroom has a large terrace overlooking the river, and with the mist on the river in the mornings and the swans gliding by it is quite enchanting. We loved sitting on the terrace in the early evening reading and watching the birds on the river, including kingfishers.

The garden has numerous fruit trees and near to the house is an enormous walnut tree. Red squirrels race around the trees in between picking up the nuts.

A huge kitchen is perfect for family meals, a large wooden table would comfortably seat 10 people, the only minor niggle being the two long benches rather than chairs, which makes it a bit of a struggle to come and go to the table.

The kitchen is amazingly well equipped, more like a home than a holiday rental.

A huge sitting room with comfortable chairs and sofas and an enormous fireplace for cold weather. A TV room leads off from there, and which doubles as another bedroom, and French windows lead out to the lawn in front of the house.

Loads of parking but oddly only one front door key and remote control for the gates, which could lead to problems if you have a few in your party going separate ways in different cars. Just agree on which flower pot to leave the keys in!

The bathroom arrangements are a little odd, as the expected en suite in the master bedroom is actually on the landing, to be shared with another double room, and there is another double room upstairs with a small tub and hand held shower with very restricted headroom. Downstairs there is a toilet and another shower room for anyone in the TV room.

An English couple, Jon and Sonya, check you in and out, and live nearby in the event of any problems. They know the area well and are happy to give advice on restaurants, markets etc.

We would happily return and have no hesitation in recommending La Tuiliere.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay at La Tuiliere, it really is a magical spot. We appreciate your feedback and have decided to provide guests with another key and gate fob. Regards the bathroom issue, we don't say anywhere in our details that the master bedroom has an en-suite. It is only two feet from the bedroom door so not far away!! The en-suite to the 3rd bedroom has recently been added at some expense and our return guests are delighted with it. We feel that three bathrooms and an outdoor shower are more than adequate for a house that sleeps 6/8 people. Many thanks for the lovely comments, Sue and Matthew Hall
