About the Owner

Retired special needs teacher , love to paint, love the sunshine, food and friendly people. My mother was born in Carovigno and I fell in love with the place after family holidays as a child. I worked hard to renovate the property and guests have really enjoyed their stay. I now spend more time in Italy developing my lovely garden , producing wine, olive oil , jams and limoncello which are for sale. I also enjoy painting the local scenery.

I provide a little welcome pack for all guests of a few essentials which are much appreciated especially for late arrivals.

Late summer in Puglia

  • 5 of 5

Booked a late summer holidayhere. Excellent communication from Louisa who owns this Trullo. She provided plenty of information and knowing our flight arrived later in the evening offered to provide a meal for us - what fantastic customer service, the food was excellent as well.

The trullo is along a lane and secluded enough for privacy but still close enough to the town of Carovigno. The trullo is ideal for 2 people and offers a good base for exploring Puglia - we liked the outside space and the roof terrace was superb for catching the sun and views.

Louisa is a fabulous hostess, although she lives next door, she was unobstrusive and on hand if we needed anything. She is fun and friendly and we enjoyed her company one evening as she shared her knowledge of the area with us. She has a lovely garden and we were able to eat wonderful late season grapes and figs directly from her garden. Added to that the outside dining area for al fresco meals and the peace and quiet, we had a wonderful week in the sunshine. We were her last guests of the year and it was a lovely time to explore outside the scorching summer heat. We particularly liked Ostuni which was very pretty with good restaurants and had a lovely feel to it of an evening. We used the Carovigno rail station as a start point for a journey to Lecce - the highlight of our week. We would definitely recommend using the very efficient rail service to Lecce, it was on time and incredibly good value. Lecce was amazing and highly recommended. You can book on line with Trenitalia and store the tickets electronically to show the guard.

We also would recommend a restaurant called Locanda de Nonna in SanVito di Normandi - this was a brilliant eatery and only 20 minutes away.

We ate in a fair bit and it was easy to shop locally for produce - there are excellent fish shops and butchers in Ostuni with a very well stocked supermarket. There were a few supermarkets in Carovigno but it was better to travel to Ostuni for shopping.

Overall we had a really relaxing week at Bella Terra, the accommodation was clean and as described with no negatives to comment upon. Louisa is a wonderful host and has a really customer focussed approach, nothing was too much trouble and although only next door she was very discreet.

We would recommend Bella Terra to anyone who likes a beautiful trullo in the heart of the countryside but close enough to access the towns and beaches for exploring.

Thanks again Louisa

A perfect stay in a magical place

  • 5 of 5

We were shown around the trullo by the owner Lousia once we arrived and were delighted at how clean and comfortable it was.

Louisa is very helpful indeed and on hand if you need her without ever being intrusive.

The trullo is simply magical set within olive and fig trees that came in really handy when wanting to hide from the sun. Only a short three minute ride in the car and you can indulge in blue seas of Santa Sabina or travel in land and you have a super old local town to stroll around or eat at one of the many restaurants.

This is a base that is within easy reach of some lovely tourist attractions or you can simply take yourself to one of many beaches along the coast. All of which have different things to offer.

A super rest for us in a quiet location which is in easy reach of all.

Thanks for your hospitality Louisa!

Peace and Tranquilty

  • 5 of 5

What a great location, loved the peace and quiet. Great base to tour from or just chill out, some nice local restaurants but all the facilities you need to dine in including the BBQ. The owner Louisa was really helpful with hints and tips about the local area.

Truly Fabulous Stay

  • 5 of 5

Bella Terra was exactly as discribed on the Web site. All the

reviews are lovely and completely accurate. But each of us take home our own memories. We enjoyed the peaceful and private location. Also it is a great base to visit so many beautiful baroque and medieval towns. We recommend a travel book called 'welcome to unspoilt puglia' written by Eric and Lu Van Wesenbeeck. As a break from our travels we found lovely small coves for refreshing swims. Louisa made us very welcome. As mentioned in previous reviews she is very generous with her welcome pack but more importantly sharing her garden fruits and local knowledge. We would absolutely recommend Bella Terra to all that wish to journey through Puglia. To know that at the end of the day you can relaxe in peaceful surroundings is great. Then you have to choose whether to have supper outside on the patios or terrace with the utmost privacy or drive a short distance to Carovigno or Santa Sabina and enjoy the local atmosphere and dine out. All so good. It was a great holiday and a pleasure to meet Louisa. Thank you Chris and Cathy.

Relaxing self catering accommodation

  • 4 of 5

We had a truly relaxing time in the trullo.

Louisa had thought of everything to make the stay memorable. The welcome pack was very generous and the well stocked kitchen made things very easy for self catering.

The garden was magnificent and the available fruits from the trees delicious. We had figs and plums every day.

The only downside was the low ceiling at the top of the stairs leading into the bedroom.....bit of a "pain" for anyone tall !

Car essential to get to the accommodation and for visiting the area.

A perfect place for two

  • 5 of 5

If you wanted the perfect place for two to stay in the heart of Puglia this is it. The villa is very well set up with an open kitchen / lounge area, small toilet and shower, and comfortable bedroom. We spent most mornings and evenings on the terrace under the gazebo - we loved visiting the local markets for produce and cooking for ourselves. The location couldn't get any better. The villa is set in it's own little olive grove, with fruit trees and an above ground pool. It's a few minutes from the seaside (great fish restaurant at the marina) or the local white historic village (great trattorie, pizzerie, and a fab bakery). Further afield we made day trips to Alberbello, Ostuni is a short drive away, and the magical towns of Locorotundo, and Polignano a Mare are very reachable. One day we took a day trip into Lecce which is easy to do from the local train station which is just down the road.

Louisa made us feel very welcome. She is a warm and generous person. We were greeted with bounty from her garden (olives, aubergines, peppers) on many mornings. She is a wealth of information about the area having spent much time here in her youth (she is half English / half Italian). Even though she lives adjacent, she respects your privacy and never intervenes.

The best thing I can say about Villa Bella Terra? We want to go back and we will.

From the Owner

I fell in love with the house, beautiful garden and location. It has fantastic sea views! The house which I have worked hard on to renovate, sits in the middle of an acre of lovely garden with lots of different fruits, olives and a small vineyard. Whilst it is very private and rural , its only 5 minutes drive to the beach and 5 minutes to the town of Carovigno. So the house has the peace of the countryside but is not remote. The rental part of the house is a flat topped trullo (Saraceno). Its a haven from the hustle and bustle of life with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The house is at the top of a private drive and has a security system. The house has everything you need for your stay. There is a 5 mt circular above ground pool in the summer months and convenient outdoor shower.

From the Owner

The trullo is ideal for a couple having one double bedroom. There is also a sofa bed in the living area which would be fine for an adult or 2 children. It has a country cottage feel in a beautiful location. New 5 metre above ground pool to cool off in and get some exercise. newly installed Wifi. Wander around the garden in the mornings and pick figs, plums and grapes and lots of other fruits. The house is on a hill so there is a lovely healthy sea breeze, many houses in the interior of the countryside can be very hot, but Bella Terra has a fresh magical atmosphere. Its very easy to find as its near a very tasteful 4 star hotel called Corte di Fero which has a big sign on the main road to Carovigno. Turn at the sign and the house is down the lane. The hotel is lovely , has a large swimming pool and is only a few minutes walk from my house. The hotel is not visible from the house.
