Updated: 09-Dec-2016
Holiday Home/Gite in heart of Burgundy, France - Peaceful Location And Beautiful Surroundings

Reglois is a small hamlet in the commune of Alligny-en-Morvan situated in the Morvan Natural Park on a gently sloping hillside that faces south. The air is pure and clear. Altitude is 528 M / 1730 Ft and the nearest city is approximately100 km / 60 miles away. There are panoramic views of the Morvan to the south towards Mont Beauvary. Reglois is surrounded by unspoilt meadows and forest. The early spring produces a crop of cowslips, oxlips and wild daffodils and later hidden in some parts of the forest there are lily of the valley. In the meadows and forest the autumn produces an abundant crop of mushrooms and other edible fungi. The gite (cottage) is situated on the first floor of outbuildings adjoining the owner’s house. There is a large barn between the gîte (cottage) and the house that ensures the privacy of both parties. The balcony overlooks the countryside at the rear of the property.

About the Owner

My wife and I have been married for 18 years and lived and worked in the UK and South Africa. Esmé was born in South Africa and speaks fluent Afrikaans and English; I am from Yorkshire in England

We have had a property in France for the last 8 years but not being able to settle permanently while I was doing contract work, we have finally decided Burgundy (Reglois) is where we would like to find roots and integrate into the French lifestyle and culture.

I am a keen cyclist and golfer, while Esmé is an avid gardener and very people friendly.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We received a warm welcome when we arrived after a long journey. Geoff had prepared a lovely cold meal with other food items that straight away helped us

to relax and enjoy La Vigne. The accommodation was comfortable clean

and had everything you needed. The bed was the best we had ever slept

in during our stays in France. The seating areas compliment the

property and you really do feel totally relaxed. Esme and Geoff are

the most friendly and kind hosts you could wish for. Always on hand to

help with ideas of places to visit and local amenities. The Wi-Fi

access is most useful. We used it to book a tour around the mustard

factory in Beaune. The Morvan is a beautiful area with many towns to

visit and added to this you have the countryside to enjoy. A five star

Quiet and comfortable in the mountains

The home-cooked dinner Esme and Geoff provided was welcomed after driving all day and was delicious. The extra touch reflects how warm and friendly the hosts are.

The kitchen was completely stocked and the cottage was clean and comfortable.

We enjoyed the Autumn colors and hiking around the large Bibracte archeological site.

Geoff had prepared a lovely salad when we arrived, just what was needed after a long journey. The Gite is in a great location and has all the equipment you need for a relaxing holiday. Both Esme and Geoff gave us plenty of ideas about places to visit, they are very good hostes.

A lovely relaxing holiday location. Gite was exactly as described and had everything we needed (and more!). View from balcony was lovely and the hamlet was pleasant to wander around. UK TV channels were a pleasant surprise.

Esme was very helpful when I muddled the original booking. Both Esme and Geoff were very friendly.

Our first gite experience and one we shall repeat.

We have looking all over France for the past few years and have found the most amazing area of France with the most amazing gite to stay in and the hosts are simply fantastic.Esma and Geoff were really fantastic from the minute we arrived ,after a long drive there was a light meal for us which was to die for.the setting of the gite was perfect for us as it gave a real feel for France from the forests to the beautiful lakes at Setton to the romain town of Autun.Dijon and the Burgundy vineyards are with an hours drive and both well worth a visit. We love the area so much we are returning to stay with Esma and Geoff in August to buy a house and enjoy a bit of Burgundy

Gite la Vigne + 2, make perfect memories.

  • 5 of 5

Burgundy is an excellent area of France to visit. Staying in the Gite la Vigne makes it even more special. Esme and Geoff are perfect hosts. The Gite is homely, comfortable and you need for nothing. From arriving, Esme's home cooked meal with accompaniments from Geoff's garden ensures that your treasured holiday memories begin on a high. We have find memories of Burgundy due to being able to spend it at Gite la Vigne and with two very special people. There is so much to see and with Geoff and Esme's helpful advice we were able to see so much. Mick and Lynn Stapley

From the Owner

Esmé and I were house hunting looking for a region to settle in, when we arrived in the Morvan we were absolutely taken by the natural beauty and unspoilt scenery. Being English speaking we had no problem communicating with the locals as they all went out of their way to make us feel at home. The house is situated in a little hamlet with just a few neighbours; closest village is about 3km away.
