About the property

Holiday Home in Lower Fishguard, Pembrokeshire, Wales - Stunning Harbour Location, Attractive Fishing Village With Crabbing, Sailing / Kayaking On Quay

Bears Cave is the oldest cottage on the quay of this attractive fishing village. Grade 2 listed, it was used as the pub in "Under Milkwood" starring Richard Burton. Original features have been retained while still providing a high degree of comfort. There is a terraced garden at the back of the cottage for peace and quiet, and crab fishing on the quay. Many beaches, golf courses and a good variety of family attractions are within easy reach. The scenic Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is a ten minute walk from the cottage with its spectacular views, wild life and places of historic interest. Fishguard has good restaurants and pubs to cater for all tastes. We do Friday to Friday lets.

Back Again

Our last stay in the Bears Cave was 20 years ago and it has not lost any of it's charm. The improvements to kitchen and bathroom were most welcome but the welcoming feel of the property remains intact. We spent a lot of time just watching the tide come and go on the convenient bench on the quayside but there is much more to do and see.

Good to see that "The Ship" is going strong. Not impressed by the "new" fish and chip shop in upper town. In Newport the "Golden Lion" busy as ever but excellent food.

A lovely place to stay and a great base for exploring this beautiful part of Wales. Thoroughly recommended.

Great location in local harbour

  • 4 of 5

Bears cave is a great location.quiet enough to get away from everything but with the harbour there is plenty of crabbing for children and this will occupy them all day and then you have to bring them home when the light has gone.

bears cave is well equipped with a good kitchen and bathroom.

The ladder stairs need to be undertaken carefully...and two bedrooms leading off the main bedroom was a little awkward.

We did not use the garden...who needs that when you have the harbour outside the front door. Great to have a bench on the Quayside right in front of the cottage...Our very own breakfast /lunch spot.

I would recommend in fishguard the thursday market and the smaller farmers market on Saturday

Overall a lovely cottage and great location

I stayed in Bears cave 30 years ago and we had a wonderful holiday. My daughter was 15 and my son 12. They had fun with a dingy in the harbour and we relaxed sitting out side the front door. It is still remembered with affection by all of us. A few years ago I found a watercolour painting for sale in a coffee shop/gallery in Stafford and bought it for a birthday present for my son who was thrilled. I remember that it was painted Pink when we stayed there and I have seen a photo of it painted yellow. Wonderful memories.

Bears Cave

  • 5 of 5

For what appeared to be a tiny cottage, Bears Cave was very spacious and very cosy. It was very well equipped and comfortably furnished. As the youngest in our party was under three we were a little anxious about the ladder staircase but this caused no problems at all. She quickly learnt to use them safely. We loved the location and it was great to be able to take a cup of coffee and go and sit on the quayside. We loved the barn door too. We had a fabulous holiday and very much hope to return there sometime.
