About the property

Sleeps 8 + 2 in 4 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms.

Mona House is a 4 bedroom Victorian terraced house sleeping 8+2 in 4 bedrooms. Recently refurbished, it provides the comforts of a modern home whilst still retaining period features. The accommodation is particularly suited to a larger family or a 2 family gathering. It is also suitable for groups of adults, sleeping up to 8 max in separate beds. It is a 3 minute level walk from the town centre, 10 minutes from the lake and within a short walk of the leisure pool, play parks and family cycle track. We have set the house up to be used as we use it - as a base to enjoy The Lakes' outdoors. There is storage space in the house for kit, lots of walking and cycling guides together with things like local weatherproof maps, picnic boxes and flasks etc. We also provide information to help you make decisions on where to go and what to do which saves you valuable time, especially over a weekend. Free wifi. No loud music / partying allowed in the house at any time and sorry no pets. We have not subscribed to online booking by credit card so you do not have to pay the 8-10% 'Service Fee' that Owners Direct have introduced for properties that have done so. Please call me if you would like to discuss this.

About Nigel Ezard

I live in Yorkshire with my wife and 2 young children. I have spent the last 8 years primarily caring for the children and Mona House is the result of one of my several 'projects' which have helped keep me sane during that time! Keswick is a place I have known since childhood - first as a camping destination, later for it's mountain biking and fell walking and now as a great place for family adventures.

Nigel Ezard purchased this house in 2009

Why Nigel Ezard chose Keswick & North Lakes

The house came to our attention primarily because it's sale kept falling though. When we bought it in 2009 it had rising damp, a leaking roof and many other problems which needed attention - which meant we could afford something we'd never dared dream of. Undeterred by the work we bought it and employed a local builder to drag it back to life...and I myself spent many evenings camped out on the building site floor. For us, the main attraction of Keswick is that it's a place where we can access all we'd want to do without having to travel more than 15 minutes (if at all). In the immediate area there's walking, cycling, boating/watersports, a climbing wall, play park, cinema, theatre, swimming pool, shopping, eating and of course endless rounds of crazy golf!

Guestbook comments from the owner

'Returned from a fantastic weekend in Keswick. The house was everything we needed and loads more besides! A lovely house in a great location. We had a relaxing weekend and would love to return. Many thanks from all the *** family.'

'We had a fantastic weekend in Mona House! You truly have a lovely home there and we all hope to return one day! We certainly made good use of the Keswick nightlife - who knew it was so good!'

'We had a great time. The weather was fairly kind after the amount of rain lately. We would recommend staying at your house to anybody that wished to have a break in the lakes.'

Love Keswick, Love Mona House

  • 5 of 5

This is an excellent property, well equipped and centrally located. Within a couple of minutes of the centre of Keswick, the park and river and an easy walk to the theatre and lake.

Additionally the house has games, DVDs and books, if the weather is wet, and it is warm and comfortable for older guests.

Spring in the Lake District is simply beautiful.

Will be returning a third time no doubt.

Home from home - cannot recommend highly enough

  • 5 of 5

I cannot recommend this house highly enough. Spotless when we arrived and furnished to a very high standard. Warm and homely. Bedrooms all a fantastic size - the beds were so comfortable with quality bedding provided, along with fluffy towels. Plenty of room for our party of 7 in all the shared areas, with an extremely well-equipped kitchen (including Denby crockery - wow!)

The children loved the toys, games and dvds that were in the house and we found the maps useful. The owner has really thought of everything, even providing enough coat hanging space for a large group of people.

My sister and I were brought up in Keswick and so remembered that this part of town was really convenient. Mona House is so close to town, you can be at the shops within 5 minutes even with a slow child in tow! Though there is no designated parking, even with two cars we did not struggle to find a space even though it was the Easter holidays.

Finally, the owner Nigel was absolutely brilliant every step of the way, from booking to leaving. If we had any questions at all his response time was unbelievably quick. He sent messages to welcome us and check that everything was ok during our stay. If we go back to Keswick again ( and I'm sure that we will, it's such a beautiful place ) we will definitely stay in Mona House. Really great value for money - nicer than my own home!!

A perfectly positioned, well maintained, warm comfortable home away from home.

  • 5 of 5

This lovely spacious, well equipped comfortable, spotlessly clean house is a real find. The showers were both powerful and efficient and the beds comfortable. The house is perfectly situated as a base for enjoying all The Lakes has to offer.

If you were short of ideas then a handy box of information leaflets and maps are thoughtfully provided, together with information on local eateries. Nigel and his wife have thought of everything. We wanted for nothing. Everything went really smoothly.

We had a great time.

Thank you.

We will most definitely be going again.

Fantastic family get away.

  • 5 of 5

Great property, very open room sizes. Quality finishings throughout. We will be back again. Was just walking distance from the town. Nigel's communications was excellent. I really liked that there was tea and coffee, sugar and bits. Everything had been thought of. 10/10

A great house, in a great location, and a very helpful owner!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 8 nights, and had a great stay. We were a much smaller group than could've been accommodated, but the good value pricing made it a great choice. The house is nicely furnished throughout, and fully stocked up with everything that you need. The location is excellent (a couple of minutes walk from all the shops and restaurants), and the owner was very helpful, through and prompt to respond/ensure that our stay went well. We look forward to returning!

Fantastic Stay at Mona House

  • 5 of 5

Lovely stay at Mona House over New Year week. This is a really lovely house, extremely well equipped, particularly the kitchen which has absolutely everything you could need for self catering accomodation. There are lots of 'extras' such as a DVD collection, Family Games, Books and a wide range of information about walks and the local area. The owner is extremely helpful and can't do enough to ensure you enjoy your stay. The house was spotlessly clean and the rooms are very flexible and could accomodate families, couples or single sex groups. We will definitely be returning, excellent value for money.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

St Bees has an excellent 'Blue Flag' beach around a 45 minute drive away. It's a good place to visit on a longer stay if you get bored of mountains and lakes!

Travel:

By car - Keswick is 20 minutes from the M6 Junction 40 (Penrith) which is the fastest route from north or south. It is 50 minutes from Junction 36 (Kendal).

By rail - The nearest main railway station is Penrith which is 20 minutes drive from Keswick. Penrith is on the west coast mainline and as little as 3 hours from London Euston.

By Bus - Keswick has a bus station linking with major towns - Carlisle, Penrith, Workington etc. Local hopper buses operate to local villages & activities.

Further Details:

Keswick is a small town situated in the north Lakes on Derwentwater and in the shadow of Skiddaw and Blencathra. There are many walks from the front door of the house, both low level and up onto the fells. There is also sailing, canoeing and rowing on the lake and a forest centre with mountain bike trails, ropes course and adventure playground just 10 minutes away. The town is particularly good for younger families with a leisure pool with waves and slide, new play park, level cycle path, bmx pump track, cinema, crazy golf, climbing wall and the lakeshore beaches all within a short walk of Mona House. There’s plenty to do without ever having to leave the immediate area and even without moving the car!
