Grade 2 Listed House With Panoramic Sea View, Slightly Elevated In Peaceful Loc

Overview

Property

Updated: 27-Nov-2016
House in Port Isaac, Cornwall, England - With No Through Traffic, Pub, Beach And Fresh Fish Cellar Nearby

The White House is 500 years old and has a view which has changed little in my lifetime(66yrs!). The house is a favourite for photographers and has featured in films, pop record sleeves and diary covers as well as the car park being used by"Doc Martin"!which is filmed next door. Rather ironic as I was the GP in Port Isaac for the summer of 1974! Many clients sip wine all week on the terrace and barely move! The house was also used as a land marker in the 1st WW for ships and submarines. Port Isaac is a very unspoilt local village with boats that go out catching lobster every day,an excellent renowned fish cellar for fresh fish (only 50yds) away as well as a good local pub(The Red Lion)and some very good fish restaurants.

Downstairs is a pannelled sitting room and dining room as well as a galley kitchen + downstairs toilet-

Upstairs are 3 bedrooms in a row all looking out to sea-1 double and 2 twin bedrooms(with sinks) as well as bathroom with bath, shower and sink.

Guestbook comments from the owner

1: G S...The stunning location and the character and charm of the cottage made this a totally magical stay in Port Isaac. This beautifully kept place was warm and cosy and had everything we could have wished for.

We recommend Boscastle & Padstow as places to visit and Rick Stein's cafe in Padstow is a must for lunch.Bedruthan Steps beach is stunning but you need a head for heights as the steps down are very steep.Trebarweth Strand is easy access and one of the best beaches in Cornwall. For local food the Mote has fantastic food-3 courses about £30.Finally I would like to say that The White house has become part of our lives and hopefully we will have many more trips to this idyllic cottage.

2:P & S(Australia)...Our first visit to Cornwall,Port Isaac and The White House and every minute has been a joy.Only took the car out once-to see Tintagel,Boscastle and places around, the rest of our week spent enjoying Port Isaac. We dined everywhere! wondered the alleys and looked in all the shops for hours. When we were tired we sat in front of the "house" and just enjoyed the view-something money cant buy.

3:

C& J...Stunning views,beautiful house,friendly locals,very enjoyable-the peace and tranquility was much appreciated!.What more can I say-Thank you Dr Hambly.

Great View, superb setting.

  • 4 of 5

It was great and ticked all the boxes for what we expected to get for our week away.

Overall it seemed a bit 'tired', and really did not cater for occupants of three double bedrooms.

There wasn't a toilet upstairs and the bathroom could only satisfy the requirement for an en suite shower room.

OK for a couple, but no more.

However, having found out how much the 'Doc Martin' cottage next door was for the same week, i.e. 3 times the price, you would have to say it wasn't bad value.

Owner's Response: The kitchen is tired and being replaced after Xmas with fitted Bosch kitchen-the rest of the house is eclectic mix as befits a very old house but generally everybody who comes loves it for what it is!(It is almost continuously let!)-if you want a modern place with cinema room etc!,this is not the house for you-the house is all about its location.

Great view but needs ££££ spent on it

  • 3 of 5

Great views in a fantastic location and very atmospheric with good linen but.... We had to hack the weeds to get in and be able to use the front garden without being stung; the house is very damp downstairs and no amount of strong cleaning fluid will mask its smell; better if the cleaners spent more time, er, cleaning a little bit more thoroughly; the 'bathroom' comprises a 4ft bath with trickle of a shower and a sink - the loo is downstairs off the kitchen - and is wholly inadequate for a family at a seaside location. Dr H may be charming but you have a duty to look after these old properties (we know, we have a grade 2 450yr old thatched home but we paid for ours!) and I'm afraid Dr H hasn't invested in this for years. Reduce your asking price and let someone else give it the care and attention and spend the money on it - such a great property deserves better.

Owner's Response: very sorry you did not enjoy The White House-The visitors book(which i had thought of making into a book!) is testament to the wonderful holidays everyone has experienced (often repeated many times)-obviously the house is old,but kept clean by a regular team of cleaners who also provide a very good linen service. The house is heated all year round with no damp. The eclectic interior is part of the charm of the property- The house is in a very unique location built into the cliff and the view makes staying there an experience in heatwave or storm!

A Fabulous First Time Visit to Cornwall

  • 5 of 5

This was our first ever holiday in Cornwall and what a beautiful place to come to. We have always previously gone back to the same place year on year as we knew what to expect but this year we decided to have a change and we were not disappointed.

The White House is a gorgeous property, which is elevated above the village slightly with stunning views overlooking the harbour and the busy village of Port Issac. The house itself was ideal for our family, with a well equiped kitchen, the large lounge and dinning room downstairs, so lots of space for 3 adults, 1 child and 3 dogs!!! Upstairs the bedrooms overlooked the harbour and were of a good size.

During our stay we enjoyed sitting at the front of the house, just watching the world go by. Our daughter particularly enjoyed discovering the garden behind the house, with the steps leading up to the tier above, we have great fun playing hide and seek.

Port Issac itself is a beautiful village with lots of fantastic places to eat, we enjoyed several meals at the Chapel cafe which is just a few doors down from the house.

Thank you Dr Hambly, the house was spotless on arrival with everything clean and tidy,

Fantastic and delightful stay!!

  • 5 of 5

Thankyou Dr Hambly for yet another fantastic week's stay in The White House. We have been staying in The White House for the past five years now and always have a wonderful time! We stay every March for a week and have enjoyed the last two Christmas weeks there too! What we love about The White House is the homely and cosy feel, full of character and charm, always very clean and tidy, very well equipped with all necessities, including a real Christmas tree at Christmas, which is a very nice touch by the owner. All the rooms are forward facing so you can easily enjoy the beautiful views out to sea and across the harbour with a morning cup of coffee and an evening glass of wine like we do. The White House is a lovely and memorable place to stay no matter what time of the year it is. Another big bonus with The White House is the fact that it has car parking available. We are always very sad to leave and can't wait for our next stay at The White House. We are very much looking forward to coming back to The White House for my father's 70th Birthday in January and my 40th Birthday in April next year!

Beautiful Cottage - best views in Port Isaac!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 4th year at The White House, and we always look forward to our stay! The cottage is spacious, and cozy. The front terrace is fabulous - with the best views in the village - we love the cottage so much that on our first two years of staying at the cottage, we never left the village all week long! Even on grey days, the sheltered area on the terrace is excellent, we could still sit under there and enjoy the morning sun during breakfast! The parking area is also a huge bonus, as parking spaces are at a premium in this little village. It is so lovely to go to bed listening to the sea almost below our bedroom window, and wake in the morning and watch the fisherman going off for their days' work all from the view of the bedroom window. Dr Hambly has always been extremely helpful and considerate to us over the years, and we hope to continue enjoying many more holidays at this wonderful house for more years to come.
