About the property

The Old Farmhouse and Orchard Cottage are available for separate or combined rental, as one large house, the latter presenting an ideal venue for large family groups or friends that wish to holiday together.

The properties sit side by side and are located in 30 acres of tranquil Devon countryside with an old apple orchard, meadows, stream and natural woods for guests to explore and enjoy. Nestled in the valley a short walk from the properties there is a lake, complete with grass carp, small islands and a decking area. In spring, the orchard is filled with daffodils and bluebells carpet the woods, this is followed by a stunning display from the azaleas and rhododendrons whilst during the summer the apple trees are covered in blossom. Once a working farm, activities are now limited to making hay and maintaining the land, but cows and sheep often graze in neighbouring fields. The valley is home to plenty of wildlife including pheasants, ducks, moorhens, herons, rabbits, badgers, birds of prey, bats, swallows and the occasional deer and kingfishers.

For more privacy each property has its own private patio area for relaxing and bbq's.

The location provides an ideal base for your holiday being in close proximity to sandy beaches such as Bantham and Thurlestone together with sailing at Salcombe and Dartmouth. For walkers there are many local walks as well as the National Trust coastal footpaths that stretch around the dramatic South Hams coastline and nearby is Dartmoor National Park. The nearest golf courses can be found at Thurlestone, Bigbury and Dartmouth.

Absolutely gorgeous it now!

  • 5 of 5

We visited this cottage as a group of two families with 4 children ranging from 5 to 13 and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect stay...despite the typical Easter hols British weather! The cottage itself is very spacious so it didn’t feel like there were 8 of us and the gardens are fantastic! The views from the windows in the morning were breathtaking and it was only a short car ride to places such as Salcombe and the many other places to visit in the area. We would highly recommend any family/families to stay here if you fancy visiting this beautiful part of Devon and we will definitely be back. Jane was a fabulous hostess who welcomed us and explained everything and was then available for any queries we had. We’re missing being there already! Thank you for a great week Jane.

Heaven in Devon

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four have just returned from a wonderful, relaxing holiday staying in the spacious, yet warm Orchard cottage. It was very comfortable, with welcome goodies on our arrival ( wine for us adults, biscuits for the children! ) and nothing too much trouble for Jane, the owner. The house is situated in the most perfect spot. There are 30acres of grounds and gardens for the children and dog to run around ( the stream and rugby conversion post being a big hit! ) plus it is a couple of easy walking miles from two lovely cafes and the quirky Oyster Shack.

I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a peaceful holiday in a beautiful part of Devon.

Lovely accommodation, especially suited our grandchildren who loved the space outside. The lounge was spacious and very comfortable. Great bunk bed room for four kids.

Perfect Christmas

  • 5 of 5

From booking to leaving the owners were super accommodating. We wanted our Christmas holiday to start on a Wednesday and they were the only owners to have the forsight to recognise that with Christmas being on a Friday the normal Friday changeover wouldn't make sense and they happily took our booking.

A couple of days before we got there the owners called to ask if we would like the Christmas tree fully decorated or would the children enjoy this, of course the children loved arriving to do this fun job. You really can't put a price on this attention to detail in customer care!

The house itself was spacious but unintimidating, so we could really relax and enjoy ourselves without a worry in the world. The 4 kids played endlessly in the beautiful grounds building dens and on rainy we enjoyed games around the log burner. The kitchen had all the necessary utensils to cook a proper Chrimbo feast.

For people that want a proper countryside encounter where life is simple and undisturbed, kids can get muddy and run around freely this is the place for you. Probably one of my most enjoyable Christmas's ever and we were in such raptures bragging to everyone about our perfect Christmas upon our return that another friend swiftly booked for Easter! Well done Yabbacombe 10 out of 10 from 2 very satisfied families!!!

Highly recommended

  • 5 of 5

My family (4 adults and 1 teenager) and I thoroughly enjoyed our week stay in Orchard Cottage. It was exactly as described although bigger inside than we expected. The property was very well laid out with plenty of room to spread out. We enjoyed the garden and surrounding land, particularly walking to the trout lake and over the bridge to the island. The cottage is idyllically situated in the middle of nowhere, a real hidden gem, perfect for 'getting away from it all' but also a great base for the many things to see and do in the area. The cottage is a well equipped home from home and the owners Bob and Jane are very friendly & helpful. We would definitely recommend this property
