The Bothy is the ideal location for those people who want peace and quiet as it sits in a south facing elevated position in front of a wooded hillside with wonderful views over Swaledale. Private garden and patio with a BBQ. Private undercover parking. WiFi. 2 miles to Reeth with all facilities such as 2 general stores, 3 pubs, all of which serve food,3 teashops, gift shops, post office,a hotel and bakers. The capital of Swaledale is Richmond only 12 miles away, which boasts a Georgian Theatre, and The Green Howards Museum, and of course Richmond Castle built in the region of 1078 and around the castle a lovely walk over looking the river Swale.

About the Owner

Swaledale Cottages is a small family run business which has been in existence since 1977. Over those years we have had several properties in different locations in the Dales and now proudly offer three cottages in lovely locations in or near the village of Healaugh (nr.Reeth) in Swaledale. We have a policy of continuous improvement so all of our cottages are both pristine and well equipped. The three properties cater for 2, 4 and 6 people and we have moved towards en-suite facilities. Although all our cottages are 4 Star perhaps the best measure of the satisfaction of our customers is the large number of customers who return again and again. We have customers who have been coming to our cottages every year for the past 20 years and now children of customers are bringing their loved ones.

Compact, peaceful and off the beaten track

The property was clean and well kept. In a very peaceful location and, although off the beaten track, close to a good number of places to have lunch or an evening meal. Take sufficient groceries for your stay as there are no supermarkets nearby. This wasn't a problem for us as we know the area well.

The meals at The Punch Bowl in Low Row were superb but the menu was not changed daily as their advertising brochure suggested. However there was a good variety of starters, mains and desserts and no problem with catering for our dairy free requirements.

Secret Hide-away in Swaledale

For an away from it all holiday, The Bothy proved to be ideal. Set in picturesque Swaledale, a dale with a character all its own, the location was quiet and very relaxing. The apartment was very warm and cosy with all anyone would need for their stay. There were interesting places to visit locally and in the surrounding area, the roads were good though obviously somewhat restricted in the dale, but travelling over the moor into Wensleydale afforded more open vistas and increased the number of places to visit should you wish. A warm welcome awaits the visitor to this lovely part of Britain.

Very attractive little bothy. Very comfortable.

I couldn't write much in the box above. The only criticisms were that the Wifi was suboptimal and is presumably placed in the adjacent property. Also not used to having to keep an eye on the electricity meters! But lovely bothy.

We had only 2 full days there but managed a couple of long walks despite changeble weather. Also went to Leyburn for half a day. The Bridge in at Grinto was good for a meal.

In response to your comments; unfortunately Mr. Cameron's promise of bringing super broadband to the English countryside has not reached us here and BT and TalkTalk seem unable to improve their coverage to us. We have only ever known the speed that we get and have learned to live with it but for someone who has the latest high speed service we assume that you see a difference. You are so lucky to get a good service in other parts of the country, we envy you. We hope to welcome you back in the future.

Ideal cosy cottage for couples

Beautifully decorated and well equipt cottage. Really comfortable bed. The setting is in the most lovely part of the dales with superb walks all round. Loved our welcome bottle of wine. So peaceful which is what we both needed. Would highly recommend this cottage to couples who want to get away from it all, but with plenty of beautiful villages in near reach.
