Originally a stone-built stable, Bridge View Cottage is now a charming hideaway for couples. With its upside-down layout, the roomy living/dining room/kitchen upstairs has a window seat to make the most of the lovely views towards the beck and hills beyond. Tastefully decorated in reds and bronzes, the cottage has a luxurious feel, emphasised by the attractive woodburner and high quality kitchen. A roll-top bath, with shower over, provides a great place to relax after a day's strenuous hiking, with many walks straight from the door, in Swaledale, the most northerly of the Yorkshire Dales. A dale so lovely there is even a song about it, 'Beautiful Swaledale'! Sitting on a bench in the garden, you can watch the swallows wheeling above or snuggle up in front of the stove and relax with a glass of wine. Sorry, no pets. Short breaks are welcome at any time, including 2 nt breaks, which are £15 less than 3 nt price. NOTE, please send Enquiry, instead of Request to Book.

I love to come to Swaledale whenever time permits. In a stressful job, I find a holiday cottage lets me unwind and get away from the everyday cares in the peace and tranquillity of Swaledale. I like to get out and walk when I'm in Gunnerside; even if the weather isn't too good, it blows the cobwebs away and the scenery is spectacular whatever time of year. I'm sure you will enjoy the cottage for a holiday as much as I do!

A lovely cottage in a beautiful location

Bridge View Cottage may not suit people who need plenty of room to 'spread' but if you like 'cosy', this place fits the bill. It's warm, welcoming and ideally placed for walkers like ourselves. There is the luxury of a large bath and also the log burning stove in the living room is an added bonus. Maybe one extra easy chair would be a useful addition as the tiny two seater sofa can be a bit of a squeeze if you want to stretch out but this is a minor quibble-and there's always the very comfortable bed in the ground floor bedroom. The owners have thoughtfully provided a number of plug-in heaters to supplement on chillier days and there's always the pub a few yards away if people fancy a change of scenery or a restaurant meal.

The cottage was spotless on our arrival with a plentiful supply of wood, coals, lighters, clean tea towels etc. And access to the property could not have been easier.

As is the case with so many of these small villages, the use of a car is essential-as are trips into Reeth for tea shops and groceries. Muker does have a general stores but it was closed on the one day that we happened to be there.

This is outdoors country and so the walking routes are superb.

peace and tranquillity .

The cottage looked very homely from the outside with a neat economical garden. The inside was charming with pitched pine beams and a multi fuel stove . The bathroom has been designed in a beautifully rustic way and we found the open plan kitchen to be well equipped.The Kings Head across the square was very handy and the walks are wonderful.The bus service isnt great but if you have a car at hand then most of the upper dales are within easy reach.While the cottage is a bit small we would highly recommend it to couples for holiday breaks and weekends away breaks too.

We had a great time and would certainly think about coming back. ( maybe in the winter when we can put the fire on ).

Bridge View Cottage Gunnerside

A delightful cosy cottage for 2 in the middle of Gunnerside. Everything you need. Living room/kitchen on upper floor with lovely window seat to sit and watch goings on in the village. Comfortable bedroom on ground floor with adjacent bathroom with shower and bath for much needed soak after walks around the village up Gunnerside Gill and onto the moors. Definitely recommend this property and we will be back I'm sure.

Location

I owned another house in Gunnerside before buying Bridge View Cottage, but found it too big for just myself. Gunnerside is only about an hour and a half from my home, so is easy to reach if I want to pop up at the last minute, but I love the fact that although it's less than 20 miles from the A1, it feels like a world away from the worries of my working life. The landscape is so spectacular in Swaledale, I never fail to be amazed by its beauty. The meadow flowers in May and June are so lovely and prized by photographers the world round. Swaledale's most original features, however, are the numerous stone barns and walls, the most prolific of all the Yorkshire Dales. I like to stand on a hill and look down on the patchwork of fields and pastures - in sun or snow alike!

Contact Judith Dower to book. Week bookings are Sat to Sat and short breaks are welcome all year round. If booking more than 8 weeks in advance, a non-refundable deposit of £90 is payable. If within 8 weeks, or for a short break, the full amount is payable on booking. Short breaks are available, please ring to book; 3 nt price is 70% of week price, 2 nts are £15 less than 3 nt price. Festive bookings are from Saturday to Saturday, ie 20- 27 Dec, 27 Dec 13 - 3 Jan, 15. Sorry, no pets.

Changeover Day:
Week bookings are Sat to Sat, but we try to be as flexible as possible, also with short breaks, so please contact Judith to discuss your special requirements.

Notes on prices:
3 night short breaks are 70% of the week price. Please contact Judith for prices of short breaks of different lengths. We accept 2 nt breaks, they are £15 less than the 3 night price.

From the Owner

Bridge View Cottage is situated in the middle of Gunnerside (which, to be fair, is not huge anyway!), so is only yards from Ghyllfoot Tearoom. The tearoom is also a bistro on Wednesday and Saturday evenings, so if I don't want to cook, I can just pop over there (Ghyllfoot does takeaway curry on Monday nights, too, and frozen bistro style meals to heat up in the comfort of your own cottage!). The King's Head pub has just reopened, and there's a really warm welcome there if you want a good local pint (and good food, too). There's also the mobile fish and chip van, which calls on Friday evenings at about 7pm - from my windowseat (my living room is upstairs) I can nip out just as the queue is running out, so I don't have to wait in the rain!
