About the Owner

I have lived in France for five years and have since enjoyed the beautiful tranquil surroundings of central Brittany. I have been pleasantly surprised by the outstanding natural beauty which encompasses a rich and interesting history and diversity of activities which have enhanced my love of nature.

A beautiful forested area and the exquisite local cuisine and produce have encouraged my desire for self sufficiency. I aim too provide a clean, homely, comfortable base for people who are looking for the perfect French retreat.

We are within short motoring distance of beaches, fishing facilities (both sea and fresh-water), walking and cycling which is all accessible for my well kept home. There are also plenty of opportunities to pursue musical and artistic interests.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We would highly recommend this holiday for anyone looking for a calm and relaxing stay. The beds were beautifully made and comfortable as was the whole cottage. We felt really refreshed after our stay and would love to visit again. One of the best turned out gites we have stayed in and a great host!

Quiet location but not overly welcoming

  • 3 of 5

Once we found it, this was a very quiet location and we generally enjoyed our stay in the gite, though had trouble with the wifi but otherwise a clean and comfortable cottage. Sadly the owner didn't really seem to be very welcoming which seemed out of character with the whole place - hope we didn't upset her??!

Wonderfully peaceful family retreat

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 weeks at this lovely cottage this summer as a family of 3. The cottage was perfect - clean and neat with every possible item you might need and a few extra (like the grand piano!). The location was blissfully quiet. The garden was beautiful and there was a barbecue and plenty of chairs and tables to sit outside. Walking, cycling, beach visiting, visiting historical and cultural sites, swimming in Carhaix and pottering round the patisseries and creperies of Huelgoat kept us pleasantly busy but you could do nothing and still have a lovely time. The owner was kind and helpful. We would all highly recommend staying here!

Had a lovely long weekend stay here in this charming well-equpped cottage. We had wonderful weather enabling us to BBQ in the pretty garden. There is plenty to do in the area with lovely walks. The hosts was very discrete but available if needed. Lovely restaurants nearby

From the Owner

After traveling around different regions of France I decided on Brittany. For me Brittany struck as being the perfect mix of village life but in a beautiful rural setting. With the availability of easy access to shops from a house which is located within such stunning landscapes I felt that moving to Brittany was an opportunity I could not let pass me by.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

Baby grand piano available for musician's practice. Beautifully set for painters and artists. Great for walkers and cyclists. Freshwater fishing near by. Ideal for bird watching or stargazing.

Amazing beaches are within a short drive motoring distance in each direction from the property.

The nearest village is the French market town of Huelgoat, which holds a weekly market. It also has a wonderful restaurant that looks over the lake and serves good French food. There are also local bars with outdoor patios to sit out and enjoy the weather in the summer. Carhaix is the next closest larger town where a music festival is held once a year.

Further Details:

The cottage is convenient for local shops, restaurants, bars and cafes in nearby Huelgoat, Carhaix and other local towns and villages. Huelgoat is famed for it's Enchanted forest, unusual geological formations and awe-inspiring scenery. There is a market on Thursdays selling local produce, and the Miellerie is well worth visiting to sample their wide selection of local honey. The lake has facilities for sailing and other watersports and there is trout and course fishing nearby. Carhaix is a vibrant town, and is great for shopping and eating out. It has a 9 hole golf course (there are a number of other golf courses nearby as well), and is also popular for watersports, fishing, horse riding and other activities. Finistere has a very rich history and culture; there are a number of art galleries and there is plenty of traditional French architecture.

Experience the natural beauty of the Monts d’Arrée national park; the areas boasts some brilliant walks, idyllic picnic spots and is very popular with cyclists (Carhaix was the start of the 5th stage of the 2011 Tour de France). The cottage is also ideally located to reach the famously unspoiled, sandy beaches around Brittany, and is a great base to explore the area.

From the Owner

One of the nicest things for me living in Brittany is the variety of activities, from country walks to a trip to the market and eating fresh paella from a traditional French market stall. All of this was available to me and combined the French tradition whilst still letting me be near a good English community.
