Farmhouse in Millook, Nr. Widemouth Bay and Bude, North Cornwall, England - Family Holiday Home In An Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty Only 5 Minutes From The Beach

The Mill Farm is a charming large cottage, tucked away in the Millook valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty. It has a private, south-facing and sheltered garden bounded by a small stream and surrounded by 10 acres of fields. A great week - we loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We went to Millook with another family of school friends - the husbands were working so it was mums and boys and we had the most brilliant week.

The cottage is charmingly old fashioned yet with all the mod cons you could want. The two sitting rooms were v helpful if someone wanted some quiet time with a book. The kitchen as a really good size and we all sat together for meals in the dining room. It was great having plenty of bath rooms - no queues and the downstairs laundry room and shower room are perfect for sandy kit or hanging wet suits if you're coming straight from the beach.

We went to Bude and Widemouth and Black Rock often and spent a day at the Launceston country show. We would have gone to Bodmin if we'd stayed longer but there was so much to do. We had the most brilliant afternoon at Tintagel - I'd never been and the boys loved it - stopping at Crackington Haven and Boscastle for refreshments.

After a hectic last few weeks of term this was a heavenly wind down for everyone - it's completely peaceful and sheltered. We loved the small shingle beach down the road at the end of the drive. We meant to take some photos of the rock formation there for school because it's very rare but we didn't manage to squeeze it in - next time!!

There is nothing but good to say and we would love to go again - our one small point in terms of the kitchen is that it would have been nice just to have a few store cupboard basics - salt / pepper / cooking oil / flour so you don't have to bring absolutely everything only to use it once or twice and pack it all up again. But it's a minor point.

Roz is delightful and a wonderful host. Thank you from all of us for a great stay

Charming cottage in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

Wanting to show relatives from abroad this wonderful part of England, we were looking for a picturesque location by the sea, surrounded by beautiful countryside, and a charming Cornish Cottage to accommodate 2 families. Mill Farm was exactly what we were looking for and exceeded our expectations by far.

Mill Farm is situated in the beautiful Millook valley, only a few minutes walk from the beach. The setting is idyllic, far away from the bustle of everyday life. Widemouth Bay and Bude are just down the road and perfect for some shopping, a day on the beach or some surfing. Despite the longer distances to the south (Lizard Point and Lands End were a long drive) we managed to explore the whole of Cornwall (as well as Dartmoor and Exeter), and always looked forward to returning to Mill Farm in the evening. The cottage is also on the coastal path which offers stunning views of the coast and surrounding area. We walked to Bude, which took about 2.5 hours, but it was well worth it.

The house was very clean and tidy on arrival, and we immediately felt at home. It offers a mix of old and new, and we loved the wooden beams, low ceilings and window seats. It is very comfortable, ideal for two families, and equipped with everything one could need on holiday. There´s everything from a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, coffee machine, to board games for the kids, books, body boards for the beach, a BBQ and much more. Three bathrooms and two sitting rooms meant that everyone had their own space and could relax.

I must also mention the wonderful communication and service, without which this wonderful holiday would not have been possible.

Thank you Roz and Helen.

Beautiful character cottage

  • 5 of 5

'Idyllic' is the most appropriate word I can use. The property is a combination of historic, period architecture and sympathetic modernisation, which come together to provide accomodation that meets all the requirements I was looking for.

We instantly felt 'at home', whilst retaining a sense of awe at the beauty of the location, setting and admiration for the owner's sense of style and practicalities. Everything you could possibly need is provided - from both catering and laundry perspectives, plus other considerations that just added to the overall value of our stay - board games, books, barbecue - to name a few. If you add to this, the wonderful communication from the owners - prior to, during and after the stay, plus the services of their excellent housekeeper, you couldn't really ask for better 'customer service'.

I'm happy to recommend Mill Cottage to visitors to this site and I look forward to having the opportunity to visit again, in the future.

Really lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

We found the cottage, gardens and the area of Millook to be truly delightful. The property was well laid out and had a tasteful mix of old and new which worked extremely well plus the bonus of enough room for eight of us to spread out without getting in each others way.

Tea in the lovely garden was a pleasure and both our families enjoyed a barbecue and eating outside.

With the gurgle of the small stream at the bottom of the garden and the breeze rustling through the trees the whole place was idyllic and very peaceful.

We have no hesitation in recommending this cottage and both Roz and Helen are really lovely and fully committed to ensuring your stay is enjoyable.Their customer service is excellent.

Also plenty to do in the surrounding area and you do get used to the narrow lanes. Thank you so much.

The perfect home for all the family

  • 5 of 5

What a delightful place to stay! Mill Farm was everything we hoped for from the description and more. The perfect home for a week away with the whole family. The farmhouse happily accommodated 8 of us which included 3 children. The kitchen was the perfect size with everything you could need to cook for 8 people. The two sitting rooms provided a play room for the children and a calm sitting room for the adults with a beautiful fire. The back door leads into a large cloakroom and boot room which was just what you need with 3 children and muddy boots. The luxury of 3 large bathrooms meant there was never a queue! The children loved the garden with the stream just as i had hoped they would. We spent may a happy hour playing in the garden while Nanny sat in the sunshine with a cup of tea. It was the perfect base to explore Port Issac, Crackington, Tintagel, Boscastle, Launceston, swimming in Bude leisure centre with a wave machine, cycling on the Camel Trail ( starting at Wadebridge to Bodmin or Padstow) and playing on the pebble beach 5 minutes walk from the farmhouse.

On arrival the place was spotlessly clean and well cared for.

Roz, the owner provided the best customer service I have ever experienced. She went out for her way to make sure we were happy.

Thank you Roz and Helen for letting us share your beloved family holiday home. We loved it too! Can't wait for our next holiday at Mill Farm.

Owner's Response: We are always pleased to hear from our guests! We enjoy sharing our family holiday home and work hard to maintain a high standard. It makes everything worthwhile when a busy guest takes the trouble to write a detailed review.

First class, beautifully presented, secluded

  • 5 of 5

The Mill Farm is a beautifully presented holiday home that is superbly appointed inside. Combining the attractions of a traditional rustic farmhouse with all the modern conveniences you could possible require, it is situated in the quietest of spots, surrounded by glorious Cornish costal countryside. From the moment we arrived to find the interior spotlessly clean, we could feel the shackles of daily stress begin to fall away. Spending that first evening, seated on the sun kissed terrace behind the house, enjoying a superb sunset that 'holiday feeling' truly arrived. As keen walkers, the Coast Path being only a few minutes walk away was a great asset and the section between Millook and Boscastle is greatly to be recommended. There are also several good walks inland, including some featuring a Woodland Trust conservation area. At the end of each day's walking, the Mill Farm was the ideal house to return to and spend quiet evenings reflecting on the day's experiences as well as revelling in its many charms. We shall be re-booking for next year and have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who requires a combination of space, great comfort and restful solitude.

Some of the upstairs ceilings are low as are a number of the door frames. Parents of very small children should be aware that the stream bounding the garden is only shallow but it is not fenced. The house is surrounded by 10 acres of its own land, mostly fields, but also a fair amount of gorse! It is a great area for older children to explore and for kite flying etc. Ample parking. Utility Room: Washing machine, tumble drier, iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels provided but please bring your own beach towels and linen for the travel cot if required.
