Fantastic property with lovely outside space

Loved this property, it is a great size both inside and out. We were two families with two children who loved the pool. It was spotless when we arrived and pool cleaned everyday throughout our holiday. Good position for both the beach and town. Fantastic holiday, would definitely recommend.

Brilliant villa in the sun

My wife and I and our two grown up children and their partners have been coming to Villa Diego for about 6 or 7 years. We love it. It has a brilliant location. It's about ten minutes walk respectively from the beach and the town, but yet secluded in a small community. It is on a slightly unprepossessing small road but once inside it is a lovely and very well maintained detached property surrounded by a high garden wall - so completely private and with its own swimming pool and pretty garden with fruit trees. It has a lockable garage for the car and to pack away all the garden furniture. Inside there are three good size bedrooms, two bathrooms, a lovely and very light living area and a kitchen easily big enough to have family meals. So it's perfect for a family of up to 6 people or for up to three couples. Free wifi is available and a TV (mainly Spanish channels) plus a DVD machine so we usually take a good selection of box sets to catch up on. There's also a small library of books. There's a separate room with a washing machine and drier.

The town of Conil is full of great restaurants - there are well over a 100, mostly very reasonably priced, including some outstanding tapas bars. David, the agent of the owner, lives locally and is a fabulous source of advice on restaurants and on what's going on in town. We always check out with him what's new when we first arrive. Places nearby well worth a visit include the 'white town' of Vejer de la Frontera', Cadiz (more great restaurants and shops) and Jerez where you can visit a bodega or take in a dip (and a massage) in the lovely Arabian baths (www.hammamandalusi.com).

We heartily recommend both Conil and especially Villa Diego and always look forward to our annual summer visit.

Outside of town but close enough to walk to beach. Easy to get to without having to go into town. Quiet residential location.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

Ideal place to stay for walkers, mountain-bikers, birders, and anyone looking for a touring base all year round. Seville, Jerez, Cadiz, the oldest city in Europe, the white towns of Vejer, and Arcos, Gibraltar, North Africa are all feasible destinations for a day trip from Conil. Then we have the wonderful area around Conil which includes prehistoric cave paintings, Iberian, Phoenician, Roman, Visigoth and Moorish remains abound, lunar landscapes, crocodile farm and even a Honey Museum!

Coast/Beach:

The beaches in Conil are all gently-shelving and all have fine, golden sand: the "Calas" (Coves) of Cabo Roche. 10 minutes by car, parking available. The Fuente del Gallo beach. 5 minutes by car. The Fontanilla beach. 2 minutes by car. Los Bateles beach. 5 minutes by car. Castilnovo beach. 5 minutes by car then 10 mins walking. This is the wildest of the beaches in Conil. Fantastic! Warning: some areas are nudist. A 10 minute drive takes you to El Palmar beach, ideal for surfing in winter.

Travel:

Nearest airports are Jerez (45 mins by car), Seville (1 1/2 hrs by car) and Gibraltar (1 1/2 hrs by car) with Malaga being a good option only 3 hours drive. Car hire is strongly recommended.

Distances:

The lovely hill-top white village of Vejer de la Frontera is a mere 15 kms away, with Cadiz and Jerez approx 45 mins by car and the lovely city of Seville very accessible just over an hours drive (all motorway). Other places of interest include Caper Trafalgar, the Roman ruins at Bolonia near Tarifa, and Morocco with a fast ferry operating from Tarifa all year round.

Further Details:

It is a delight to wander around the “maze” of small streets and discover the abundance of small shops that are often hidden away in the doorways of small white houses, typical to Conil and other towns of this area. There are several newsagents, gift shops, boutiques, a florist, lots of shoe shops and numerous small stores and supermarkets. Opening times in this area are very flexible. However, supermarkets usually open until 14.00 hours and as late as 22.00 hours during high season with some boutiques staying open until midnight. In high season most shops open on Saturday evening and many supermarkets and small food stores also open on Sunday morning. Daily market: there is a daily market in the mornings, the best place to buy your fresh produce, which is situated in the part of town known as "La Bodega”. There are several fish, fruit and butchers stalls. Friday market: there is a weekly travelling market on Friday morning only. It is fairly large with a wide variety of stalls selling clothes, shoes, and gifts. It is situated in the parking area right on the Los Bateles beach of Conil. Local produce: this area is also an agricultural/fishing zone. Sample the delicious fruit and vegetables and enormous variety of fish and shellfish, many of which are only found along the Cadiz coast. The best place to purchase these is the local market. Fish auction: you may be interested in viewing the local fish auction at the port of Conil. This is approx. 5 kms from the town towards Camping Roche. There are two auctions daily (not Sunday) and you will need to be there about 12.00 Noon or 17.00 hrs (5 pm). There are plenty of restaurants and tapas bars in Conil. Consult the owner on arrival for more details.

Fruit trees include avocado, lemon, Chinese date, loquat. Utility Room: The laundry room is located in a seperate building to the rear of the house and contains the washing machine, iron/ironing board and cleaning equipment. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included with weekly change. Property is cleaned upon departure.
