About Michael Burton
Michael and Kathryn have two children, John and Melissa.
The house does refect the family - the kitchen is full of useful (and some might say useless) kitchen equipment and cookery books, as food is a major passion for the whole family (and job for Kathryn). Melissa and Kathryn like to enter the cookery competitions
The modern gas barbeque and patio area are Michael's territory
John has a love of the outdoors including fishing, and gardening. It's likely that you'll see John at some point tending has vegetables in the kitchen garden. He always enters the vegetable competitions at the Garrigill gala
Michael Burton purchased this barn in 2009
Why Michael Burton chose England
We visited the area a number of times with friends and just loved it.
The scenery is beautiful at any time of year, in any weather, but the walks up to the waterfall in Winter are breathtaking, and it's wonderful to watch the salmon swimming up stream in the Autumn literally 50 metres from the house.
We've always found the people in Garrigill extremely welcoming and there are regular events - craft fairs, fireworks nights, Garrigill gala, carol singing, and even quoits in the Summer
What makes this barn unique
The local pub has open fires and does wholesome home cooked meals, as well as having musical evenings, and various other activities
The possibility of renting a private pool by the hour has always proved popular with our family and friends. You do need to book in advance. It's a lovely way to relax after a busy day before heading back to snuggle in front of the log fire

We have stayed in this cottage before and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This time was no different, apart from the weather was fantastic! The cottage is very well maintained and has everything you need with the added bonus of the lovely log burner for a cozy evening in. The cottage is situated in a lovely little village. Its only a five minute drive into Alston and an excellent base for exploring the beautiful surroundings whether you are walking or driving. We would recommend this spot to anyone who wants a chill out/walking holiday.
We got to Alston late at night. The instructions were so poor, we couldn't find it in the dark, and ended up staying for the first night in a YHA! found it in the morning, but there is no clear sign on the door.
The house was sweet, but basic things like, no bin bags, when you wash up the water from the sink pours into the storage area, and one role of toilet paper. When you know there are 6 people coming for 2 nights, toilet paper, rubbish bags, good sign and description on how to find it (besides, the GPS will bring you to the door...)
Lovely cottage and pretty area!
We really enjoyed our holiday. Our 9 year old daughter loved the area and her bedroom and our dog loved the walks. Brilliant days out locally. The topping in the cake was our visit to Ashill waterfall and the walk underneath it! We loved visiting hadrians wall and the local towns also. We would love to visit again. Thanks!
A very pretty cottage in a beautiful village.
The property was lovely and the log burner was very welcoming on a very wet and windy day. The property is very well maintained and both the internal and external facilities met our needs perfectly. We will definately be returning to your delightful cottage sooner rather than later.

Really enjoyed our short break. Beautiful location, peaceful and such a change from home. Kids loved it as there is a huge field right next to the cottage that they loves to explore. We went on lovely local days out and at night relaxed in the cottage. It has everything you need
