Jean-Marc was welcoming and helpful during our stay.
The property is well-maintained, well-equipped and clean. It is very good for families with children as it has an indoor games room. The two year-old with us loved going down there and the adults enjoyed the pool table and football table. It would be very useful if the weather were bad. Outside there is table tennis and plenty of space for lawn games. The pool is a very good size with shallow steps at one end for little ones.
The downstairs bathroom (suitable for use by people with disabilities) is useful when a child needs a quick visit. Towels can be rented at a very reasonable rate.
There are two shower rooms and one room upstairs has an en-suite toilet and basin but there is no bath in the property. The only other things that I would have found useful were some hooks and towel rails in the bathrooms as there is nowhere to hang towels and wash bags. There is an extra charge for cleaning the property at the end of the stay - you can clean it yourself if you want to and avoid this charge.
This was a truly delightful holiday. 3 adults and 2 kids under 6. A well appointed, spacious gites with good facilities and comfy beds with a nice, petite, private patio area. Jean Marc was always on hand if we had any questions with a fabulous bottle or two of local cider. The pool is wonderful and the games barn really nice - needs a little updating but I know that the owners have grand plans! It's the perfect place to explore from - the nearby beaches are fabulous and there is a brilliant market in Vannes nearby. We found some brillliant restaurants, and everywhere was very kid friendly. We'll definitely be back.
We found these gites via Google and booked without any recommendation or reviews. Wow, we got lucky!! So, it's our turn to tell you how amazing this place is. There is absolutely nothing we would change, honestly. Jean-Marc and Gaelle were the perfect hosts.
When we arrived, absolutely nothing was too much trouble. We arrived in the evening but they still rushed around organising stuff we hadn't arranged prior to us coming, such as a travel cot (good quality, clean, proper mattress, decent size). We forgot towels, but they immediately brought us some to use.
The actual gite was SPOTLESS - we've never stayed in a place so clean. It is also beautiful and very we'll equipped. I didn't want for anything, it was like a home from home (but with an authentic French feel!). The activities at the gite were plentiful. We have a nearly-8 year old and a 2 year old and there was plenty for both of them. Although the weather was very good while we were there, I was never worried if the rain/storms came in the day as the pool was covered and there was plenty to do in the play room for both kids.
The area itself is spectacular and the best part of Brittany we've ever visited. There's so many places to see and Vannes, Rochefort en Terre and La Roche Bernard are a must. Nantes is also only 1.5 hours away, with an amazing mechanical elephant, which has to be seen to be believed.
We will definitely be returning to Lestroue and think the Hosts are amongst the best we've ever experienced - wonderful people who leave you to your holiday unless you need them. They even offer a babysitting service (via their grown up kids).
There's plenty of watersports activities at La Roche Bernard (30 mins) and at Damgan beach (20 mins drive).
It's 2 hours from St Malo (Brittany Ferries), 5.5 hours from Calais (Euro Tunnel) and 1.5 hours from Nantes airport (Ryanair, if you really hate ferries and driving!)
Don't hesitate to book - I will be very soon!
