A great holiday in lovely cottage. Everything was clean and comfortable and the owners were on hand if we needed anything - we didn't but others were helped out as we arrived on French bank holiday when shops were closed! Great advice about local area - beaches etc and what time to go to avoid traffic. Pool is fantastic - weather was a little chilly some of the days but didn't matter as there is a cover which can be opened up on warmer days. Games room is a bonus with pool table, darts, table tennis and table football for older children but also 'castle' and toys and outside swings/slide for younger children. All in all a fabulous week and would definitely go back.
An easy two hour drive from St Malo on uncrowded roads in the middle of July seemed unlikely, but we were very pleasantly surprised and made this simple journey down to Lestroue. Marc and his wife greeted us and gave us a good tour of the gite and the facilities.
The pool is clean, covered and well maintained, with secured access so no need to worry about toddlers getting in by accident. There is a games room that provided some indoor entertainment for our two year old (the toys were a bit tired-looking but she didn't seem to mind) and a good sized additional outdoor play area for running about with a football or playing on the swings and slide. We had good weather reaching 32 degrees Celsius, so we mainly used the pool for cooling down but it's a decent size for swimming.
The gite La Peche was clean and had many new furnishings. There were plenty of pots, pans, crockery and cutlery, a dishwasher and a washing machine. Marc had supplied all the dishwasher tablets and washing powder, washing up liquid, some coffee filter papers and generally everything needed to be up and running straight away without having to bring or buy all these little essentials. This was a welcome surprise and not the norm in our experience. Bed linen was provided, but no towels.
Everything in the gite was of a high standard. The only real problem was that the bottom stair gate had a broken fixing and so kept falling off. Another minor niggle was the almost non-existent wi-fi. A PAYG Sim from SFR would probably be the easiest solution for anyone needing access and would be a good way of avoiding the flaky portal screwing up your laptop's configuration (thanks for that, 2isr.fr, I owe you one).
The area is very quiet and there are plenty of country walks from the gite. The nearby rail line is barely audible from the cottage. Vannes is only about 20 minutes drive away and provides plenty of good eating opportunities. The wildlife park at Branfere is worth a visit. The nearest beach is about 30 minutes away and has plenty of space, and some reasonable eateries in the town. The best nearby supermarket is the Carrefour in Theix. It is vastly better than the Intermarche in Sulniac and well worth the extra five minutes it takes to drive there. There is a choice of boulangeries within a few minutes drive of the gite.
Overall, we had a very comfortable stay in a well presented, secluded cottage. Highly recommended
