Perfect and really cosy

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect in every way. It was close to all the amenities of Kirkcudbright and lots to do within a short driving distance. We only stayed for 2 nights, which is a very hard ask, but Steph was really accommodating and I can't thank her enough. The cottage was immaculate and very well equipped. Think my husband and I will definitely go again.

This place could be improved with some simple, relatively inexpensive actions

  • 3 of 5

When we arrived we weren't able to get the boiler to work. The cleaner and her husband came round to see if they could get it working and also offered us an oil heater (and a shower at their house). There was a fan heater and the plumber arrived at 9 am the next morning to fix it. This situation was dealt with well.

However, there are several things that would make this accomodation better. A set of written instructions for working heating / hot water, buy some oven gloves, provide tea towel in kitchen, put up curtains in the bedroom (only has net curtains which to do not keep sunlight out), replace the bed linen (very worn).

The most dismal, depressing, unwelcoming, pokey and damp smelling cottage we have rented

  • 1 of 5

No "welcome pack" on arrival advising how to work the heating or any other service ;3 light bulbs out/missing in kitchen, bulb out in bedroom; no sink bowl or rugs in the living area apart from old 24"X15" worn mat; straight on to quarry tiles: waste water pipe discharging over external footpath into open drain; ever present damp smell; "advised" parking area now a builders rubbish tip; some settee springs "gone"; cupboards a mess;no bedroom curtain only nets; only one bedside lamp working; very badly stained duvet and pillows which are past their best; bobbly cheap sheets;the cleaner called to placate us following our first night telephone report to Owners; she couldn't hep but agree that our negative observations were valid (and returned later with towels to help) and bulbs a couple of days later; second attic bedroom was locked off to us; apparently access ladder leads down into the bathroom next to the toilet! The cottage is maintained at best on the cheap and not presently suitable for renting for payment despite the published details basically correct they don't reflect the dismal reality of being stuck in a time warp of worn cheap fittings and equipment; even the toaster is too small to take a full slice of bread; cupboard shelves covered in newspaper and half a toilet roll looks cheap!we tried and stayed but eventually just didn't want to return in the evening and left a day early.

Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful little cottage! It was immaculate when we arrived and we were really surprised at what fabulous value for money it offered.

The furnishing was all super clean, neat and tidy and very cosy... the bed was incredible! The heating was mega efficient... only had to turn it on for 10 minutes and the whole place was toasty!

It's in a great location for all the shops/cafes etc. and Kirkcudbright itself is great for getting out and about... the beach is only 10 minutes away, as are lots of other lovely places to visit.

Steph was amazingly accommodating ... we were very last minute and had a number of date changes which were all accommodated with no drama.

I will definitely be booking it again.... and again... and again!!

Thanks Steph!

Kirkcudbright Cottage

  • 4 of 5

A lovely compact cottage finished to a high standard. The location is great for an easy walk into town and local eateries / shops. The bed was very comfortable, our teenage son enjoyed sleeping in the loft and it was spotlessly clean. Not a lot of room for young children but great for us to use as a base for touring and mountain biking in the area. (The 7 Staines all within easy reach).
