Accommodation was accurately described and all facilities were in good working order. The bathroom in particular was excellent and very modern and the kitchen was roomy and well equipped. The property was very clean but short on some items like toilet paper and kitchen towel. The owner gave us excellent and very prompt service. We would recommend this property and would consider returning ourselves. We enjoyed 3 of our 4 days with good weather and sampled various walks but didn't use many of the facilities in town.

Great location and nice enough property.

The house is in a great location (just a few steps down to the village).

We had a great week weather wise, except for one day, so did not use the house much, other than for some evening meals.

The overall impression is fine, but the house does need a little TLC, especially for when the weather is inclement.

The 'lounge' needs more comfortable furniture for times you may be 'stuck inside'. We were a family of 5 (adults) and it was rather a squeeze and uncomfortable when we all used the lounge.

The master bedroom (first floor) needs a new mattress.

The occupants of the other bedrooms had no complaints so can only assume all was good.

All in all small niggles, and the house is fine and served its purpose very well.

However, we have stopped in better properties for less money around Ambleside, but perhaps in a less convenient location.

However we also want guests to enjoy the whole experience and we will certainly seriously consider your comments as we continue our ongoing programme of renewal. With regard to the living room - you're right, it is best suited to groups of up to 4 adults or groups of 5 including children. This is why we advertise that capacity on the website page and limit bookings to those numbers. Your booking was for 4 adults so I do understand you may have felt squeezed if you were a party of 5.

Wonderful, clean, spacious house with amazing views, in a convenient location

We enjoyed our stay enormously at 5, High Gale, and if we holiday in Ambleside in the future, we would not hesitate to book this lovely place again.

The house is so convenient for the town centre - we could shop, go to the cinema and eat out, all on foot.

We were also able to do a beautiful, exhilarating circular walk (to Wansfell Pike, then Troutbeck) -starting from the footpath immediately outside the garden gate.

The location, on the Eastern side of the Lakes was nevertheless great for exploring the western part of the Lakes. Ambleside is a good place to stay if you have a group of mixed ages. Our son and daughter aged 20 and 21 were happy to go walking in the more remote, challenging parts of the Lakes, without feeling they had to spend the evening/night in an isolated part of the Lakes.

The house itself was just what we needed: spacious, comfortable and clean, and with wonderful views. Though we were there in the summer, we felt sure it would be an excellent, warm place to stay in winter.

We would thoroughly recommend this house to anyone, other than those with restricted mobility.

The property had great views.

The view were just beautiful, clean and well maintained, however as hikers we had no vehicle so it was a steep walk up to the house and after arriving it meant a long walk down to the local supermarket for extras like toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags as we were staying for 8 days and it would have been nice if there was milk, sugar and tea, I know this was a self catering but I don't think its well suited for guests without a vehicle.

Beautiful Cottage in idyllic surroundings

Christine was a pleasure to deal with during the booking process and on the run up to our stay

The cottage was warm and comfortable and in a gorgeous setting. The three bedrooms were all very cosy and the bathroom was stunning (I was very jealous of the bath!) The kitchen/ diner was very spacious and had everything we needed throughout our stay

The only downsides would be the very narrow streets and only space for one car- we had two as we were travelling from different locations, but we just parked one at the bottom of the hill so it wasn't a problem. There is also quite a steep hill (which is mentioned in the description) from the town centre to the cottage but again, this wasn't too much of a problem but a little bit of a struggle after a few drinks & a large meal!

Overall we were all very happy with our stay ad would highly recommend it for anyone who wants a little getaway in Ambleside

Clean and comfortable house, good central location

This is a lovely clean house in a central location handy for the shops and walks around Ambleside, Christine was very helpful and the Wi-Fi was good for the teenagers. Would recommend, and may visit again.

We feel so lucky to have a house in the heart of the lake district. It is just above the town , in a quiet cul de sac with views of the fells, yet only 3 minutes walk from the centre of town (five minutes to walk back!) and offering private parking. The house is equally suited to families or groups of adults and our family and friends use it as a base for walking, climbing, touring the area or just as a restful retreat. The town amenties include five cinema screens, multiple restaurants and bars, a park with tennis , bowls etc and a spa.

Nearest Barpub : at 75 Metres Nearest Train : at 5 Miles Nearest Restaurant : at 60 Metres Car: not necessary


Less than one mile to lakeside.


Buses 5 minute walk. Train station 5 miles (Windermere) with connections to Manchester and Manchester Airport.


Ambleside 0.2 miles. Windermere town 5 miles. Lake Windermere 0.8 miles. Langdale valley 6 miles.

Further Details:

Town: excellent amenities in Ambleside including shops, restaurants, bars, cinemas, park and spa. Country: superb walking and climbing in the immediate area+ places of interest - Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter homes , country parks.
