Converted Barn and Hayloft in Harrogate, Yorkshire, England - Rural Idyll, Yet Close To The Victorian Spa Town Of Harrogate

The Barn & Hayloft (****Tourist Board rating) are part of a lovely Georgian farmstead set in lush arable countryside. Situated just one mile from the picture postcard village of Bishop Monkton which boasts a babbling brook housing ducks and their baby ducklings and 2 country Inns. There are 15 acres of paddocks and fields to enjoy as well as a large wildlife pond with Indian runner ducks and moorhens as well as sometimes a heron. Yet not far from this haven of calm, are the beautiful and sophisticated town of Harrogate and the medieval cathedral city of Ripon. Bike rides are popular and the farm is on a designated bike route. There are rabbits and wild deer to see as well as pet donkeys and hens. Something for everyone young and old.

About Angela Beck

I am Angela and own Pottery Lane farm with David my Husband, a doctor in Leeds. We live in the main farm house with our dog, ducks, hens and donkeys. We both work locally and the guests have the free run of the grounds most of the day if they wish. We have 5 grown up children who come sometimes to visit.

Angela Beck purchased this barn in 2011

Why Angela Beck chose North Yorkshire

We wanted to move to the counrty once our 5 children had left home.We fell in love with Pottery Lane farm which is peaceful and rural yet still close to harrogate and all it has to offer. The best of both worlds.

What makes this barn unique

The farm is set back from the lane and is peaceful and secluded. The duck pond and ducks are relaxing and funny to watch.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The Barn was everything and more. Thanks to the weather we ate out in the lovely private garden most evenings and the children loved the antics of the animals.

Thanks for a truly relaxing holiday.

Alex, Carol and the kids.

A Great Time

  • 5 of 5

We have returned from a super stay at the Barn, we all enjoyed ourselves very much.

For the younger ones the donkeys were a great hit.

A most relaxing place to stay in the countryside but near enough to Ripon for those essentials.

We took the opportunity to cycle, walk and visit the Dales enjoying the Wensleydale

Creamery and Hardraw Force waterfall.

A great time had by all and we would strongly recommend the Barn as a lovely place to stay.

Delightful location, building and owner.

  • 5 of 5

My family had I had a wonderful stay at "the Barn". The building had enough space for five and appliances that made cooking meals very easy on the nights when we didn't want to dine out. The Barn was clean and well maintained and the location was a dream with friendly chickens and donkeys to delight my children. It was extremely easy to get places of interest when we wanted to but loved the fact that we could escape to the peace and quiet of farm whenever we desired. I would highly recommend this property.

Beautiful property in a quiet and tranquill part of the countryside.

  • 5 of 5

We had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. The Barn is lovely inside and out and has everything you will need for a great holiday base. my 13 year old daughter had a great time feeding the donkeys with carrots each day and feeding grain to the solitary chicken which loved to follow us around. She is very friendly and even got inside the car with my husband on one occasion much to our delight. Angela and her husband are very friendly and approachable and while we were there added 2 more chickens to the menagerie and a field full of sheep and lambs. If you want a relaxing stay in an idyllic location then do not hesitate to book this property. We had my elderly disabled parents with us and it was ideal for them to get about.

Well equipped and comfortable

Lovely setting lots of nice walks nearby, had a lovely weekend break at the barn. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet the owners however a cake was left for us upon arrival with milk to make a cup of tea, nice touch.

Would recommend the barn again.

A brilliant base to explore all of North Yorkshire

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay on Pottery Lane Farm, the first time being in the Hayloft.

The Barn was ideally suited for our family of 4 and we were greeted by Angela on the first day to help us settle in.

Our two boys loved the pond with the ducks and the chickens, also the donkeys in the fields who always came over to say hello!

You have your own courtyard with an outdoor table and chairs, perfect for alfresco dining. I couldn't see a BBQ but we had bought our own.

The barn itself has all the facilities you would need, two bathrooms, a massive fridge freezer, tv and dvd player. There is also a shared laundry room next door. The wifi was very intermittent, but that's no bad thing having a break from the internet too :)

Located pretty much in the middle of North Yorkshire we were able to explore the Dales and the Moors in the weeks stay we had there- easily accessible to nearby Ripon and Harrogate, we had such a lovely relaxing holiday.

We will definitely enjoy a return visit.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for this. I am continually upgrading and improving both the cottages. I hope to have more farm animals next spring including some piglets and pygmy goats for the guests to enjoy. Angela

great property, great location.

The barn is in a brilliant location, in idyllic countryside and yet only a few miles from the A1. Within a few miles in all directions you can visit some outstanding places of interest and be walking in wild places of breathtaking natural beauty.

The barn itself is tucked away near a small village and was everything we hoped it would be. We were a party of 2 couples in our 60's and so the 2 double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms worked well for us. The barn has everything you need for an enjoyable stay. We ate out and in and apart from the cooker extractor which was waiting to be fixed everything was to hand. However it could do with a pointer to the light switch to the kitchen area which was a little hard to find. It's down by the right hand side of the fridge! We used the table quite a lot and found there really wasn't quite enough room in that area. Maybe a rethink on shape , size or location would be good. But these were all minor things and in no way affected our enjoyment of the place. It is clean, light and airy and the outlook from the living area of the paddocks with the donkeys and the wonderful skies was really special. The Indian runner ducks and chickens were great fun too. Even at the end of September, the barn garden was a great place to sit and relax and soak up the atmosphere of the place.

Angela, the owner who lives in the nearby farmhouse, was really helpful and friendly but kindly kept in the background so that we always felt that we had the place completely to ourselves. Much appreciated.

We visited Newby Hall, Fountains Abbey, RHS Harlow Carr gardens near Harrogate, Ripon, Pateley Bridge and great swathes of the glorious Yorkshire countryside and loved every minute.

The staff at the Masons Arms in Bishop Monkton were very friendly and provided really good, reasonably priced food without a booking.

I can imagine that the barn would be a great place to stay at anytime of year and we wouldn't hesitate to book again or recommend it.
