Overview

About the property

Holiday Home in St Agnes, Cornwall, England - Village Centre, 15 mins walk to beach

The building itself is old - it was the White Hart over 230 years ago, with parts of the property about twice as old. Behind our small private car park (space for 4 or 5 cars) are buildings which are owned by the National Trust. Also at the rear is a decked barbecue area. At the front is a small terrace, sunny and sheltered, an ideal vantage point for local events such as the Carnival and Victorian Street Fayre, or just sit with a drink and watch the world go by. (There are a further 2 private parking spaces here, between the terrace and the street.)

About Geoff Robinson

My late wife and I bought the Porthvean as a run down small hotel in 1978 and improved, updated and ran the house as a hotel and restaurant for 20 years. In 1998 we decided to quit that hectic life while we were still enjoying it rather than wait until we weren't! We wanted to keep the house that we had worked so hard to make our own and so decided to rent it out to parties of friends and/or family by the week or short break. We built a small extension on the rear so that we would have a self-contained apartment for ourselves and so things have been since then. My first wife sadly died a few years ago but my new wife and I are continuing the arrangement as before.

Geoff Robinson purchased this house in 1978

Why Geoff Robinson chose Truro & Falmouth area

We bought the house because it has a lovely, cosy friendly "feel" to it. Our renovations and alterations over the years have managed to enhance that feeling. St Agnes is a great place to live and visit - a vibrant, friendly living village all year round. Near the sea but not on the beach! It's a great place to be based to see what Cornwall has to offer or just to stay locally and chill out - not difficult here.

What makes this house unique

Because we ran it as a hotel, it's well equipped - plenty of glasses, cutlery, crockery, pots and pans etc for a big party. The local shops have all the provisions you might need and Truro is only a short drive away for the national chain stores or those specialist items. But you don't have to self cater - there's a pub right next door and other pubs and restaurants within a few minutes walk. And you have your own space - all the bedrooms have their own TVs and all but one of the bedrooms are en suite so you don't have to queue down the corridor for the loo or shower! At the end of a busy (or not so busy) day the hot tub and sauna are a great aid to unwinding. Winters are good too - not so many people and that log fire - sit with a drink and relax.
